  1. This is a very subjective topic. Some people, like you can see in some responses above, sees very little value in H content to begin with, and won't care much. Others, however, might be more torn like yourself, as they don't like the idea of supporting censorship. I agree with you on the fact that when only the censored version and nothing else is available, it is better to voice your dissatisfaction. Whether you bite the bullet and buy it or not is up to you, though. This will still give some money to the original creators, not to mention TLers/ editors etc, so you should not feel bad for buying the game. But, you should definitely make it known, (in a polite manner,) that you prefer the original version over the censored one. If people speak up, then there is a higher chance the company might reconsider next time around. Make a poll on their website, tweet them or something along those lines. If we look at examples like Sharin no Kuni from last year, you can see that speaking up about it does indeed make a difference.

  2. Hey all. This is probably entirely out of the blue for 99% of you, but I'd like to introduce The Broadcast Club, a new VN focused podcast hosted by myself and two other members of /r/visualnovels: RallinaTricolor and Nakenashi . We also have community member Nai on as a guest for this pilot episode. This idea has been floating around for several months now, but a big move from Rallina put things on the backburner for a while. We finally got settled into a place where we can start regularly working on episodes, and so we've put together our first one. You can find Episode One here: http://thebroadcast.club/2017/02/16/episode-1-english-visual-novels/ We'd all really appreciate it if you'd take a listen! We're (mostly) happy with how it turned out, so I hope you'll enjoy! If you do listen, feel free to leave us some feedback. We've all already taken our own notes as to what to improve for next time but we're interested in what our potential audience has to say as well so constructive feedback on what you liked, or didn't like, is very welcome! Any questions in general about the podcast as well, feel free to ask! If you liked what you heard and are interested in contributing in the future, we're interested in having a steady rotation of guests on. We have specific guests in mind for some topics we'd like to cover (like Nai for this one), but we'd also like to be able to invite interested community members to take part too, so if you're enthusiastic about VNs and able to contribute to discussion, we'd love to invite you on. Also, many thanks to the fantastic gogopri for contributing her artwork for our visuals on the blog. If you have a twitter and interested in following our progress or asking to get on or feedback feel free to follow us here: https://twitter.com/VNBroadcastClub

Soon Cila and Mara forge a unique if sometimes uneasy bond.Unbeknownst to Cila, just as her life begins to find its new normal, the technological giant Velta Labs gets wind of Mara's existence and takes a mysterious interest in the android. 4. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sekaiproject/a-clockwork-ley-line-a-visual-novel-trilogy This is similar to how the Chrono Clock KS was set up, with them saying that the localizations are already funded and being released no matter what, the crowdfunding is just so they can do a special limited box set for all three games. So you shouldn't feel a strong impetus to fund this for the sake of seeing these games in English, though they do seem to be offering a pretty good discount over what the final retail price will be for the digital copies. The Ley-Line games are magical mysteries with plenty of comedy and some romance. They seem to be pretty well-liked, with good ratings in EGS and VNDB and generally good reviews, although people disliked the second game a little (a huge cliffhanger ending being one of the biggest complaints). In any case, I've had them on my VNDB wishlist for years now, so I'm glad the entire trilogy has been confirmed. Here's a review from Conjueror, for those who want to know more: https://vnrw.wordpress.com/2016/01/18/vn-tokeijikake-no-ley-line/ edit: I forgot to mention, yes, 18+ versions are confirmed.

  5. I guess I'm not ashamed to say I like H scenes and theyre now a big reason I check out many VNs these days. I've read a bunch and I've come to realize my favorite H scenes are just simple vanilla scenes where the girl is the cowgirl position, preferrably naked and decently long with good art. This is something that is admittedly fairly common but I'm always on the lookout for ones that look good, even ones that are Japanese only (though obviously something with an English TL is preferrable). If anyone has any recommendations, feel free to post 'em here/ I've actually made a list of my favorite H scenes and you can see what I like here: (WARNING Lots of NSFW CGs in this doc) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1clIM4YTL1DeHYkFy9FvLWrIcz3J27A_ZhOqeyA5Wl8I/edit

  7. Don't. Ask her for a date, and make it clear that that is what it is. And be prepared for the worst, don't expect it, but be prepared.

