  1. This so much. One of the most useful features of any pornographic material is having some form of cue that lets you know when the scene is about to finish so you can follow along without worrying. Nothing feels more bitter than finishing before the people on the screen do and then being forced to watch the content you missed out on.

  2. Hm, and here I was hoping of getting back to yuri with this. Oh well. I hope they clean their act by release, but we'll see I'll most likely play it either way, at some point, maybe. Possibly.

  3. Update: Game is now for sale for 10 USD: http://www.mvizlab.com A little over a year after their Kickstarter got funded, M-vizlab has announced that the Korean visual novel Lucy -The eternity she wished for- will be going live on Steam on February 26th. This game is a complete remake of the 2010 version with new graphics, more CGs, a new ending that was supposed to be in the original version and even full voice acting for Lucy's character in both Japanese and Korean. The creators had a thread on Fuwa while the Kickstarter was running, although they seem to have disappeard off the site since then. I'm making this thread to let people know this title exists because I've been hyped for it ever since I saw it back in 2015. My only concern is really with the translation quality, although since I don't know Korean I won't be able to tell if it's good or not, but what I really want to see is a narrative that flows nicely and has no grammar mistakes or typos. I listened to their preview which has Korean and Japanese voice acting clips. Although I have no clue what the fuck the Korean version said, the Japanese voice acting was not bad at all. What really struck me was how much deeper the Korean voice was, but maybe it was only for that particular scene. Ultimately I'm hoping I won't end up hating the story and that this really does end up feeling sort of like Planterian a bit. Anyone else hyped or was I the only one who remembered this? Will update the thread when there's a Steam page but here's the Greenlight page.

  4. So, I finally could give you my direct opinion about the demo Well, it's bad. Everyone told about translation matter, so I will speak about tech things. In brief - bad news. I doubt they would be fixable, unless Jast have source code for the game. As that annoying bug with music clipping happen in all original coded IG games. I do not know, if they have it working on their japanese windows, but on all other windows it got that. Every version have it, starting from Cartagra and goes on till last Flowers instance. I do not know if remedy exists. Jast most likely do not have source code for the game and so would not be able to fix that. Why I think that they do not have sources? Because they used tricks to have it formatted +- ok. Tricks means this (that's from decrypted and decompiled script straight from the demo): [charset num=25600 left=420 top=0] [charset num=25602 left=860 top=0] [effect type=0 time=500] Suoh [v file="suo0561"] Ah, oh... I.... [bgset] [effect type=0 time=500] She asks if I was trying to frame her... I look down as her suspicions dip me in shame. No way, this can't be. Hearing everyone in class whisper about it, I become too ashamed to even be there, and just stare forward, red-faced. Notice the huge amount of spaces. You know why they are here? Because japanese glyphs all have same width, so they needed strings to be same width for english release. I believe even the line break limit is same (it was always 44 bytes/symbols (or 22 glyphs - they are 2byte each) in all IG games... lets count? seems match!). That's also why it got cramped in backlog - there is different limit for symbols. Backlog could be actually patched without sources, if they have someone to hack.

  7. Speaking more generally though, am I the only one who gets the feeling that Peter just doesn't care anymore? It seems like he stopped caring after the Nitro+ project went mostly pear-shaped. It's bizarre how little information a now-casual person like me gets from their twitter accounts, as well. The @JastUSA twitter is active and constantly tweets pics with "funny" captions, but it sucks at relaying actual information big time. I missed the release date of Shiny Days altogether, and that much-maligned "My GF is the President" fandisc was released to so little fanfare... if it was any less prominent, I'd consider it deliberately obscured. With MG and Sekai, you know what happens and when, cause they hype their releases on twitter almost mercilessly. With JAST... unless it's a SUPER BIG DEAL like Steins;Gate, nobody really seems to care. And another thing. While being hush-hush about everything like JAST usually is is not exactly a bad or a good thing as long as the product is fine, it also doesn't inspire much confidence. I like knowing who works on a VN (well, tbh I just find Doddler's attempts to fix things after every major release hugely entertaining, but still) so I can stare sternly at their twitter userpic when things aren't to my satisfaction. Doesn't really work with Peter Payne's account, that. I'd love to say I'm surprised at Flowers' lack of... well, polish is the wrong word... all-around quality, but I'm not.

