So, I saw that thread about cliche stories, so I kinda came up with an idea. If you were a visual novel writer and was asked to write a rather radical plot that has never been written before, what would it be? Here's my list: - A galge about a Christian man going to Saudi Arabia to date and possibly marry an Arab woman. Has a harem route obviously. - A nakige visual novel about a Jewish female survivor during World War 2 who falls in love with a German soldier. - A moege where you get to date these 5 diverse women: A Chinese loli girl, a busty brunette onee-san with a sexy Spanish accent, an English speaking ojou-sama, a Russian tsundere, and an athletic African girl. - An otome game where you play as an S&M club queen and you get to punish I mean go out with different masochist men. - A visual novel where you play as a puppy and seduce other bitches (literally). Beware: Furries? - A visual novel with gameplay elements where you play as a delivery man/mail man/Fed Ex guy and try to sleep with as many women as you can. So what silly and stupid radical plots did you guys come up with? Oh and if any vn fits the ideas above already, feel free to share them because I don't know any who fit in these categories/plots yet.2 points -
KAWASUMIS FUCKING AWESOME 500 POST SPECIAL AmA!
AaronIsCrunchy and one other reacted to Kawasumi for a topic
Are we doing this? YES WE ARE! So, hi fuwa. Im now 500(501) in and being a fuwa "elite" and all I thought it was the perfect occasion to make a post like this. I have been here for around 11 months now so maybe I should have made this post for my 1 year anniversary as Eclipsed did, but hey im doing it now. Although necroing a dead meme is simply not enough for me so im doing it originalrun style and going to thank people here. You see, when I joined I had nothing, I was a bum on welfare, I also felt like shit in every sense of the word, I was shit, the world was shit and my situation was overall shit. But, there was exceptions, for example Visual novels and the community that came with it. So here im sitting now nearly 12 months after, I got into the education of my dreams, I have actual energy, I have a cute girl im seeing atm and my appartment is actually clean for the most part lol. I also got over a pseudo social anxiety I build up from being a borderline NEET at that time that I finally got rid off, which helped me start some new and old IRL relationships up again. The community helped me a great deal to make me reach what I wanted and overcome my fears. Suddenly I had people I could talk to anytime if I felt like shit and I had whole skype chats that wished me luck with my entrance exams, which gave me so much motivation and willpower. So thanks fuwanovel, I love everyone of you, here is to another 500(499) posts! Oh, before I leave Im gonna make this short notice for people I have talked with, again, im sorry if I didnt include you, you're a part of this community as well and that means that I love you to some extend no matter what I have said to you beforehand <3 tl;dr fuwanovel helped me a lot and I love you all @madvanced: dude are you me? One reason why people enjoy cliches may be due to the fact that there is some degree of safety in them. Sure you could spend money on something completely new but there will be this overhanging fear that you've wasted your money. This fear isn't so prevalent with something that is using a proven formula or cliche.2 points

welp the plot is ...there is no plot, a mad scientist who went crazy because they were bullying him(? and he is creating some medication to gain eternal youth lmao, and the guro is just bad, the music was bad, 2/10 and I'm being generous here when I saw the woman with the head inside her that was funny and nothing else, euphoria was fucking creepy at some points this however was cheap and stupid. What's the point on scribbling some idiot things in her body if you are going to cut all her limbs off xD, who wrote this thing I can't imagine an adult writing this kind of stuff... What is the process of a fan translation?
FrozenRaven and one other reacted to Okami for a topic
Translation check/proofread is when usually a second translator checks for any mistakes in translation, it is usually done after an editing because of an possibility of editing changing some lines and making some mistake in translation itself while making it sound better in English. Quality checking is when a second editor checks for quality of editing. In fan translation those two are often done at a same time by a single person. Editing is a processes of fixing spelling/grammar mistakes and making it sound better in English. Translating is well translating. Hacking is a processes of extracting a script/s from a game and then ones translation and everything else is done putting it back in a game and creating a patch. Image editing is a processes of editing text in photos and CGs and replacing Japanese text with an English. Not all fan translation groups do everything true and an absolute min is hacking and translating true there are even times when there is only translating too and translation is distributed as a text that you can read while playing a game. This is how processes goes when everything is done: Hacking>Translating>Editing>QC=TC>Hacking, with Image editing anywhere in between Hacking. There are some cases where TC is done before editing true this is not a very good thing to do. If TC and QC are done separately it completely depends from group to group witch is done first depending on whatever you put more importance on conveying an original meaning or the way it sounds in English, if former TC is left for last if latter QC is. Ofcourse you won't w8 for one processes to be done completely for another to start (With exception of hacking) and usually it is like when translator does some number of lines he sends them further to editor while continuing translation, editor does the same as well as QC & TC. The exception is when a single person is doing multiple jobs, such as Translating and TC or Editing and QC in that case you can't send it further and continue your job as the person who is suppose to be further is still doing something else or it is you yourself. Or in cases where one person is doing everything then s/he is just going to w8 to be done with one process to start another.2 points -

