Trends in Visual Novels
BunnyAdvocate and one other reacted to Yuuko for a topic
When you don't include VNs with less than 5 rating on the release graph you pretty much kill all the Japanese amateur VNs that are the Japanese equivalent of OELVNs. Then again big amount of Japanese doujinges are not even on VNDB so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯2 points -
Trends in Visual Novels
Plk_Lesiak reacted to BunnyAdvocate for a topic
Hi o/ I did a little analysis on changing trends in Visual Novels using the voting data on vndb if anyone is interested. I put up the first part of the series here: https://bunnyadvocate.tumblr.com/post/159429107647/visual-novels-the-rise-of-a-medium This is part of a whole series of posts, with my next post looking at protags, and what kinds of traits different types of protags are associating with according to an analysis of the tag distribution on vndb. If you guys have any questions or comments about it, then I'd love to chat about it.1 point -

Persona
Jun Inoue reacted to Darklord Rooke for a topic
Hmmm, well take this with a grain of salt because this is just what I'm hearing (haven't confirmed it myself.) The open world genre can be split into two categories, a traditional "controlled world" formula which is like a linear game placed on an open world map. It's like a scripted world, it's open but with cutscenes and fetch quests which means that one player's path will be similar to another player's path. The new kid on the block is the "engaged world", which builds an open world and the game itself is that exploration. It leaves people to craft their own adventures. Craft their own narratives. And these experiences will be different enough to each other to encourage sharing on social media. Which is what's happening to BotW. BotW leans towards the "engaged world" and a lot of people are excited. That being said a lot of people were excited about "The Sims" franchise and I never found it to be an engaging game ... Anyway, that's just what I hear1 point -

Go into Config -> Memory Cards, what does it show there? You could try deleting the card and making a new one in that screen. Also make sure that the memory card files themselves aren't set to read only.1 point -
What Anime are you watching now?
ittaku reacted to Fred the Barber for a topic
What he said ^ The first thing that caught my eye in Gabriel Dropout was the extremely liberal use, and periodic horrible abuse for comedic effect, of biblical terminology in the subtitles, which is of course completely absent in Japanese but extremely common in English. The subtitlers used it to great effect in characterization, with it working differently for each of the characters they had: there's an episode where Vigne, the goody-goody devil, sits down in front of her meal and says いただきす, or, as the TL had it, "Through the Dark Lord, amen." Then she does it again later in the episode, exactly the same, for good measure. That's just one example; it's kind of the tip of the iceberg, the first thing you see before you fall in and notice just how much is going on under the surface. The more Japanese you understand, the more you'll recognize just how much liberty they took with the script, and the more familiar you are with what I would characterize as typical American sitcom vernacular, the more familiar (and funny) the patter of the English dialogue will feel. It just sounds vastly more like how people would actually talk to each other than typical anime subtitles. Edit: Just watched the last episode, and one memorable line had a character use the phrase "open a can of divine retribution" (i.e., instead of "open a can of whoop ass", and further instead of probably something super bland if translated literally like "do something horrible to me", though admittedly I didn't actually hear the Japanese that time). That's some good shit right there.1 point -

Clannad? Overrated or Worthy of it's honours?
Nandemonai reacted to ChaosRaven for a topic
I think when judging Clannad, it has to be considered how old this title really is. It was released in 2004, so it's about 13 years old now. I've read it just a few years ago when it was already about 10 years old and would have rated it a solid 7/10 at that time. But to be fair, if I would have read it ten years ago, it would have probably impressed me a lot more. Furthermore, Clannad is a school life nakige/moege which is nowadays amongst the most common VN's released in Japan, with most likely several dozen releases per year of varying quality. That means it has lots of competition by now. So I think there's no shame for a 13 year old title, that significantly defined the whole genre, to be just 'solid average' anymore today.1 point -

okay, i found this solution for the white screen problem from a website from somewhere else but i couldn't recall that, but here's what I did and it works on my windows 10. just select all files and right click > properties > uncheck read only > apply to all > enjoy! i'll leave it here in case there are people still looking for it. it's neither the problem with ntdll or the voice button. and ya, i did set compatibilities to windows xp sp3.1 point -
The solution was actually so simple I'm ashamed, haha. But if someone else is ever coming here with the same problem, this is the solution: I had the .rar file of UBW still saved so I unzipped it, copied the two image files (fgimage.xp3 and image.xp3) and simply pasted and rewrote the original game folder's same files with those. Thank you for your help! I probably would have reinstalled the whole game if I didn't know the problem was just in the image files.1 point