    Shuffle! Review

Before I begin, I just wanted to say that I've gotten some feedback lately that my "reviews" have been fairly ... Laid back and not too serious. This is completely true, and I've written this with that feedback in mind. This is a much more objective, serious review of a game that I've wanted to review for a while. Hope you enjoy reading it, and please keep giving me feedback that can help me improve, I do appriciate it. Shuffle! Review, By Dergonu, fuwanovel Shuffle is a romance / fantasy visual novel originally released by Navel in 2003/2004. The game was later licensed and translated by Mangagamer, along with its two sequels Tick! Tack! and Really? Really! (You can buy the games here: (nsfw content on the game's page.) In the game you play as Tsuchimi Rin, a fairly normal high school student. When Rin was younger he met two beautiful young girls by chance, and spent the day playing with them. It turns out though, that these fate encounters would later change Rin's life forever. Shuffle offers 5 romantic routes as well as a common route, the story featuring elements of romance, drama, fantasy and comedy. (Note that a newer version of the game called Essence+ offers a whole roster of new characters and heroine routes not found in the original release, but this version is un-translated, and is not the version covered in this review.) The main story takes place in a fantasy universe where two portals have opened in the human world. These portals connects our world to the world of the Gods and the Devils. Contrary to popular belief, Devils and Gods are not omnipotent almighty beings which hate one another, but instead they are fairly similar to us, and the two races live alongside each other in peace. The Devils and Gods do have magical powers, and certain features does make them look slightly different, the primary attribute being their long ears. In the game, we follow Tsuchimi Rin in his everyday life. It has been 10 years since the portals opened, and Gods, Devils and humans live alongside each other peacefully. The overall look of the game is very nice for such an old novel. The art is pretty to look at, with nice sprites and colorful, well drawn backgrounds. The menu is detailed and easy to navigate, offering a great variety of settings to improve your experience. There is a date display in game, and choices will affect which heroine's route you enter. The choices are very plain and easy to understand, often literally containing the name of the characters to make it easy to choose the heroine route. In addition, the game has no bad endings, so playing it blindly with no walkthrough is risk free. Once you enter a heroine route, a sprite of the heroine will be displayed during scene changes, so you know when you have entered a route. All these things taken into consideration, Shuffle is a very laid back and casual visual novel experience, but that in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing. The music in shuffle goes hand in hand with the other elements we have discussed so far. It's very light and very simple. Each one of the normal tracks played throughout the primary part of the common route and the start of the heroine routes are simple, light and cute. They offer simple instrumental music with slight variation that glide smoothly into the background. The tracks unlocked later on during the final dramatic parts of the routes, feel like they are on a different level from the earlier ones. They do a better job of making the player feel engaged in the game, as they feature more detailed instrumental music which fits the setting very well. The music tracks in the game are all enjoyable of course, and fit nicely with the feel of the game, but if more effort was put into making all the tracks like the last few ones, then it would allow for even greater immersion in the game, something that could possibly make the game better than it already is. Still, every track is very comfortable to listen to and none of them are disruptive in any way. Among the five heroine's routes, each story offers a fairly similar structure. It starts of very light, introducing one small piece of information casually that will later turn into a dramatic twist to the route. This small catalyst is easy enough to spot early on, and figuring out vaguely what is going to happen is fairly easy. That being said, the game still does a decent job at hiding exactly what it is that is going on. The primary part of the heroine's route will be about Rin and the girl falling in love, and developing their relationship. The game offers 2 H-Scenes for each character, with CG variations based off your choice in the route, and an epilogue which takes place after the events of the main route. As the story progresses, the catalyst which was introduced earlier will start to become more present in the story, and a big climax towards the end filled with drama will occur. This can remind you of a normal nakige build up, but the last dramatic part is so short and gets overpowered by the lightheartedness of the previous part of the game so strongly, that it can't be called a nakige at all. The game re-uses a fair share of the same situations and conversations during the early part of the heroine routes. These only have certain new lines of dialogue, making the scene itself the same. This comes off as lazy, and gets old after the second route. At the very least, short new events should have occurred during these parts to make these scenes slightly more entertaining. This is luckily only the case for the beginning of the route, and the later parts are all completely unique to each heroine. Sia's route is supposed to have two variations, but similar to the previous problem mentioned above, they simply re-use the scenes with tiny changes in the dialogue. The final experience is the same, and so it feels almost pointless to have these two variants, as they simply don't do anything majorly different from one another. It is not a good / bad end type of deal, but instead two sides of the same ending, with all the scenes identical, except for certain variations in dialogue and the character's behavior. This is a little bit of a shame, as Sia's route is very good. Had the two sides of the route been pulled off in a better way, this route would have been even better. Primula, Asa and Sia's routes are the only ones that has "believable drama". The other two routes doesn't make you feel like what is happening is really a big deal at all. It is trivial drama that doesn't have any real impact compared to what happens in the routes mentioned above. This is not to say that the routes are bad because of this, but it does make the game feel a little inconsistent, as if the two routes which feel less impactful are played after the other three, then you won't really be that pleased with the end result. Actually, one of these routes has to be played before Primula's route is unlocked, so only one of the routes actually have that problem. The endings in the routes also feel a little bit rushed. Once the drama is introduced, the player has almost no time to let it sink in and feel the effects of it, before it is resolved. This makes the novel lose some potential, as it doesn't feel like there is any "risk" to it at all. It's almost as if the game is saying that something bad could happen, but then it instantly corrects itself, saying don't worry, we wouldn't actually do this! Still, with those factors in mind, the story in the game is still enjoyable. The actual core of the heroine routes does a good job of making the player care for the heroine and about what happens to her, and seeing as the game instantaneously lets you know that it is a very laid back, plain and casual experience, the slightly rushed endings and not overly dramatic parts are to be expected. To sum up, Shuffle! is a very light and simple, yet effective visual novel. It does a good job of making the player care for its characters, as long as the player is willing to accept the game's light hearted and simple atmosphere. The music and art in the game is well made, especially the art and backgrounds. Considering the age of the game, it is in fact quite pleasantly surprising to see such nice artwork in the game. The music could have had even more effort put into it though, as there is a clear difference in quality between a few of the tracks. The routes are a little inconsistent, and offer parts which are essentially just copy pasted with slightly altered dialogue. This alongside the predictability of certain events, the game loses a bit of its potential. + Nice art, music and well made menu makes for an enjoyable experience. + The story is enjoyable overall, and does a good job of making the reader care for the heroines - The drama in the later parts of the game ends far too fast, and are essentially pointless - The game loses potential with the lack of variation in its re-used scenes, especially in Sia's route Rating: These things taken into account, shuffle! gets a 7.8/10 rating

