Tayutama 2 -You're the Only One- on Steam

When a company starts to respond emotionally to feedback like that, run for the hills. A truly professional business (and part of being professional is caring about your target market) would heed any feedback and respond to it in a positive and constructive way. This company seems to admit no fault and instead accuses the customers of having incorrect opinions. If they truly cared about making money, they'd establish a trust relationship with their customer base. This sets up for long-term success of their business because people will have more confidence in future work they do. Everything I'm reading so far screams short-term. They want money from this title now, without regards to quality. Decay found some pretty ridiculous programming bugs, as well as provided them clear examples of their bad translations on Twitter in response to the above letter. All of these problems are inexcusable and unacceptable. First the translation for Libre of the Vampire Princess is crap, then MoeNovel butchers another VN I wanted to play, and now this. I hope I'm just getting unlucky regarding TLs of important items on my wishlist and we're not headed towards some sort of VN apocalypse...3 points -

Well I can understand, have been feeling that lately too. When a novel doesn't consume at least a whole day it somehow feels short. In fact if your fine with Web Series, you should give Everybody Loves Large Chests a try. It has literally everything you asked for, and yeah the title is lovely. Definitely read the summary the author has given and the first 2 chaps before deciding if you wanna read it. And its helluva long.2 points -

Also funny when Michiru flips out for whatever reason. Runner up is Simizu Ai https://vndb.org/s416 (Komine Sachi from Grisaia). Sachi has a rather quite voice ..... but MAN, can she moan in her erotic scenes!2 points

Just curious~ VA is a really important part of a VN for me, what do you guys think? Ever got more hyped to play a route bc some character's voice gave you such a eargasm that you so wanted to hear more of it? (u know what I mean) Of course, not everyone remembers/knows seiyuus' names so if you remember the VN character, okay, say it! My favorites female: Hanazawa Kana (Mayushii from S;G), Sawashiro Miyuki (Lilith from Tokyo Babel), Asakawa Yuu (Rider from F/SN) My favorites male: Hirakawa Daisuke (not VN, but Kakyoin from JJBA anime), Suwabe Junichi (Archer from F/SN), Midorikawa Hikaru (Fuminori from Saya no Uta) Least favorite: any voice that's way too high pitched Can't trust: any character voiced by Narita Ken1 point -

Looking for an mature oriented romance VN.
Akshay reacted to ChaosRaven for a topic
Hmm, you might want to give Kira Kira a try. The whole band goes on tour theme felt somewhat more mature and realistic than the vast majority of moe blob VN's. If drama is a plus for you, you can also try ef - a fairy tale of the two or Eden*. Both are very emotional and deal with some heavy themes. Da Capo 2 and Clannad are also two nakige classics that have a good mixture of romance and drama and aren't already on the heavy utsuge side like the two previously mentioned Minori titles.1 point -

You could try Index. I wouldn't say it's characteristically dark in the way the story is told, but the story does contain dark elements. It's also relatively moderate on fanservice (which can appeal to certain fetishes), and Touma does have something of a harem (so far I've encountered 3 love interests, and I hear there are 4 altogether), though the books don't really delve into romance that much. There's also a super cool magic vs. science thing going on too, which is what I'm mainly interested in with Index. This title is licensed btw, so you have the option to buy physical books if you like.1 point -

Is there a visual novel where grades are essential to the story?
Darklord Rooke reacted to Akshay for a topic
Yes. In Majikoi, to achieve the good ending for Momoyo you need to have gotten good grades. There is actually a set of questions (Quiz) that you need to answer, and if you don't get them right (do well in the exams/get good grades) your confession will be rejected regardless of your other choices during the route.1 point -
Is there a visual novel where grades are essential to the story?
Darklord Rooke reacted to Vazurea Studio for a topic
Speaking from experience, some Japanese visual novels since the 90s to 00s such as True Love to Amagami had these kind of mechanisms. At its early developments, it was obnoxious and unnecessarily long. It was after Playstation's Tokimeki Memorial that the mechanism gets really even more polished and rewarding to play. *hint, hint. It's usually the "academically intelligent girl" route. of course, company policy's disclaimer: This reply is in no way reflecting the whole studio's opinion, as it was written by the PR guy alone with his working laptop.1 point -

