  1. I like the idea of a thread to publicly contend moderation. I feel that some unnecessary censorship goes on sometimes--often not at all related to lolis too! Honestly this entire thread so far until Rooke's last post was just a waste of time to read. Let's end the discussion of the need to ban OrignalRen. It's dumb and nothing useful regarding the matter has been said. Yes, the clickbait threads in the sidebar are annoying. They distract from real discussion and people asking for help--and just make the forum feel less useful and irritating to browse. It's getting to the point that I think action may need to be taken. I'm really anti suppression of speech, so that speaks for my level of irritation. I recommend one or more of the following solutions to this problem: Exclude new threads from the Coliseum of Chatter from the sidebar (best solution) Enforce descriptive thread titles (moderators may change thread titles without warning) to keep clickbait titles under control Consolidate Colisseum of Chatter threads and limit the creation of new threads to avoid clutter in the sidebar This is a forum and not a chatter box. If you want to chatter about inside jokes, broadcasting to the entire Fuwa community is not the way to do it. Keep it inside existing threads (in the Coliseum of Chatter) or take it to Chat Box (or off-site).

  2. Wind back the name-calling, please. Clickbait threads have been a problem in general, lately. Multiple people are making them and some Fuwans are beginning to get ticked off. Unfortunately, it's not against the rules and not a ban-worthy offense. However a cursory glance around the forum will show that people are beginning to get tired of it, and that because nothing official can be done (it isn't against the rules,) it promotes frustration. For example: And etc.

  3. This is something I've seen being implemented on a few reddits and I think it's worked quite well: Mods should add "Misleading" to the start of a misleading thread. Like this: While that example shows "quality shitpost" (lol), you get the idea. I think it's a fair solution for both sides, people don't like being tricked by a misleading title, and people also dislike no one reading their threads at all.

  4. Hello, my name is Roy Havenstone. I recently lent my voice to the main character of Wingdaria Destiny, a western indie visual novel that's currently seeking funding on kickstarter. The game is set in a medieval fantasy and focuses on the forbidden love between a princess and a blind peasant. It features all original artwork, characters and music, all from the mind of youtube JoyDreamer and her team, so I hope you'll give it a shot and maybe donate, as every little helps. All information about rewards, stretch goals, and link to the game's website and a demo of the game can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/390897415/wingdaria-destiny-adventure-romance-visual-novel Thanks again and let's make this destiny a reality!

  5. How the fuck do you even get sued for 115 MILLION DOLLARS for a personal case like that? What the holy fuck is wrong with this legal system? Anyway... I only know Kotaku through their immensely bad anime articles but I'd rather not see them disappear, it would be way too pleasing for Gamergatards.

  6. Fuwanovel has been obsessed with click bait titles recently. Whats more its all centered around a niche group of friends. This is getting to be almost as bad as when hsmful, HMN, and his buddies were spamming the forums. So... I vote ban Kurisu for the Shogun.
    3 points
  7. This appeared on the sidebar and I thought it was a serious topic, because there seems to be much complaining about chatmoderation in general. So I clicked on it, got taken here, and I agree with the majority - that banning Kurisu seems like the decent and humane thing to do! Fucking clickbait >:c

  9. So here I am, creating a series on a game I was feeling nostalgic for. It's been a while since I've gotten my arse handed to me on a silver plater. The game is OpenXcom, a faithful clone of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown minus the game breaking bugs and an interface that isn't finicky and clunky as can be. I plan to make this series interactive. so please give me names and characters and describe them to me, so I'll try to role-play them in the game, wherever possible (If you want to be a coward, I'll try to give you a soldier with the appropriate stats, for instance). Furthermore, your characters will earn promotions as time goes on. If you are the highest ranked officer in any given battle (or a squad leader - I'll get into those as it happens), you will be the one dictating the battle strategy. So, when you make your character, make sure to include your preferred strategy and any indications. For example, do you want me to be aggressive? To focus on explosives? To be cautious? To run away every time something moves? To use all the weird technology in the game even I have no idea how to use? To move in large numbers? To have everyone lone wolf it? To ruin my bloody play through (the blood's on your hands)? PLAYLIST:

  10. The very purpose of the CoC is to contain all the shitpost, clickbait, jokes etc you guys are complaining about. If you think these things don't belong on this site, then what you want is not better moderation, it's a change of the site itself and its current rules. As far as I'm concerned, moderation deals with some of the specific rules of the site that need to be enforced (nsfw, loli policy, illegal links), and hate speech, which will be harshly treated. The rest is almost cosmetic: moving, merging, splitting to clean up threads, once in a while try to calm down spamming and derailing if it really gets too far, but I'd rather stay very liberal on those because I don't want to treat forum posters as kids (even though they often act as they are) and I don't believe "repressive" moderating is needed nor efficient in those cases.