  10. Sanah touched on one aspect, I'll touch on another. The sex in Mass Effect is not explicit, compared to the sex in the majority of VNs which IS explicit. Most importantly though, Lawrence used the game 'Mass Effect' as an example to back up her point. Badly. See, she had asked a person backstage for an example of a video game with sex scenes and she got the reply - Mass Effect has lots and lots of pornography. Unfortunately for her, Mass Effect does NOT have lots and lots of pornography, in fact Mass Effect has zero pornography at all. When asked whether she played the game during the interview, she said 'no'. Obviously this was always going to result in much ridicule. Which was why the author suddenly found an influx of reviews of her book on Amazon. Reviews like this: "I know all about this book but have never fully read it. Why? Due to the overwhelming backlash, I have no choice but to agree with the 1 star ratings. The rumors are rampant that this book was poorly written and poorly researched. So without verifying the contents myself - I give it a 1 star. Good thing video games aren't judged in this manner - whew!!!" And this meant she had to deliver a public apology. So, why is sex in Mass Effect viewed so innocently? Because there was no EXPLICIT sex in Mass Effect. Cerulean Gamer brings up a point about the Witcher, which purportedly does include sex related images. BUT you have to remember that the Witcher has a reputation on the internet as being a sexist (some say misogynistic) game, because of how women are treated in it. Obviously this treatment of women is consistent with the world, it's not a nice place, but that doesn't stop the argument that the Witcher is sexist. Furthermore, the sex cards from the first Witcher were CENSORED in the American version of the game (along with some other stuff) and only available uncensored in the international version (of which I have.) Sex cards were not included in the second installment of the game, probably because of complaints. I have no experience with Grand Theft Auto, although if you recall the 'Hot Coffee mod' sparked a massive, MASSIVE furore. So I see no inconsistent treatment with regard to Western Games and VNs.

