Hello everyone!
Forgetful Frank and one other reacted to Anonalypse for a topic
I'm new to this site, and new to visual novels in general. So... hello! I've completed Fate/stay night Fate, and Unlimited Blade Works routes, playing the Heavens Feel route, and beginning Rewrite. I still don't know the 'best' way to play visual novels, and would like your opinions. I have been saving every time a new choice appears, and choose the option I think would be best. Afterwards (When presented with another choice), I would load back to the previous choice to read the optional dialogue. Unless my original choice was a dead end I wouldn't use the second choice I made as my 'main' playthrough. Is this a good idea, or not?2 points -

2012 Found eroge thanks to anime adaptions (and Hatsusaku thanks to YouTube ). Thought that everything is in Japanese. Late 2012 found some demos on Fakku. Brass Restoration was shit. 2013 Saw a pic of Fell in love with her <3 Hoshimemo was the best shit ever. Couldn't find any other cool moeges so played Ikikoi (fuck you all this is a good game.) 2014 Played 1 route of Grisaia and finished Sharin and G-senj. Started learning Japanese. 2015 Played Hatsusaku + many other moeges. <3 2016 More moe <32 points -

solidbatman reacted to Nosebleed for a topic
I literally linked an article of a man that got arrested in the US and was jailed for 6 months for owning loli hentai manga. Don't know what else you want. You have to understand there's no clear cut definition for these things. One lawsuit could easily go wrong depending on the jury involved in the case, because obscenity laws are entirely subjective, that's why most companies don't want to risk it, as anybody with a sane mind wouldn't risk it. Also, even if they won a potential lawsuit, localizing companies are rather small businesses, and as court fees add up, it could really hinder their future regardless. If they lost said lawsuit however, they'd be setting a huge negative precedent for any future localizing company. That's why most don't want to shake the current status quo. But hey, since you seem so brave, why don't you localize some loli games for all of us? I personally recommend this one, it's one of my favorites.1 point -
So why aren't that many VN about lolis translate by companies?
solidbatman reacted to Nosebleed for a topic
Because after this happened the market mindset completely shifted and everyone became afraid of international scrutiny over hentai featuring obscene content like this. More recently, people were arrested in south korea for owning the game Teaching Feeling. And before that, a visual novel translator was arrested for merely importing erotic games. This is but a small sample of people who have gotten themselves into legal trouble for this kind of thing. Manga has also gotten people into trouble in the past. That's why everyone says it should be obvious why companies don't risk localizing loli content willy nilly, because it only takes one lawsuit for everything to burst into flames.1 point -

Do you play visual novels with or without voice acting?
Dreamysyu reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Voices are mostly optional. I can enjoy a really good cast, and there are voices which are just briliant -- see Steins;Gate's Okabe Rintarou -- but I don't think voices are all that important, and can do perfectly well without them -- see Higurashi and most Original VN's.1 point -

Do you play visual novels with or without voice acting?
Canicheslayer reacted to TexasDice for a topic
I used to read without voices, because squeeky girls yelling japanese through the entire neighborhood would've been way too embarrassing. This made reading VNs using the full-screen text format almost impossible to do, because they never put the name of who's speaking before a sentence and you have to figure out who talks by yourself. After a year or so, someone told me that headphones exist and I felt like the biggest idiot on the planet.1 point -

Fred the Barber reacted to Canicheslayer for a topic
Over the last few days, I finished... ...Chain: the Lost Footprints : I'm a fan of detective/murder stories. Alas, it was so....disappointing (all the trouble I had to resolve serious sound problems was...a waste of my precious time). Indeed, the characters are too bland, the story is botched (too bad because some elements, some passages are great) and the H-scenes are hilariously bad (again, it's a pity because the idea of animated scenes was cool). 6,5/10 ...VA-11 HALL-A : My second finished OELVN is a precious gem. This bartender experience was so endearing, so smart (I loved the alternation between very funny scenes and serious topics)...so addictive (but the fact I'm a sucker for dystopian settings and/or cyberpunk stories really helped). I think this surprising VN will enter in my TOP 20 !!! Seriously, buy it, steal it, play it, finish it ! NOW ! Edit : And maybe Dorothy will join my TOP 20 Characters 9/101 point -