  11. But that's the thing, you don't see that it's in the Coliseum of Chatter until after you click it, since we're talking about the sidebar here. An alternative solution would be to mention what part of the forum it's in somewhere on the sidebar

  13. I would rather have some enforcement of descriptive titles than remove a board from the new topics box. We've had the chatter board removed from the recent topics box once and it was kind of disastrous because everybody kept complaining the board was being used as a trash can to make people's posts not noticeable, even though posts just got moved there because they didn't fit anywhere else. It also became pretty chaotic to moderate. I think it's fair for every board to have its place in that box, the problem is when people go on streaks and make a clickbait thread title once or twice a day, which is noticeable by the whole community Yeah I think it's annoying too, but a thread a day isn't REALLY a bannable offense in my book, as much as some people don't like it. And for the record, I don't like it either, but I still believe it to be fair. So yeah, if possible, I'd rather just make a rule stating people's thread titles might be renamed at the mods discretion if it's just blatant clickbait. There's also already a rule stating inside jokes and completely pointless threads can be deleted if the mods see fit to do it. The thing is, most mods don't see a joke thread every once in a while to be literally hitler. If the recent topics box was actually being spammed by multiple threads in a single day, you'd have a case for it, but once a day or once every couple days is not really a huge offense for most of us, even if some of you personally despise it. Tl;dr I understand people value different things on the forum, but all boards should have equal rights for the sake of fairness. I do propose we start enforcing some form of thread title rules though, to avoid future blatant clickbait threads.

Don't you think it's a shame to stop reading something you were enjoying because of that? You'll continue to enjoy it, and you will not anticipate the actual plot twists, I swear.

  22. Fact of the matter is, maef, there is that forums don't work by being all super serious. I was here from pretty early on, and so was Down. When the more strict moderation as going on, there would be days before anything new on the forums would appear. And what did appear was a forum game like "Name the anime" or whatever. It was stuff unrelated to VNs. Naturally as a forum grows, so does the noise it makes. If you want meaningful, thoughtful content, create it. Your last VN thread was back in February 2014. Two years ago. Now you've created other, anime-ish discussion threads, but I don't really take well to seeing someone complain about the lack of meaningful discussion, and plethora of spam, while they don't actually take the initiative and create it themselves. In fact, all you really do here is complain about Fuwanovel, and bemoan the fact that some people dislike Clannad. You complain that other people try to pass off their opnion as fact, and you yourself literally just did the same exact thing. So quit being a little whiney bitch and if you don't like the way Fuwanovel is going, leave. I'm honestly sick and tired of you passing off your diarrhea of posts as constructive criticisms. At least sanahtlig actually contributes in a meaningful way instead of bitching all the time.

  24. I was addressing that particular solution, which I think is not the right one. I don't care if the CoC posts disappear from the sidebar, I don't even use it. If you absolutely want your eyes to be completely protected from shitposting though, I think the only efficient solution is to close your browser and unplug your internet cable.

  25. We've had more serious discussion threads in the past months than we've had chatter threads, and it has usually been like that, especially after chatter board rules were created. Again having a joke thread a day does not equal chaos, it's more like that feeling when you wake up with an unexpected pimple. I look at the recent topics box now and there's not a single chatter thread in there, and judging from past days the most there could be is like 1 or 2. There's no need to blow it out or proportion and wish death upon the chatter board just because some people solely prefer the serious side of the forum. A couple chatter threads don't distract people from serious discussion nor do they make the forum harder to navigate. The very notion that having a chatter board somehow turns a whole website into a joke is kind of ridiculous in itself (In fact our Fan TL board is what makes us a joke around the internet, or so I hear). I've seen some threads in the "serious discussion" boards that were more retarded than some of the chatter board threads even, so this idea that a certain board is better than the other purely based on its subject is very silly to me. If no one really strongly objects, I'd really like to try and implement a policy against clickbait titles, just to see if people tone it down a little. I think that's a better compromise for both sides and will hopefully avoid users being annoyed when they click a thread and it turns out to be just a joke. If there's a clear title, then you probably won't click on it if you don't like the thread, and the ones who do want to participate can click knowing what they're getting into. Note the idea is not to ban any and all comedic titles. So long as the titles give the reader an idea of what the thread is about, it's fine.

  26. GamerGate is everything wrong with modern youths morals and expectations of what they're entitled to wrapped up in one disgusting package. The way they react to stuff they don't agree with, the way they react to confrontation, basically the way they react in general is disappointing. Most of them need to grow up, to be honest. Heh, not 115 million. He's gonna get a lot more then that once they finish counting damages

  34. I don't understand how they got sued for one HUNDRED million dollars. What makes him worth that much? I could see a 'take it down or we'll legally shut down your company", but this kind of compensation is ridiculous. Fucking legal system. I'm all for sites like gawker going away, but there's a million double standards. 40. Being serious for a moment, if people want to see more of these sorts of stories getting an official translation, and we're getting a high quality translation here, they'll probably want to support Tokyo Babel if they're able. Gahkthun did not sell that well, and if Babel also doesn't sell well then the future isn't looking good for these sorts of stories being translated in the future I'm just hoping Steam boosts sales figures. I was in a whimsical mood, and I thought I'd make the opening post a little ... fun

  43. This was actually irritating me a bit in Conjuerors VN contest. I had the impression that many voters thought that Hatsusaku is just a light hearted moege. But most comments I've seen from people who actually read it implied more that it's a more sophisticated and mentally exhausting VN, maybe even comparable to the true route of ef. You hardly need a 'recovery VN' for a feel good moege.

A feature I love about VNDB, though not very big, is the random quote that appears at the bottom of most (if not all) pages of the site. By clicking on it you go to the entry of the VN the quote is from. Sometimes you see a quote you didn't remember from something you already read, or realize how weird it's out of context. I've spent hours reading those quotes on boring days