Hi there ! I'm your average(?) french guy who've been lurking on this forum for almost two years, and I have to say that many times I wanted to post something, but I was too lazy to create an account. But things change, and one day you have to do what you have to do. So, what made me do it ? Procrastination. Well, that and because I started reading VNs untranslated, so I had to sign in if I wanted to ask a few things. Using Clephas list, I played (or read, whichever you like) Kamikaze Explorer and I would say I understood at least 80% of what I read. But there is a great flaw : It's boring. Well, not that much. The common route was really fun, but the individual routes not really until the end. Not really interested in the other VNs in the first level (Aside from Noble Works, but the english patch is comming soon), and not really wanting to ruin a good VN with crappy understanding, I wanted to know where I was in my understanding based on how I was able to read through Kamikaze Explorer, albeit slowly, without much trouble. I used ChiitransLite and juggled between the Parser and Atlas/Honyaku. My Japanese is low, but I've got basic grammar, but I'm still pretty lacking. Even if useless thanks to the parser, I know a little more than 100 kanji. (yeah, not that much :/) If you could make a few good suggestions (to know what I like/read https://vndb.org/u98814/list). Well, what can I say now... I read a lot of Light Novels and manga, and I watch a few anime each season. Just your average guy, I guess. Well, that's all, thanks for reading ! PS: I want a moe. A lot of moe if possible. x)1 point

I like Patrick Klepek (That may be because I love where he used to work, Giant Bomb). I don't always agree with him but he can write some good stuff. I think this is a good article which highlights both sides of the censorship argument. Even though it sucks when things are censored, a lot of the time I can see why they would make those decisions. Even if I think they are wrong at least I can see where they might be coming from, but if no one states there reasons it just seems shitty.1 point -

Looking at the reward tiers, the request for the box version as a separate addon doesn't make much sense (since all the $60+ tiers include it). That's probably a polite way of saying "$60 / a $25 premium is excessive for a physical copy" (which I more or less agree with). The MuvLuv campaign also charged a large premium for the box version, which didn't make much sense to me from a cost perspective. If you want to reflect market prices for basic box versions, they should only be $5-10 more than the digital versions. Of course, Kickstarter tiers don't necessarily need to reflect actual costs or market value, so feel free to ignore this advice. Basically, decide whether you want more hardcopy preorders or whether you want to milk that extra $15-$20 from people who are set on a hardcopy at the lowest price possible.1 point -

As a German, I find it pretty disturbing that you assume, we can't think about anything else than killing people, lol. That said, I always wanted to write a visual novel with Adolf as the main character. I would call it "Romance of the Third Reich" (do you get it?) and it would have a loli route with Geli Raubal, a Netori route with Erna Hanfstaengl and obviously a very romantic true route with Eva Braun, ending with an underground wedding and raburabu suicide shortly after.1 point -

I'll try to give a decent explanation, though keep in mind each group works differently. Hacking comes before anything else since you need to grab the scripts. Your hacker will extract the scripts, image assets, and anything else you may need for you to work with. Later on he might help you out with technical details but that depends on a plethora of factors that may or may not happen throughout the translation. With the scripts in hands, the translation begins. Some games divide the scripts in big chapters, some in just scenes, others have the whole VN in a single script, things can change depending on that. Well, I think the most common would be multiple scripts with a scene in each. Here's where things will start to differ from group to group. After a script is translated, where will it go? More often than not it'll go through a process of grammar and spelling checking, some groups might have someone responsible to read the translated script and see if any changes can be made to rearrange the words into proper phrases and not just some word by word translation. I honestly don't know the appropriate name for each function so I guess those would be the editor and the reviser respectively. Well, after those two are done we have the quality checking/assurance. The QC/QA will read the script and check if everyone else did their jobs right. Some groups may add a translation check and/or a proofread (whatever that is) somewhere. Image editing usually doesn't needs anyone else other than the translator to provide the translation for the menus and texts on the images if there's any. Kinda like the weird kid on the block. After all is done, either the leader of the project will pack everything up and upload the patch somewhere or the hacker will come back from his slumber to make things happen again. Some teams will throw a beta test before the patch is released but I don't think all of them choose to do so, it kinda delays your release and at that point everyone should be burned out. Maybe there's more and I forgot but I think these are the important aspects of a fan-TL project.1 point