  11. First, let me state that 2015 is the flat-out worst year for VNs I've seen out of the last six. There was a lot of upward and downward flow hovering around the line known as 'mediocre' or 'average', but there were - saying it straight out - no kamige and few titles that really stood out from the crowd. It is definitely the worst year since I started VN of the Month, just two years and five months (or so) ago. Unlike in 2013 or 2014, there are not a lot of titles I really even seriously considered to be in the running for this spot, even in a vague sort of way. While there were a few titles that jumped out at me toward the end of the year, I wouldn't have even seriously considered them in either of the two previous years. Heck, my top three titles this year wouldn't have even made it into the top twelve last year or the year before. That is how bad it was. In 2013, the winner was Hapymaher by Purple Soft, its unbelievably high-quality soundtrack, art, presentation, and storytelling barely edging past Komorebi no Nostalgica for the win. While both games could pull both my emotions and intellect into play, Hapymaher's musical presentation gave it an overwhelming edge on that front, making it the winner. 2014 was also a hard choice... but in the end, it came down to Nanairo Reincarnation, the only VN that year that I honestly had no reservations about. Semiramis no Tenbin, Hello Lady, and a few others were runners-up that year (in fact, 2014 was an amazingly good year), but in terms of complete overall quality and appeal, they couldn't match Nanairo. Unfortunately, 2015 just doesn't have any candidates that match those. Silverio Vendetta was immensely fun for me, but it has flaws in its structure that disqualify it, in addition to having way too niche an appeal. While I did praise it, Kyuuketsu Hime no Libra (which - as most of us know - has been Kickstarted for translation) just doesn't make it to the level I demand from VN of the Year Candidates. Sakura no Uta, for all that it does have its moments, has a deeply flawed overall flow and a lot of technical issues with the story presentation. Soreyori no Prologue was an interesting experience, despite being typically Minori (meaning sincerely annoying at several major points), but it wasn't a game I could seriously consider for VN of the Year. Natsuiro Recipe is probably the best 'iyashikei' product made in the last three years, but it isn't something I could honestly consider for raw quality. Koko Kara Natsu no Innocence had the typically high levels of overall quality I associate with Clochette (despite the boob fetish), but again, it wasn't quite there. Hatsuru Koto Naki Mirai Yori was an immensely fun ride, but - like Silverio Vendetta - was both deeply flawed and too niche in appeal to seriously be considered. So what was I left to consider, really? Basically it came down to Kikan Bakumatsu Ibun Last Cavalier, a surprise entry in the last part of the year that tries to replicate, at least in part, the magic of Chuushingura (the VN, not the movie or the various books), except with a lot more bloodshed and in a steampunk version of the political and military conflict surrounding what led up to the Meiji Restoration. Now, at first I was tempted to think that I was jumping to conclusions, because it was so fresh in my mind... so I let almost two months pass before I made my decision, while I went about the task of reviving my memories of various VNs I played during the year. It really was odd what came back to me during that time... Sakura Nikagetsu was one of the more memorable ones (definitely not VN of the Year material, but it was immensely amusing), as was Rakuen no Shugosha (a cheap kinetic utsuge in a total anti/non-anime style), and Sorcery Jokers (the most technically sound of the straight-out chuunige that came out during the year). I honestly had to reject the former two outright, simply because their visuals make them a no-go for ninety percent of the people I know, no matter how much fun or how high quality a psychological experience they might be. Sorcery Jokers was actually a lot harder to dismiss, when it came down to it. In terms of scale, I was really tempted to say it could compete with Kikan Bakumatsu... but if asked which left a better impression, I would have instantly said Kikan Bakumatsu. To be honest, either title would have been a compromise. Neither is as good as any of the best VNs from the last four or five years. They are definitely good, as in being worthy of being listed as VNs to remember. However, I definitely wouldn't have put them up as candidates in another year. For the idiots who kept asking me if I'd say yes to Bansenjin *spits on the floor* even Masada pisses on his own feet sometimes (too much of an attempt to recreate the success of the Shinza series).

