  1. Hi o/ I did a little analysis on changing trends in Visual Novels using the voting data on vndb if anyone is interested. I put up the first part of the series here: https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/159429107647/visual-novels-the-rise-of-a-medium This is part of a whole series of posts, with my next post looking at protags, and what kinds of traits different types of protags are associating with according to an analysis of the tag distribution on vndb. If you guys have any questions or comments about it, then I'd love to chat about it.

  2. Only a selfish and horrid parent would name their daughter “Charles”. “Charlie” is a boy’s name that’s more acceptable for a girl to use (because it could be short for Charlotte or Charlene,) same with Sam, but a girl named “Charles” will probably be teased, picked on, and/or laughed at for her entire childhood.

  3. They're getting there. The PS3 had less than 1 GB of RAM and sure the CPU was weird but that can be done through sheer power. An average computer is already many times as powerful as the PS3 so it won't be too long before an emulator is released. Some dude got the PS3 version of Persona 5 working at about 10fps peaking at 30fps. That being said, Trails of Cold Steel is getting a PC release soon. Soon as in some time this American summer. So you should just pick that up

  4. Bit belated, but thank you! I now have Deardrops and will start reading it soon with you guys! I would have gotten it earlier but had to deal with some medical stuff in the past two weeks that was a bit expensive, so I had to hold off getting it for a bit. :/ Also, if anyone hasn't gotten the game yet, it is currently on sale on MangaGamer for half price!

  5. You could take your pick based on the first games in each series or them as a whole between Maji De Watashi Ni Koi (Majikoi for short) or The Fruit of Grisaia as the second *Third as well for Grisaia* and the spins off were more fan service than full storied routes. (Wording it like that doesn't really seem right as they were and weren't but you know what I mean.) For me they where both 9/10 VN's full of amazing characters which felt real *A lot of VN's fail at getting both of those down normally it's one or the other*, Unique yet fitting beautiful art work and so in depth and gripping routes full of heart, tragedy and comedic moments. I find myself swinging more Majikoi's way as I found it addicting to read and couldn't put it down. While Fruit was more stop and start due to it feeling quite like a slow burner in some routes. Amane's was the most obvious of this for me as - Besides that rating Fruit in terms of my love for the characters and the routes it would be. 1. Yumiko 2. Michiru 3. Makina 4. Sachi 5. Amane Majikoi would be - 1. Momoyo 2. Agave 3. Chris 4. Wanko 5. Yukie 6. Miyako Majikoi other sub routes with the guys and other class mates *teacher included* where great too but some where a little boring which kept it at a 9/10 for me.

  6. Me? Maybe Majikoi if only at least it had proper true routes in the first VN, instead of spreading it across two sequels like Grisaia (And Kajitsu didn't even had aftermentioned 'true route'). Although I think both of those were had some good points though.

  7. If anything, I see the grisaia series as more dramatic than majikoi. Given that every heroine, and the protagonist also, has a traumatic past that led her to that academy. In majikoi's case, is a more entertaining VN with lots of actions and surprising out comes. I personally prefer majikoi. The agave route was simply amazing, and also found wanko's and chris' route with the drama dosis I like in a VN this long.

  8. Grisaia is sort of ok, I never really understood why it received all the praise. And it's not that I dislike that sort of story, quite the contrary in fact. It's just... only good, not great. Majikoi I loved, on the other hand. Loved the art, the style, the characters, everything. That VN could always make me laugh, always.

  10. Between these two series I'll always pick Majikoi, not because I disliked Grisaia or anything of the sort but I just happen to love the Majikoi series as a whole and it's cast of characters. There are so many of them that I like that in order to rank them I'd have to think for a good while about it. With Grisaia It's a bit easier: - Asako - Yumiko - JB - Michiru - Amane - Sachi - Makina with all that out of the way I will only say that they're two series I personally really enjoy.

  11. If I may say something I prefer more serious approach with some hint of comedy though (For now at least). But it's not that I dislike another approaches here though. PS - Good luck with your VN there.

  12. Huh, I liked Grisaia more (although this is just based on the first games of each series). I couldn't ever really get into majikoi. The routes were all pretty fun, but they weren't super immersive for me. Kind of on and off. As for rating they probably all rate about the same for me. Maybe I liked Wanko's route a little more than the others. I really enjoyed Grisaia though so I'm pretty biased, but this is what this thread is for right? I would rate the routes as: Amane = Makina < Yumiko < Sachi = Michiru. Although in reality they're all pretty close.

  14. I read your whole post, and I expect the points you make are valid (though I've yet to play a Da Capo game of any sort), but can we pause a moment over the fact that one of the heroines is named Charles? And, moreoever, that the explanation for her name is that she's half-English?

  15. Character sprites also show effort on the part of the creators towards doing so in my opinion. I really do wish that more creators put more time into developing their main characters. After all, they are arguably the most important cast members and character designs and faces help show a lack of apathy and effort to avoid making a plain self-insert. Which isn't even to mention how it's sort of jarring when the main character is the only one with no artwork/voicing.

  16. I've just finished Charles' route in Da Capo 3 and to be honest, it was a rather underwhelming experience so far. I think it would have been a great thing if DC3's six (!!!) different writers would have maybe just once sit together and agree on what they actually want to write. Because, the writer of the prologue seems to have thought that they are going to make another remake of Da Capo 1 centered around a big magical tree. The writer of the common route however, seems to have thought that they are going to write the Japanese VN interpretation of Harry Potter, centered around pseudo Hogwarts. And the writer of Charles' route seems to have thought that they are making a fluffy Christmas story for little kids. The whole thing would be still okay if the individual parts would be decently written at least. However, the prologue was mostly a cheap ripoff of Da Capo 2, that presented the heroines as so devoted and obedient to the protagonist that they almost appeared like brainwashed. The common route did at least improve on the latter part and presented the heroines with more personality. However, it didn't even try to make anything of the huge potential of a magical school. The short missions could have been interesting but there was no effort invested in them whatsover, neither on the writing nor the artistic part. Nothing was drawn and the missions lacked even the most basic signs of common sense. Example?! And then you have Charles' route which was immensly childish even for eroge standards. The whole writing also lacked a certain maturity Da Capo 2 still had and a central theme. And what's the point with those pointless radio broadcastings? Production values also seemed pretty low considering only the main heroines and a few of the more prominent side characters got sprites and there were almost no event CG's. Overall it's certainly at least a class below Da Capo 2 so far and even Da Capo 1 had a more consistent plot line. Anyway, I guess I still give Sara's route a try since I kind of liked her, and then call it a day.

  18. Sadly no. It's a shame Disgaea 5 isn't on pc. I love the franchise, but getting a console for one or two games is out of the question..
