  2. How about give your translation staff a bonus if the lower base goal this time around means they're getting paid less.

Since the usual recommendations have been given I'll stick to : - Edelweiss - Princess Evangile - Dracu-Riot (though the current patch is missing a route but it's being completed) - Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish upon a shooting star- - Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate (A bit more dramatic)

  5. Hello Fuwa, On behalf of the unnamed translation team that worked on the short game, Guilty Crown Lost Christmas, we are finally able to present to you an English patch for the game. The actual translation and editing has been completed a while ago, however technical issues that led to a very long delay. We can finally release for your viewing pleasure. Let me credit the wonderful people who made this possible: Hacker: lolgc Translator: Aiden K., Crysis99 Editing: Crysis99, Andrew Siu The patch can be found here, just extract the files into the installation folder and replace any existing files. If you still encounter any bugs, technical issues, or horrible grammar then contact lolgc over at his website. Enjoy.

    Greetings!

Greetings, everyone. After many years of being a strict JRPG gamer, I finally discovered the world of visual novels. Haven't played many, but I'm hoping to change that soon. Some other stuff about me...been an anime fan since the mid '90s, but I'm more of a manga reader these days. Favorite video games include Hyperdevotion Noire, Journey, and Shadow the Colossus. Nice to be here!

  7. Hi guys, I'm kinda new into the VN world, and thought that this forum might be a good start point to meet new people, and to get more used to the whole VN world. I guess that's it. Hope to get along well with evryone (I'm not native of a english-speaking country, so my grammar might have some flaws)

  9. Hello everyone! I'm a visual novel fan and developer who hopes to see visual novels become more mainstream! I love dark and dramatic stories that are compelling and intelligent, with some romance and action mixed in. I'd have to say my favorite visual novel is probably Danganronpa 2. I'm looking forward to meeting more people here and getting introduced to new visual novels!

    DMM New Year's sale

DMM is having a huge sale on a whole bunch of their titles at the moment. (Over 1800 games are discounted.) The list of games on sale includes several games that have or will get fan patches, (Like Noble Works, Yosuga no Sora, Koiken Otome and what not,) and several new titles released in 2016 is on sale with some pretty nifty discounts. (Like Inochi no Spare, Sakura no Mori † Dreamers and loads more.) A pretty awesome sale for Japanese readers, but not completely pointless for English only readers. I used to have some issues buying games on DMM in the past, but it seems they fixed that, as I was able to buy several games there this week without any issues. (Did not need a VPN.) So it seems they accept foreign IPs and foreign credit cards now. (I bought a few games literally a day before the sale, and those are now on discount. Fuck my life ) Buying games on DMM is super easy, and they also have the easiest DRM system out of all the download sites. (The DRM is directly linked to your DMM account, so as long as you have the game on your account, you just log in once when the DRM pop up appears after installing the game, and you're done.) If you need any help getting through some of the menus, feel free to ask me for some help. (Though, the menus are quite simple to understand, and the wording is so simplistic you can just chuck them into google translate.) Here a list of the games on sale: http://dlsoft.dmm.co.jp/list/article=keyword/dmmref=sk51w2f7/i3_ord=1/i3_ref=banner/id=7431/sort=ranking/?dmmref=sk51w2f7&i3_ord=1&i3_ref=banner

    DMM New Year's sale

DMM doesn't force DRM, it depends on the developer. A lot of games, including doujinsoft does not have any protection at all. No idea about western users, but european users in general have no issues. All you need is an account and active credit card. When you register a new card DMM only charges a miniscule fee to confirm your bank account's valid. I bought Himawari's Aqua After, it's also discounted.

  21. I agree that Western media is as if not more archetyped compared to otaku media. The difference is that there is that Western media has a tendency to allow more freedom to 'fill in the blanks' than Japanese media does, due to the business culture over there. For better or worse, Japanese business culture is mostly counter-innovation outside of the tech field... and even there, there is a sense of 'perfecting what already exists' rather than expanding the field as a whole these days. That's why smart phones took so long to catch on there, and why the Japanese phone-makers pretty much got left behind by the wave of the smart phone. Something to keep in mind is that the 'moe/slice-of-life' genre is the epitome of Japanese conservative culture in the VN industry. Considering that these are mostly eroge, that might seem a weird way to be conservative to us, but that's how it is, unfortunately. Innovation in storytelling is mostly seen in chuunige, the nakige and utsuge sub-genres, and sci-fi or fantasy. You'll almost never see any significant variation from the 'golden road' that most VN companies rely on outside of these genres. You might see a first-class VN of the type that transcends its tropes... but you won't escape the use of the tropes.

  23. Paper Mario the thousand year door: It's my favorite game of all time and I doubt that will ever change. I can't count how many times I found myself replaying it and it never felt boring oe repetitive. Dark Souls: The perfect example of well executed world design, extremely deep lore and fantastic difficulty throughout the whole game, never being unfair, just you being bad. The Neptunia games (the 4 main games): They sucked out almost over 600 hours of my life. I seriously enjoyed the games (and not just for the cute girls) EDIT: Forgot to mention the touhou series. Came for the girls. Stayed for the music, lore and gameplay.