  13. Small tech rant once again. There is a vertical text in chapter 6, so I decided to put the files from the full version into this demo to see, if it was implemented... Results are quite obvious. So far I am under impression that no one ever edited the original engine exe, and if we compare it with IG trial it would be identical. Yep, confirmed, only thing they did is translated window title and error messages: <FLOWERS DEMO>, <Warning>,<Your display resolution is lower than recommended!>,<Game resolution will be reduced.>,<*May not work on all systems.>,<Failed to render window.>. Code is 100% identical to untouched japanese trial. All dll files - identical as well. So I really dunno what they ported and where.

  14. Well I better throw my hat into the devolution of this thread and give my brief views on religion. I am pretty anti-organized religion, but I am not anti-religious. I believe for every individual on the planet there is a religion. Be that a god, gods, spirits, reincarnation, the spaghetti monster, or simply your own observations that form the basis. The corruption of religion occurs when people try and staple a hierarchy on it. Religion should be a personal experience of self discovery on the meaning of life to each individual, you shouldn't be told the meaning of life by someone else. I always love how people try to blame a certain group for the world's problems and never actually realize the cause is what all these groups have in common. PEOPLE. People are the root of all evil and will taint any ideology, regardless of original intent, to something harmful and hateful to the human race as a whole.

  15. Character depth. I absolutely love when a game adds depth and draw distance to the character's sprites. Some games can do it better than others, but when the artist takes the time to draw "back-shot" sprites and make them smaller to show that the protagonist is in front of the group, it really says a lot. Newer VNs have started to implement this, and I respect that kind of dedication.

  18. VNs, that made their mark on history, huh? Well, first one that comes to mind is Katawa Shoujo, for giving everyone an easy introduction to the world of VNs. Next would probably be Tsukihime, for it's revolutionary storytelling in the early 2000's. Then lastly, probably Grisaia no Kajitsu for taking the much needed leap ahead for the localized VNs.

  19. @Rooke what's happening in most of these sentences is Japanese's lovely writing that enjoys employing repetitive and redundant verbs which, although in Japanese may carry slightly different nuances, in English they're simpy repetitive and unnecessary. The verb "let out" is VERY common in Japanese. It's used for anything ranging from saying a simple sentence to moaning during sex, but a lot of TLs just keep it as let out because it's easier than coming up with the appropriate English verb for that situation. What I gathered from these screenshots is that whoever translated this was WAY too literal because i can clearly see remainders of the typical Japanese sentence structure as well as several common Japanese expressions, resulting in that "unnatural" feel.

  21. Visual novels are often focused on romantic relationships--hooking the protagonist up with a girl. Routes are usually focused on getting the girl. The games are marketed (you can stop laughing now) with wide-eyed petite cartoon girls featured prominently. The games scream "masturbation aides for frustrated young men with an unusual taste for little girls". Compare this with games like Mass Effect. These are games about fighting bad guys and saving the world. The male protagonist gets the attention in the cover image. The romance is secondary, and indeed any story branching isn't generally heroine-focused. The purpose of such games is radically different. It's cool to play games about beating up bad guys. It's not cool to play dating sims with cartoon girl children that fawn all over you.

  22. The topic of sex in America is, quite frankly, fucking ridiculous and confusing as hell. Sex is a completely healthy and natural process of the human condition, why it has been demonized and treated like a taboo subject is beyond me. God only knows what the childrens will do if they learn about sex at an early age, so they might be more mentally prepared when they hit puberty. Because the inevitability of hiding the facts of sex will lead them to learn the majority of the subject matter from High/Middle school, and that will never go well. Although I do get why "gamers" don't really like visual novels, because VNs are not really games (for the most part). I always kinda viewed them as picture books for grownups, so I can understand why a community that is used to COD, Starcraft, or League of Legends would not be enamored with the genre.

I know shitposting can be fun, but you've continuously posted random joke threads in the General Discussion board for a while now when they should clearly go into the Coliseum of Chatter board. Figured I'd mention it by now since I've had to move all of them. Next time, please post them in the correct board. Furthermore, most of these threads are really crude, clickbaity and based mostly around inside jokes no one really gets or wants to see. I know this is the coliseum of chatter but... could you use some common sense in the future? One thread is one thing but you've done this with every single thread you create. It is in the rules that excessive amounts of these may result in threads getting deleted. I'd like people to at least think before they post, even if just a little. I'm not going to do anything now but I figured I'd leave this message as a warning for future references.