  9. I've finished Kagura's route in LoveKami. By no means is it long enough to warrant individual thoughts, so I'll simply post my thoughts on the game thus far below. I think it's about a 5 hour read to anybody that reads a bit faster than me, and likely shorter to anybody that reads at a reasonable speed. Each route may add about an hour to that, making for a total of 7 or thereabout. Thoughts (no real spoilers): It's not the shortest game I've played, and it's certainly not the worst. I'll conclude by saying I don't believe I am in the target audience for this title, with its lack of substantial romance, and that it's instead a recommended read for fans of Sakura series or ecchi who prefer shorter titles. If you're looking for meaningful drama, romance or... just about anything, really, that is not idols or ecchi, then I'd recommend you play something else. Since it's short, I'll be concluding the other two routes at some point. Who knows if I won't be surprised.

  10. I don't care for censorship. In a perfect world we wouldn't need such a thing. But then can we really all agree on what a perfect world looks like? It's also an oversimplification to assume any censorship is a form of thought policing. At the same time assuming someone was exploited as inspiration for VN artwork is bordering on FUD I think. I digress and that wasn't really what the OP was asking... I think. As far as western translations go I'm usually fine with cut H-scenes but start closing my wallet if there's too much cut content. That is to say story. I'm especially annoyed when they try to remove any hint that something happened off screen. Or the removal of jokes, etc. All in all it's a case by case judgment. Which is why the inevitable knee jerk steam threads boycotting a title w/o a patch annoy me. Many times it doesn't even make sense because there wasn't any H material to begin with. As others of said most H-scenes are especially bad anyways. I wish more VN's adopted the less is more stance and left more to the readers imagination. Also more lovemaking less bumping uglies to put it in crude terms. The internet is for porn anyways.

  11. Just try and make the most of whatever it is you're doing. It sounds a little corny, but there's likely to be things you'll come across that you'd never even considered as potential directions for you. As long as you engage with it, the ideas will come to you eventually. Enjoy it!

  12. Basically, it's just porn. The things that get censored, it's mostly porn.

  13. I think you'd like a lot of the scenes from Kimi e Okuru, Sora no Hana. The game also has very nice art and a good story.

  16. Confession: Further confirming my horrible sense of humor, I watched the Lego Batman movie and really enjoyed it. Was really surprised to see Will Arnett was doing the voice of Batman when the credits rolled, then thought back and was not even remotely surprised. He was perfect. It's no surprise to see him rock a ridiculous over-the-top comedy role like Lego Batman, though I still can't get over how good he was in The Secret World of Arrietty as a rock-solid calm-as-can-be father. Anyway, surprisingly entertaining movie, and well worth the $0 I paid for it (yay office field trips).

  19. Good luck! You'll probably need it. I personally liked Clannad anime very much, and it was the main reason why I got into VNs in the first place. But when I tried reading the VN, it was so boring and unnecessarily long that I dropped it after finishing one route. I don't know, maybe it's a good idea to try it again.

  21. I'm actually reading something new for the first time in, like, 8 months, or whenever I last read Tokyo Babel which I've still not finished. TENKIAME! 天気雨!It's a little bit of a milestone for me, as it's my first untranslated VN. As such, it's proving to be a slow read, although I'm definitely faster now than I was a month ago or whenever it was when I started it. (As an aside to those who have not mastered the moonrunes, I'd honestly recommend anyone who has a grasp of the grammar essentials and something of a grounding lexicon of Japanese to read stuff in it. It helps SO MUCH with progression. Just take things at your own pace and what you get out of it is amazing.) Anyway, I just finished the common route and I have some thoughts (spoilers abound I guess).

  24. Who the fuck wants to play a VN on a PS Vita if he has a TV available?! Why should I exchange my huge TV screen with HD resolution and dolby surround sound system with a tiny little potato screen, which isn't even able to support todays high res VN resolutions and some second rated stereo speakers? And not to mention that I have my hands free for drinking coffee and... other important tasks and don't have to hold up this little cookie box the whole time. Vita might be nice as a mobile device so you can play your VN's if you're on the way, but at home?!? LOL!!!

  26. I just finished 2048 and it has actually sapped me of much of my enthusiasm for it. The pacing was off, it just went on forever and felt like it would never end. The whole route should have been several hours shorter. It doesn't help that I never really found
