  7. I would recommend the games in release order. You can go in chronological order if you want, but even in the modern setting games they work with the backstory quite a bit and the prequels expect you to know a lot of those plot details. Metal Gear 1 and 2 are interesting games but they probably aren't very playable by today's standard. Nor is the story particularly important. They adequately explain everything in the other games. Main thing you need to know: Big Boss was a big baddie and double crossed you, Solid Snake, hoping to build his ultimate mercenary empire, outer heaven. He manufactured conflicts, recruited child soldiers, the works. At the end of MG2 you melt his face with a lighter and aerosol spray. Metal Gear Solid is practically a 3D remake of MG2 but with a new story and a ton of cinematic flair. The gameplay and controls are almost identical, interestingly enough, as are many of the encounters and boss fights. I guess that means the controls are pretty awkward for a PS1 game. It was an extremely groundbreaking game that laid a path for cinematic storytelling that many followed. But maybe not super great to actually play unless you're very patient. Twin Snakes is also an acceptable version to play if you want to go that route. Metal Gear Solid 2 is probably the first "playable" MG game by modern standards, although it also has a really weird control scheme. Still, it's very good. It's absolutely absurd in many ways and is possibly the weirdest MGS game, but that works to its benefit. I found it to be a highly entertaining and thrilling title from start to finish, although I did first play it over a decade ago. MGS3 is my favorite in the series, telling story full of memorable characters, thrilling plot twists, and even some touching moments. All without ever taking itself too seriously (one of the bosses is a man who can control bees. He makes a gun out of bees that shoot bee bullets). Also I really enjoyed its brand of stealth. MGS4 I never actually played since I never had a PS3, but I did watch an LP of it. It actually controlled halfway decently and had a ton of options for guns and that kind of thing, while still staying true to the stealth gameplay. It seemed solid, but the story also kind of got up its own ass. The plotlines of the MGS series are inherently absurd, that's part of the fun. They've always been a little self aware, but only a little. It was a fine balance that allowed it to tell some incredibly bizarre but entertaining tales with a straight face. But MGS4 kind of messed that balance up. It's still good, but like I said, it just felt like it was a little too up its own ass. Also a lot of very, VERY long cutscenes. Peace Walker brought itself back to a much more gameplay focused experience. There was still a bit of a crazy plot with some really entertaining moments, but there was also a whole lot of side missions, a base management system was added where you recruit and manage soldiers, and a lot of other neat gameplay features. It was cool and good. MGS5 I'm still playing, but I like it a lot. It's very different from most other MGS games. It's reasonably similar to Peace Walker with the mission structure and side missions and research and base management and all that, but there are also a lot of differences. It's very much a gameplay focused experience. The story is sporadic but at least it's still delightfully bizarre and full of twists. The protagonist is a lot less chatty than usual, which feels a bit weird at first but it kind of fits what the character has become. The gameplay is fantastic, though. I really love it. For the first time, an MGS game controls and plays really, really well. And all of the gameplay systems are very polished and work like you would expect. The disparate mechanics like base building, research, and the gameplay in the field all fit together surprisingly well. It's a pretty great experience so far. So yeah, that's my take on the MGS series. I'm glad you're giving it a shot, Zeno, and I hope you stick with it. It's very much a worthwhile endeavor. If you do, after you finish MGS3, I suggest watching a LP of MGS4, I guess it may not be absolutely plot critical since nothing but Revengeance takes palce after that (and Revengeance isn't really relevant, although it's very entertaining and worth playing as well), but it's good to know a lot of the backstory they delve into in order to flesh out the events of MGS5. Suggested LP: edit: wow that was a long post. I have a lot of things to say about metal gear solid, apparently.

  8. https://twitter.com/DragonsDogma/status/641266456131317760 Well met, Arisens! Here, have some awesome news: As of January 2016, the epic fantasy action-RPG Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be available on Windows PC for $29.99 / € 29.99 / £ 23.99, with full Steam platform support. Huzzah! In case you missed it on console, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is an awesome, inspired, sprawling fantasy game set in an open world, where players create their own unique character and supporting, AI-controlled characters known as Pawns, which can be “rented” and shared online by other players. Battle giant mythical beasts, master a variety of distinct vocations, and explore atmospheric dungeons to uncover endless items and loot. The PC version will feature stunningly high-res graphics and improved fidelity, as well as support for both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, as well as a traditional keyboard and mouse control scheme. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Just in case anyone here has missed out on Dragon's Dogma: It's fucking great. Dragon's Dogma is a weird hybrid between Skyrim, Dark Souls and Monster Hunter, with a touch of Shadow of the Colossus. It was without a doubt my Game of the Year 2012 and the Addon Dark Arisen fixed a ton of issues I had in terms of balance and content. The NPC animations and dialogues weren't best though and I really hope capcom gives us the eternal ferrystone. Otherwise, you'll have to pay ingame currency to fast travel.

  9. Commissioner Mephisto lifted the sheet, glanced at the cooling corpse underneath, and then grimaced. It was just as the officer on the scene had said, and it meant a lot of paperwork and a lot of overtime for his detectives... A mysterious cloaked stranger quietly treads the soaked streets as the sound of water drizzles overhead. Rain blankets the neon-lit city with colors of cerulean and ash. The sound of footsteps, barely audible in the distance, slowly slosh through the thick puddles littering the ground. In mere moments, the footsteps speak. "Do you understand your instructions?" asked the patron. As per usual, names had not been exchanged. "Of course," responded the informant. "This should not prove terribly difficult. "Nothing must lead back to me." "How could it?" the informant contended. "Even if I were caught - and I won't be - I don't know who you are." "What name will you use?" "Today I shall be...Blue Cross." Welcome to New Fuwa! The world has changed, but crime has not. Welcome to a complete revamp of the murder mystery game here on the forums of Fuwanovel! 10. Sheesh, here's my entry. You see the tilted text and images to the right? I nearly had to sell my arm in order to tilt that stuff! It was ridiculous! Anyway, I don't think this is an acceptable entry, given all of de Killer's conditions to work, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.

