Hi, fellow VN explorers, I've just published an article on basic reverse engineering of unknown file formats of visual novels. It requires little technical knowledge (actually, everything except for the optional latest part can be done without programming) and it tackles the basic process of discovering information about simple container format and exploring its structure to extract files from a game archive. Koiken Otome English Translation Patch (by Flying Pantsu) Summary A long time ago, unknown beings known as Kotona invaded Earth in search of food. Humans were unable to repel them until after a few years, some people gained special abilities known as ‘douryoku’ which allowed them to exterminate the Kotona and return peace to the world. Now, Seiichi attends the super-elite Kashinomori Academy which trains people with douryoku in preparation for another attack by the Kotona. However, even though he has great power, he doesn’t have the ability to manifest it, leading to him being labelled as ‘most useless one’. The rest of the students in his class all had great skill, but in particular one girl caught his attention. Akane had average powers even though she came from a distinguished family, so she trained hard daily to improve her skills. Watching her, he can’t help but want to help her and that was when his ‘Amplifier’ ability awakened. It is an unidentified power which greatly boosts the abilities of people who believe in one another. As a result, he was greatly sought after not only in the school, but in the world. Some of Touko's route is spoiled by other routes, so you may want to play hers earlier. I'm personally going Akane -> Touko -> Yves -> Yuzu. Why is this summer so good? So many theoretically great stuff coming out, and here we have the third entry of the Danganronpa series. If you're unfamiliar with Danganronpa, it's a murder mystery battle royale classroom debates type of deal, and this particular anime is set right after or before the first two games, so there will most likely be spoilers, beware! The Future volume which is airing now is a sequel to the Danganronpa 1 (and 2 I guess?) Whereas the Despair volume which will begin airing on the 14th is a prequel to Danganronpa 2 (and 1 I guess >.>). ~~ Future Ep 1 comments:

Indeed, but on a smaller scale, Zodai is one of my players in fact. It's actually going really well. It's less about do's and don'ts and more about improving my abilities with narration and coming up with different scenarios. I've got pretty much all of the basics down, I want help with advanced stuff now.

So a few days ago, as I was scouring the interwebz, I came across this interesting looking VN called Tenkiami. The description on vndb is a bit lacking so I don't know what the story is about, but the two heroines (only two) are miko kitsunes, one pettanko and one kyonyuu. Here's the link: https://vndb.org/v17337 I'm a fan of kitsunes and noticed a lack of VN's with kitsunes as the main heroines, translated ones anyway. I mainly wanted to put this out there in case there were any miko kitsune fans who wanted to try their hand at translating this. I don't know how to check the spript size so I can't say how long it is, if anyones interested then maybe someone can start a project for this? I don't have the time to help since I'm working and training for the military (all I'd be able to do is proofread or edit anyway) but if this gets translated I'd be very happy~

Oh, no doubt. Finished a few hours ago, and I'm still going through one of my classic post-masterpiece story depressions. Don't think I'll be able to concentrate much on any VN/game for 1-2 days as I mourn having finished VA-11 Hall-A, since it's a solid 9/10 on my book. The few flaws being how extremely short and open-ended it is, and the difficulty of replayability. (Yeah, finishing great stories, be it books or games, hit me extremely hard, since I'm a pretty empathetic person and get super invested in the characters).

Okay, I have to give some props here, because the Touko date was perfectly written. No big spoilers here; it was simple, but basically exactly how a kuudere date should go. I am more pleased by these 5 minutes of text than I ever would've expected. Not bad, not bad at all.

So I was playing with Bluestacks today on this game (no jailbreak required and works for iOS and Android, just search it on youtube). Put my character on Disney World where there are a ton of variety pokemon and pokestops (like over 50 of them in there!) Holy shit, this game is so fun when you are not limited by location. Just make sure not to "teleport" your character into unrealistic distances while the game is up, otherwise you get a temp ban. Hopefully, this is a solution for those living in a rural area, areas where the game isn't out yet, or you are unable to walk long distances or at all. If you are an able bodied person, please still go out there and capture some pokemons. The summer is always nice and people wear less clothing which is always an eye candy.

Well, the race has started and Fuwa has spoken. The majority of people are rooting for Kaguya's Minion, (Eclipsed) with 16 votes against The Yuri Fag's (me) 8 votes. Who will come out victorious? As of right now, I have personally done the prologue, common + Akane route. Not sure where Eclipsed is at the moment. Now, for those of you thinking, "wait, this was serious? I thought this was just some stupid thing you guys would forget about after 2 minutes." Well, (I actually just wanted to post that picture. For all I know, Eclipsed might already have forgotten about the race )

I tend to enjoy the underdogs of Youtube a bit more; something just more natural about how they behave. (though i still like Jim Sterling and a few others) One guy I think deserves more subs is SebastianSB - he mainly focuses on Dark Soul stuff and RPGs, but his commentary is fun to listen to, and feels genuine - even if his playstyle is a bit frustrating at times. (he's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed at times)

And then you have me: Started reading VN's late December 2015 with If My Heart Had Wings. Found Fuwanovel in January 2016 after finding out about and hunting down a restoration patch for IMHHW. Befriended some cool Fuwa-spammers who helped me out a lot with recommendations. Fast-forward several months, it's now July 2016 and I made the mistake of starting too many VN's and now I'm all over the place. I'll bounce back and get through this, though! And then I'll start one VN at a time, or maybe have two simultaneously at most.