Experimental book post: The Black Jewels Trilogy
Darklord Rooke reacted to Clephas for a blog entry
This is a test post, based on the results of the poll I posted a few weeks back. The win was borderline, so if I don't get a reasonably large response, I won't continue to post about my conventional reading. The Black Jewels Trilogy, by Anne Bishop is one of my favorite book series of all time. It is a dark, sensual fantasy based in a unique universe, where a race of magic aristocrats called the Blood rule three worlds, Tereille, Kaeleer, and Hell. The main characters of the story are a triangle surrounding one young girl whose very existence is their every hope and dream... for she is 'Dreams Made Flesh', Witch, the Queen of the Darkness. Those main characters are: Daemon Sadi, a male pleasure slave that has been twisted by over seventeen hundred years of abuse at the hands of the women of Terreille, protecting himself from madness only by the prophecy given to him seven hundred years before, that Witch was coming; Lucivar Yaslana, a slave and member of the winged Eyrien race, who has lived his entire life being called a half-breed bastard; Saetan SaDiablo, the High Lord of Hell, the High Priest of the Hourglass, who became a half-undead Guardian fifty thousand years before so that he would one day be given the opportunity to serve and protect the 'daughter of his soul'... and the father of Lucivar and Daemon; and last of all, the point around which the three revolve, Jaenalle, dreams made flesh, Witch, a kind-hearted young girl who wanders the Realms and is destined to one day rule from Ebon Askavi. First, I should note that the Blood are matriarchal, forming circles of obligation centered around natural-born Queens (a cast based on a genetic quirk that isn't tied to magical power but rather the nature of the female), who in turn form circles of males who serve to form a court. The highest rank of male are the Warlord Princes, primal individuals who possess sharp, murderous tempers and an intense need to protect. Ideally, the Queens hold their leashes lightly, and the first rule of Blood Protocol is to 'protect', then 'serve', and third to 'obey'. Unfortunately, due to the influence of two ambitious Priestesses from the long-lived Hayllian race, the Blood in Terreille have become twisted and corrupt, the good Queens vanishing over the course of generations, leaving only twisted monstrosities of the human spirit in their place, women who know only how to use and enslave men... resulting in the men in their districts becoming ever more twisted themselves, as their experiences warp their reactions to their instincts, breaking them a little more with each generation. It is into this Terreille that Jaenalle is born and Daemon and Lucivar have lived. Saetan, bound by his personal honor, has not been able to protect his sons, and when the daughter of his soul, already wounded by the corruption in Terreille first appears before him, it is only his long experience and iron will that keep him from crossing the final line he has held to for over fifty thousand years. This series is a story of the trials and travails of the circle of relations that orbit the four points of the triangle, as the outer points try to protect the center, Jaenalle, so that the dream might one day become a salvation to them all. Honestly, Anne Bishop's brilliance lies in her ability to intimately portray the emotional travails of the characters, the subtle and not so subtle dance of Protocol and power, and the unique nature of the Blood make this one of the single richest experiences out there for dark fantasy. In a culture where murder is legal but rape is punishable by death, but where the rules are breaking down, the central characters are a bastion of sanity in a world rapidly heading toward horror and despair beyond imagining. As Anne Bishop says in the forward in the omnibus edition, 'I started this world with Daemon, Jaenalle, and Lucivar, but it was Saetan who brought it to life.' She started out imagining a world where Darkness was, from the beginning to end, the dominant force, and in that darkness were both a vicious edge of violence, a terrible gentleness, and a primal, deep sort of love. The characters in this series are passionate, with deep wells of potential violence and compassion both. Saetan, Lucivar, Daemon, and Jaenalle are all individuals possessing a near-infinite capacity for both love and violence... and above all, they strive to protect.1 point -
I've seen plenty of people change their opinion due to Internet discussions. It's certainly waaaaay more rare than just sticking to what you believe because "my balls say so", but it does happen. Ofc, it's conditioned on people being both able and ready to challenge their ideas and facing the possibility of being wrong, which helps make it so odd to see in real life. Kinda like politics, with how candidates spend more time trying to ingrate themselves to the people through shallow gestures and words rather than state how their plans will benefit them.1 point