  29. I blame 2D and the pressure of success. Most women and men won't be attracted to otaku habits; it's viewed pretty poorly, especially the lolicon concept. I also blame the schools, lack of protection, and exposure to pornographic material (i.e. = magazines in the Family Mart).

You can't play a Steam backup without the Steam platform to boot it up from. It would take much longer to upload a backup of this VN than it would take you to create an account and download it. Anyway.. back on topic. This is a terrible job by JAST, like really bad. My expectations were much higher for translations from them. When did it all go so bad?

  40. I am still at beginning of the game but I like Chihiro a lot. But I am sure a lot more character progression will happen later in the game assuming they all don't die of course lol.

  41. Confession: I sincerely believe that anyone who drive 10 mph below the speed limit on an expressway for ANY reason other than having your car fall apart less than 30 seconds ago should be shot dead. It would solve so many economic problems. You know how the US has too many unemployed? Guess what, now we wont have enough unemployed. Our shipping industry would be fucking thriving due to constant thoroughfare and productivity in general would be increased. I don't give a shit if your exit is full, pick the next one, you'll get there quicker anyway. Seriously, this should be a cause for legal assassination. Why the rant? Because a fucking splash of liquid death today caused a 10 mile traffic jam on a massive highway. I want to find the people who decided to slow down and shoot them in the head saying they shouldn't have gotten on the fucking road.

  42. Da capo is a musical term for re-playing a especific part of a piece, just like da capo starts over from the beginning of the story and then stretches out to the real ending. Anyway, it's not a linear story, so pick the ending suits you the best.

  44. I assume they'd do the same. It'd be weird to have a machine translated introductory chapter and then a properly translated closing chapter. Plus, if they're gonna do machine translation on a 2 to 10 hour VN, they're not gonna properly translate an over 50 hour VN like Closing Chapter.

  46. I'm working my way through Grisaia no kaijutsu, it's my first visual novel. I fell in love with Steinz;Gate and Fate.Zero when watching them as Anime and I wanted more! I researched them both, discovering they were both originally Visual Novels, but that, disastrously... neither was on Steam! (very sad times). I flicked through the other VN's available on Steam and decided to purchase Grisaia, G-Senjou, Fault 1 & 2, Sound of Drop, Eden* and Planetarian. - Do people believe these will be good choices for a beginner? What should I go with after I finish Grisaia? I'm a ways now into what I think is still the common route in Grisaia (I just met JB outside the school) and I'm finding it absolutely fantastic. Coming from a bit of a Fansub group background, What surprised me greatly was the quality of the translation, and how the jokes were just so damn funny. This is some of the funniest stuff I've heard in my life. Let alone read! I can't believe it was written in JP! So far I'm finding all of the characters interesting, but when it comes time to choose I have been advised on going through them like this: Irisu > Amane > Sachi > Michiru > Yumiko. Thoughts on that order? Any advice on how to do it differently and why? I like Amane (sexy! confident! hilarious!) and Michiru (best. character. idea. ever.) the most. Sachi and Yumiko seem pretty great too. Though I'm finding the romance angle with Irisu to be a bit ... dodgey. I understand that's probably cultural. I've never been a lolicon. I never really believed you could have such complex, compelling characters outside of a very well written novel. I've certainly never seen them in any other medium. Whether that be a critically acclaimed show like The Wire, or a great game like Bauldurs Gate. Even when characters are on that level, they never get enough screen time to make an impact, or their story is simply too spread out, to drip fed for the reader to keep it all together. Maybe they come across amazing on a Wiki article, but not in practice. It seems to me that Grisaia is striking just the right balance. And whether it's Sachi tracking your eye movements to pre-empt your needs (hinting at a dangerously subservient upbringing) or Amane feeling all too comfortable with using her body as a 'resource'. The idea that you get to pick the one your most interested in and learn more about them, seems pretty revelatory to me. Even books don't have that!

For people who likes Miku, they must already heard one of Miku's original song that was made. This song was made by Lamaze-P, in 2008. This song is about Vegetable juice as you guys deduce on your own. In the song Miku talk about how good vegetable juice for your body and its really cheap(200yen). And this song makes children love veggie juice. Because of the popularity this song went to the hall of fame, not only that there are lots and lots of remixes both funny/stupid and genuine remixes. Also this song has been featured in all vocaloid games and live concert. Finally, this song is featured in the medley "Nanairo no Nico Nico Douga" .