Fred the Barber reacted to Eclipsed for a topic
Cyber Slayer's pretty entertaining. It's a standard "avenge my loved one" type of deal set in a dark and gloomy futuristic cybernetic world full of mechanically augmented cyborgs and sexbots dubbed "gynoids" where the protagonist Taolou goes on a one-man-army mission to 1v1 all five of the big baddies of a criminal organization that wronged him, all while being accompanied by a cute lil' robot gal that's obviously deeply connected with the plot. I'm about two baddies in; so far the action scenes are lackluster since he just steamrolls them but I'll bet the late game cronies will be more interesting. RE: classic vs. remake Remake has modernized aka moeified artwork, an aesthetic that diehard traditionalists like Vorathiel will obviously despise in their neverending pursuit for elitist qualityisms. I on the otherhand obviously glorify it. And there's voices. Everybody likes their visual novels being voiced,,, right?????1 point -

Canicheslayer reacted to DarkZedge for a topic
I do prefer having voices although I can read them without just fine as well, to me it's a nice plus to have and enjoy.1 point -
that's a hard question to answer. I mean, I love VNs with voice acting and when they doesn't, I cannot get fully imersed on the story. However, usually, almost always, I don't wait for them to finish before skipping the text, so I almost never listen to them completely. So yeah, I always, always leave them on - and kind of hate when MCs are unvoiced - but never listen to everything. The only exception, I guess, is Kanon, where the PS2 voice patch is terrible and buggy1 point

Re:zero discussion (and some other non important Summer 2016 anime)
Kenshin_sama reacted to Jun Inoue for a topic
It is unique. Also, episode 15 just did a super weird turn. Not a plot twist, or that sort of surprise. Rather, something that we all thought to be background noise has suddenly come into full glory, slapped us on the face hard, peed on us, and then mind-fucked us. It feels as if the anime suddenly became another one, the focus of the arc radically changing, the few episodes we had seen and its core topic suddenly feeling very silly and non-important. If I had to compare it to smth you might know about, it's like when in One Piece... It's like when Lost was still in TV, and after smth super important happened, people would be super shocked about it and theorise/discuss it until the next episode came in. Btw, you might be making a mistake in waiting to watch Re:Zero when it's completed. In 99% of series it doesn't matter at all. But, lately, I feel that the doubts and theories you make in your head are part of the tension and excitement of the series. Waiting for when you can just watch everything might kill that whole aspect.1 point -

kingdomcome reacted to Forgetful Frank for a topic
I'd love to try some in Japan, I'm sure it would taste better than what's readily available in our local areas by a landslide. Ah yes, teeth staining from drinking tea, I almost forgot about that. Such a shame, honestly I'm not too bothered by it myself, as I don't really care to have pure unnaturally white teeth, but of course I don't want it stained too bad neither. We definitely have to take that side-effect into account, it's actually recommended to brush your teeth after drinking tea to help combat that. I've never actually tried black tea before, I have tried black Italian coffee however. I'll have to give it a go sometime.1 point -

Fuwanovel Confessions
havoc reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
Time to vent a bit. If you are uncomfortable with the themes of death, old age and I guess to some extent, Alzheimer's, read on, I'm sure you'll love this. My grandmother is at death's door. There's only so much pumping her full of medicine every day can do. This is the first time that I've had to deal with a family member getting too old, and the whole situation makes me rather sad. I remember she used to come by hour house every month and do the ironing. After a few years, though, she had an attack and hurt her leg. She became unable to walk without crutches and as a consequence became a bit depressed. She started wanting to do things like leaving the house to get a coffee or something, which was nice and healthy. But then life decided to add salt to the wound: the house she and my grandfather lived in was too old, so it had to be rebuilt. She went to live with some family which I guess was probably the healthiest she's been since then. When they finished rebuilding my grandparents' house, due to some mistake the house ended up with huge steps before the doorway, as opposed to the small ones they used to have. Since it was very hard for my grandmother to traverse them, she was now stuck in the house and got even more depressed. Of course, she insisted on living there with her husband anyway. One day, she might have fallen at home or something without telling anyone, and my grandfather didn't notice anything. So she wounded her back and it kep getting worse and worse and the pain was such that she had to go to the hospital. The wound was terrible and she had others, too. If nobody keeps watch on her, nobody will know if she hurts herself because she won't tell anyone. She kept complaining for being at the hospital, of course, but she finally went back home three days ago. A family member went by to visit and what did they find out? She was completely off her medication and had peed herself. She can't take care of herself anymore. She can't do much anymore. And my grandfather, who's even older than her, can't take care of her anymore. She's currently sick at the hospital and I'm not expecting her to come back. The idea one is too sick to do anything and even live, hurts. Another family member who's in her 90's is still relatively healthy, able to cook, walk, use the bathroom, etc. She lives by herself although near family. Her memory's terrible though. She once was telling me a story and answering my questions and at some point she just looped back to the start.1 point -
