    AX 2016 - VN Bingo

Hmmm... I never noticed this. You sometimes see companies use language like this when they're actually like a month away from announcing it, but yeah, I guess this puts more points in favor of Ero Manga, fewer in favor of Maggot Baits. "Eroge!" was really successful for MG so them licensing more stuff along those lines that wouldn't be unexpected at all.

  6. Chihayafuru completely broke me down. Whenever I think "I want, I need, to play something", I think of karuta. I don't care if no one else will play with me, I need to at least give it a shot. With that said I ordered myself a karuta set. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ogura-Hyakunin-Isshu-Karuta-Japanese-Card-Game-with-CD-Chihayafuru-FreeShipping-/172251428141?hash=item281afc352d:g:TI4AAOSwJkJWjeAe I'm excited

  9. Introduction Hello, Fuwanovel. I am Nandemonai. Yes, the same Nandemonai from the PP/Jast forums, and the Mangagamer forums (back when they had forums). A few years ago, I found out that the NI Renewal version is a thing, with improved gfx and voice acting. Since Nocturnal Illusion is still my favorite game translated in the early years, I was interested. I have some Japanese skills, so I thought I'd try my hand at translating the updated scenes. This wasn't possible for two reasons. 1) The remake breaks the scenes up into completely different file structure than the original; and 2) The original translation is just terrible. Mostly unusable, and basically unsalvagable. I'd known it wasn't very good, but was still surprised at just how "not good" it really was. Long story short, I decided to re-translate the entire game from scratch. That was in 2011. I finished up the translation some time ago. Unfortunately, the coders I was relying on to reinsert the translation seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. The Team 6/26/2016 Thanks to Ryechu for agreeing to be an editor! 7/10/2016 A (belated) thanks to Mad Pierre mnakamura for agreeing to do the port. Well, to be honest? Right now (6/19/2016) there is no "team", there's just me. However, I did not reach this point all by myself. I would like to thank Kagami-sensei for generously assisting me in translating various lines that were giving me trouble. Kagami has touched < 1% of the lines of the game, but they're all the hard lines. Thank you very much. I would like to thank the folks over at vilevn.org - BaSF, Fenris, and kile. Without their assistance, this effort would have gone nowhere. They showed me how to extract the text from the original Nocturnal Illusion. They extracted the text from the remake (which involved finding existing tools, and then fixing bugs in them when they didn't work right). They sadly seem to have vanished. The last communication I had from them was in 2014, where they hoped to have a new version of vile ready "in a few months". Thank you guys very much for all the hard work. Progress Translation: 100% Editing: 50% Let's break this out. Initial editing pass: (by me) 100% Second pass (by Ryechu Darklord Rooke): 24.9% 71.0% Last updated: 07/04/2018 Coding: Need Humanity (0%) This project is now recruiting. I need coders capable of getting the remade script inserted into something that runs on modern Windows. Also, while I did a second pass of the translation and edited on the way, it probably needs real editors. Update: In the rollback, an edit to this post got lost. Ryechu and Darklord Rooke have agreed to edit this, and Mad Pierre mnakamura has agreed to port the game to an engine he is working on. Misc Q. Didn't you say the translation is at 100%? Why 99%? A. Yes, but there are a few minor nits that - since I'm creating this page anyway - I might as well try to crowdsource some picks for. More details to follow when I have time to post them. As it turns out, I was able to figure these out myself. Q. What about licensing? Doesn't Peter Payne have Nocturnal lllusion? A. Indeed he does, and I approached him about an official release. He informed me he hasn't got rights to the remake. (I presume the original contract is somehow still good, but the remake needs rights that can't be gotten because the company hasn't existed in 15 years. But Peter didn't say.) Peter did say a fan patch was okay with him.

    Hello!

Finally created an account, I've been somewhat following fuwanovel for several years, I innitially came for the torrents back in the day but stayed for the discussions and news. I finally got around to making an account so I can participate more actively in the forums and because I'm interested in getting involved with fan translations. I would consider myself a mid level VN fan, I've read a fair number of the famous translated VNs and a lot of smaller ones as well but I'm nowhere near the level of some people and my Japanese isn't good enough to read untranslated yet. Anyways, just wanted to say hi and start a conversation!

  11. Femshep is objectively 5 times superior to maleshep strictly because, and I really hate to say this, of the voice acting. When I play maleshep I have to mute his monotone arse, it's quite the annoyance, whereas femshep comes with a great variety of tone to fit every situation. I can leave the volume on when I play her, so I only play her. Unfortunately you can't romance Tali as her, but c'est la vie.

  12. Snapping at third-party observers who support your decision probably isn't the best way to convince others of your impartiality and fair-mindedness. If you handle your moderation role with such sarcasm and thinly-veiled passive aggression, I could easily see how spats like this would arise.

  14. @Eai You haven't really explained why you even want to participate in a chat where everyone treats you like a troll. Consider: is there even a single regular user that even wants you around? And if not, why would you even want to participate? As I see it, Fuwa forums and Fuwa chat serve different purposes. Fuwa forums are a place for disseminating information and topical discussion. Fuwa chat is for socializing and tends to be more tightly-knit. Given these diverging purposes, I'm perfectly fine with Fuwa chat having a stricter moderation policy: if no one wants you there, and you give them any objective reason at all to boot you, you're gone. Unfortunately, given your history you've more or less forfeited the right to equal treatment, and you'll always be viewed with suspicion. You're going to have to live with the consequences of your actions. You appear to be no longer welcome in chat, regardless of whether a moderator bans you or not. I'd recommend cutting your losses and striving to avoid the same fate on your forum account. Disclaimer: I hardly ever visit Fuwa chat or talk to anyone there, and I have no special knowledge of this situation.