This anime is the sequel to Goodbye Despair. Absolutely do not watch it until you've played that. As for the anime adaptation of the first game, it really makes no difference either way. It is just an adaptation of the first game and brings nothing new to the table. It's also not particularly popular as it skimps out on the investigation segments.

Which doesn't invalidate a translator's personal bias. If he thinks 'stupid' is the best translation, and they mean the same bloody thing, he really would have no reason to hold back. What I think should be the real question here is how "stupid" is more American than "idiot".

There's nothing wrong with the translation there, mate. In this instance I also prefer 'stupid' to 'idiot', but that's just my preference.

Personally I don't mind their decision with Yuzu's speech patterns. I find it quite endearing in her case, with her it actually works when most of the time it's just annoying. Still working on the common route but so far Touko's best girl and the route I'm saving for last.

Mangagamer is VERY open to publishing/selling OEVN's. They have more now than before.

Bear in mind that the downloadable version of a game sometimes has a different technical makeup from the retail version. Thus, the English patch may or may not work with the downloadable version. You might want to contact the group about that.

Well, Fate was only had 3 routes for the starter (Actually, this is normal for some VN), Fate, UBW, and Heaven's Feel. The main difference is that even if you already entered a route in Fate, there's still some choice that could got you to the bad ending. I guess this is actually made Fate an unique Visual Novel here. Okay, since you ask normally if you entered any route in VN, there shouldn't be any more choice for majority VN here (There are some exception though). And before entering heroine's route, there's common route where's many choice that determined heroine route could be found. In regard of how you should play it, maybe you could use same way as your way, except it's more to the scene with heroine though rather than with bad ending. tldr - Other VN than Fate had quite lengthy common route and more than 3 heroines, although once again there's some exception. For the approach of how you play them, you could use your usual way with your aimed heroine, for most part though. Hope I could answer you here, and if it's still not clear just ask me here.

I'm doing an internship else where in Japan currently (Niigata), so that is the earliest I can come to Tokyo, since my internship ends the 27th of this month. On topic though. If your not interested in the cultural stuff, I can't help you out much. Since coming to Japan, I've spent basically all my time in a small town in Niigata since that is where my internship is located. Niigata is great for skiing, its rice, and some other traditional stuff and that's around it. Speaking about Fate Stay Night, I remember that you must got all 40 bad ends to get 100% completion here, so maybe if you want to got all bad end, you may need to using the walkthrough here. As for me, I'd like to using the walkthrough for playing VN here, because it'll save some time if I aim for certain route there, especially if the VN had many choices here (And mostly was quite pointless iirc). Although if I'd like to say here is that your idea for playing VN is quite good for VN like Fate imo, if only because each Fate route was quite long and it could be triggered at the beginning. I think you could keep your playing style here, but if you stuck you may try to search for the walkthrough here if you need my advice here. For last word here, hope we could see each other here later.

Okay, I wanted to respond earlier, but got swamped with work. I'm glad to see another fan of kitsune and miko outfits~ It just so happens I've actually bought Tenkiame a while ago and I'm loving every second of it. I have to admit, when I came upon the first news about the game, I instantly feel in love with it and couldn't wait for release. The game had that something special - perhaps it was the setting, characters and quality; maybe it was the overall atmosphere (the game is quite similiar to Monobeno in that manner), or a mixture of all of them. At first glance you might think it's no different than any moege, but this game is actually a classic, laidback slice of life romance drama with japanese folklore and supernatural elements. You may argue it's not really that special - and that might be true, as decent the game remains, but it's incredibly good at what it aims to be. Right now I am certain Sun Shower is definately the best August release and possibly, one of the best vn's released in a longer while. Regarding translation... I was curious myself, therefore I took the game apart. To be honest, Sun Shower really deserves to be translated and I'd be glad to see that happen as well. On the other hand, I'm not really the kind of person, that sits doing nothing; especially, when it's about things I adore. In the end, I decided to give it a try. And this is the result: Some screenshots I did during the testing, along with a quick translation. It didn't took me long to figure it out. Game uses SystemC along with E-mote plugin for the live animations. I'll be honest - Tenkiame would be incredibly easy to translate. The only troublesome thing I found about the game was the data repacking, but I guess nothing's impossible when you're so madly in love with your resident fox girls. So yeah, here you have it. Unfortunately, I don't really feel proficient enough to tackle the translation myself, but I'm willing to help anyone serious enough to start a translation project. Aside from that, Tenkiame has literally everything I need: Kitsune + cheerful imouto + sweet older sister + shrine maiden outfits + countryside + folklore Is this how true happiness looks like?