  11. I didn't get Ritsuko, she got me. The complete opposite happened to me. The only translated VNs that I haven't read, are very heavy on story and probably well written. My problem: I'm totally not in the mood for that. Leaving me utterly bored and frustrated, because I have NOTHING ELSE TO DO ALL DAY.

still comyu, still heroine 1 route, and all i have to say is that this vn has either the best or the awkwardest h scenes ever, i mean this guy has to be the most playboy protagonist out there, also benios first one was the best thing ever, that one moment where she goes like "bitch get the fuck of me" and punches him was amazing still i would have like to see a yoruko route, i think she is kind of adorable

  30. I recently went through the main Muv Luv games (Extra, Unlimited, Alternative) back-to-back, so I'll give you the low down on this whole deal. How much you read before Alternative is largely up to you and your preferences. To start with, the first two games of the series, Extra and Unlimited, are packaged together. In order to get access to Unlimited you must clear the Meiya and Sumika routes in Extra. There are three other routes in Extra, and honestly, even though I like Iinchou and Ayamine a lot as characters, the story they decide to tell is largely something I didn't want to see. From a storyline standpoint I actually liked Tama's route, even though the thought of doing an H scene with her makes me throw up a bit in my mouth. I would still suggest you play every route in Extra. Why? The characters introduced in these routes will show up in Alternative, and their appearance and roles will make far more sense. I also loved the "bad" end with Marimo, which I thought was awesome and wouldn't call a bad end at all. It answers a nagging question I had throughout the VN as well. While we're talking about the world of Muv Luv Extra, this happens in the same world as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. There are several tie ins with KimiNozo. As it is only in the beginning of being translated, and is one of the longest VNs of all time, it's probably not an option if your kanji isn't at JLPT level 1. I would say watching the TV series is absolutely necessary. You should actually watch it before playing Extra as one of the characters from Kiminozo has a good amount of screen time. Watch Second Season is you want, and watch Akane Maniax after you play Extra for a chance to see some Muv Luv characters in anime. AyuMayu Theater will make far more sense after you play Alternative, so wait on that one. Unlimited is a different story. All of the routes are the same and the choices you make have almost no impact on the story. Instead of event A happening with character A, you could manipulate it into being character B with enough of the right choices, but the differences are minor. There is no reason to play the game more than once unless you want to see the H scene of another character. The endings are all EXACTLY the fucking same, to the point that it doesn't feel true to the characters. It's done to plant seeds for Alternative and it makes sense now in retrospect, but it drags on a LOT when playing for 100% and felt like a big fuck you from the writer to the fanbase IMO. I'd suggest making choices that seem like they will maximize time with your favorite character and to play Alternative before going through the game again. Clearing it to 100% after the first character was brutal. Alternative is extremely linear. The choices you make have only a minor impact on the story, and after going back through it to see what would happen with all of the opposite choices, there's basically no difference. The game gives you a big middle finger by having zero benefits after clearing the game. No soundtracks. No CG gallery. Nothing. It's like "Oh, you just forked over 60 hours of your life and thought that would let you listen to the game's music? Well fuck you." There are only 2 H scenes in the whole game, and they're both with a character I wouldn't even want to bang in real life. Now that I've said all of the bad parts about it, on the whole it's really great. Just about everything I didn't like in Extra and Unlimited tied into the story and paid off in a way that made sense. The effects that they pull off are visually stunning. While the others would have points where the story was interesting and would then drag, this went more than 10 hours before it even came close to slowing down once. The more you pay attention to little details in the prior games the more you are rewarded in Alternative. Alternative doesn't expect you to remember every hint about the way things might go and reminds you of lines here and there when foreshadowing is paid off. As you go farther into Alternative you'll be glad you at least watched KimiNozo as a lot of characters from Kimizono appear, and are true to the characters you've come to know. There aren't a lot of areas that are light-hearted in this one, but it will grab you by the balls and not let go for hours at a time. The ending is certainly divisive, you'll probably love or hate it, but the ending of the ending gave me huge blue balls for Altered Fable. I can't wait to play it. For other Muv Luv games that are translated, Haruko Maniax could be played anywhere as long as you don't play it first. It's...kinda weird and kinda gross when you consider where the H scenes come from. Shows you a softer family side of Haruko if you want to see it, but nothing lost if you don't. Chronicles vol.1 is also translated and should be played after Alternative. It's all new characters though and further expands the world after Alternative ends.

  34. Oh, I see. VNDB's regular listing habits led me to believe otherwise. I would think that a game listed as two distinct entities on Steam would be likewise represented on VNDB. With this new information in mind, we can shift the discussion of this topic to hats. Did you know that the size of some hats is typically represented in gallons? Indeed, we're referring to the amount of liquid they can store. Here's an example of a 10-gallon hat:

  37. There's a wide range of neat possibilities one could do in such case, considering you'd become a self-conscious, standard ghost. Tease women, peep on gals, flip their skirts, touch boobies or go full pervert mode. Visit places, you'd otherwise wouldn't be allowed to enter Check on your friends and family and see how are they doing. Haunt places for fun, scare people off. Posess people or animals to do good/bad deeds. Use your ghastly powers to help others, or avenge past grievances. Look for other ghosts and try to get in touch with them. Find a cute ghost girl, get together and live hapilly ever after for the rest of eternity (?) The possibilities are nearly endless ̄ー ̄