  15. I mean, it's pretty obvious it's a yaoi series, so you'd expect the comedy to have yaoi elements I personally found Love Stage funny, even if it's completely different than what I usually enjoy. I feel like it could be a good entry point into yaoi, but maybe I'm wrong.

  17. Its being translated. Iirc, there's been updates on the manga gamer progress page. Its at 50 percent now. http://blog.mangagamer.org/project-status/ They have like 5 games at 100 percent now, maybe they switched focus for a bit to finish those games. They only have 3 games left after that so i reckon they'll get it done promptly. Well that's just what i think .

  18. I assume it's still being worked on? There's no way for anyone here to know what the team working on it is doing. Maybe they're working on multiple projects at the same time?

  19. Naruto Shippuden's been stalled since episode 40 something came out. There wasn't any particular reason, I just lost interest. Then when I got into anime back in 2012 I realized it's still going, but there were so many episodes I didn't think it would be worth it. And i was right. Eventually I just read the entire manga, so I don't regret not wasting my time watching all the filler.

I'm hoping for a good otome game, hopefully Ozmafia sold well enough for Mangagamer to localize another title. But, a good story based vn like The House in Fata Morgana would be great too. I've played Tokyo Babel's demo and it was pretty good, definitely a step above the stuff I usually play. I'd like to see something like that as well. However, Sekai Project seems to bag a lot of big name titles but I don't know how they choose which ones they localize since they seem kind of unpredictable(?).

It's not even 5x5. If they at least had made it 4x4, it would have been possible to get a line. But like this, it's completely worthless. Well, what to expect of the Sekai discord channel? First the English VN scene and now they're also ruining the bingo meme. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  27. Two Questions: The first, one of the countries in the game is named 八州皇国. It is fairly explicitly Japanese in culture, while the surrounding nations are clearly European. The dictionary lists two definitions for 八州. One, as an archaic term for Japan. Two, as referring to eight Edo-period states, which presumably gave rise to the first through synecdoche. How would the average Japanese player of the game read it? Would they recognize the term, or would they read it literally as 'Eight State'? And if they would recognize it, would it sound rather quaint or odd? If so, are there any English terms for Japan that would convey a similar sense? I guess what I'm getting at is it seems like just calling it the Japanese Empire would lose some nuance, as otherwise the original name would probably just have been 日本帝国. As for the second, there are a number of names in katakana that I haven't been able to find an adequate match, and I was wondering if anybody recognized them or had any better ideas. So far, about 95% of the names have been mythological references or historical polities, with a breakdown of about %80 Irish, %10 Norse, and %10 other.

  28. There's a couple of aspects to that. There's the all-ages aspect, and also the 'we don't need you' aspect. Japanese developers are seeing that they don't need Western VN publishers for anything other than physical distribution. They can gather translators themselves, and then whack it on a digital service like Steam with no problems. Need publicity? Just invest in a marketer. So the landscape's shifting a bit.

To be honest, Payne seems to be dumping a lot fewer resources into JAST these days. It was always a side project for him, but it seems like he made a pretty big go at it for the first few years of this decade. They made a lot of big announcements and seemed to be on the up. Then after some project delays, getting screwed over by some of his partners (5pb mainly), and the market shifting in a direction he's displeased with (steam), it seems like maybe he's a lot less enthusiastic? It's hard to say since he doesn't talk too openly about this kind of stuff, but the fact that they haven't even made a single convention appearance yet this year, not even a booth, tells me that JAST is a pretty small presence in general right now and Payne isn't too interested in rectifying that.

  35. I'm unsure whether this will be helpful or not but I'd like to give my perspective on temporary bans as I'm a moderator on a very busy forum with over 50x the traffic of this one and a hell of a lot more mods than here. In short, a lot of people aren't intrinsically trolls and they fuck up and get carried away without knowing they're doing so until they get a temporary ban. This is usually 2 out of 3 people that we hand out bans to. Those people come back and basically never infringe upon the forum rules ever again and tread much more carefully. The rest, however, are just trolls and there's a variable length of time between them getting their first temporary ban and their final permanent ban. Basically the rate at which they graduate from one place to the next depends on their intrinsic troll nature. Some troll as soon as they return while most are calm for a while before losing it and falling back into their old habits. In short, the temporary bans make a massive difference to the overall signal to noise ratio on the forum and are a much more obvious flag to the unwitting perpetrators that they've overstepped the mark. Whether the balance is different on this forum or not I cannot tell but no doubt the same rules apply to some degree or other. Deleting/hiding posts tends to actually aggravate the latter group much faster and brings them to ban-worthy status quicker rather than teaching them they've overstepped the mark while the former group are less likely to elevate to ban status. Both bans and deletions are necessary evil components of maintaining the delicate balance between free(ish) speech and worthwhile contributions. One thing I am unsure of is whether members on this forum get notification if their posts are deleted/hidden/moved and the reasoning behind it. That often helps the member declare whether they're going to be a repeat offender or learn from their mistakes before needing a ban. Note I'm not passing judgement about the details of this argument, moderation accuracy or anyone's behaviour in particular that was discussed in this thread but simply pointing out what we've observed on another forum.