That would pretty much be lovecraftian porn. Is lovecraftian porn a thing? That's like the definition of fetishism though. Sexual fixation on an object or theme than doesn't even have to be in any way connected to sex for an average person. It's often hard to identify where some of them come from (meaning when and how you pick them up), but it's only normal that most of them won't do anything for you. I wrote my master's thesis on fan pornography, mostly in My Little Pony fandom and Sir, I can tell you, there are literally no limits on what things people are capable of fapping to.1 point -
Why Tentacle Rape genre is exist?
BookwormOtaku reacted to Clephas for a topic
This is just my thoughts on the matter... Tentacle H and tentacle rape (consensual exists, in some VNs) is all about the defiling/tainting/corrupting of humanity by the obviously inhuman. Since some of my tendencies head in that direction (I like the Vanadis monster girl VNs) I can theorize... I've also played several games of the type, primarily the Venus Blood games and a few Black Cyc games back in the day. For the most part, whenever tentacles get involved, it seems that character corruption accompanies it as a set, regardless of consensual or non-consensual aspects. Edit: This is rather obviously illustrated by the fact that females that are normally associated with 'purity' or high culture tend to be the majority targets of tentacle rape... Mahou shoujo, princess knights, princesses, exorcist miko girls... etc etc.1 point -

I am very glad they decided not to just write off the project and move on. The temptation to do that is very powerful (throwing good money after bad, and all that) but it really wouldn't have done good things for their reputation. Look at MangaGamer's shaky reputation early on (because that's what they did with a lot of their early titles); it took them quite awhile to shrug it off.1 point -

There is a new Kickstarter update where they respond to our questions from the last one. (Read the whole update here.) First, it would appear they are going to make a Patreon to support the new pass that is being done to the game. Also, in response to questions about whether native english speakers and TLers with JP knowledge being involved, their response was promising: Also, a correction to something I said when the last update came out: The 18+ patch IS available for non-backers now, and has been for a little while it seems. This wasn't mentioned in any update on their KS, and so I assumed it was never made available. So if anyone were actually waiting for the patch, you can buy it on their website. Overall it seems like there is hope for this project after all. This new pass will hopefully improve the TL significantly, and it would appear MiKandi wants to set things right, instead of just abandoning ship completely.1 point -
Kyuuketsuki no Libra TL quality
Darklord Rooke reacted to Clephas for a topic
To be honest... I was gravely disappointed in how this game was handled at every stage after the Kickstarter. When I was given a chance to beta test the game, I dropped it inside the first chapter, having discovered that a whopping 85% of the lines were either outright wrong or so grammatically messed up that it was obvious someone had just put them through google translate and pasted them in. To be blunt, they could have easily had this translated by any of a number of talented translators in the community for less than they apparently paid, but instead they left it to amateurs? That was just idiotic. Also, as an answer to those who still question whether the base material was any good, the answer is, yes, it was. The protagonist was always a bit of a non-starter as a character in that type of game, but the rest of the story was good enough that I felt satisfied. If there was one thing that kept driving me crazy, besides the protagonist's unwillingness to embrace any part of his nature, it was that idiotic obsession with girls wetting themselves the writers apparently had.1 point -

I didn't see any better thread, and I didn't really want to start a new one. So I chant my dark necromantic incantations instead. So there was an update that went out over Halloween. It was marked 'For Backers Only', so I'm not going to post the whole thing here. But there are some highly relevant parts: Also, I found this: http://www.7happycreations.com/just-who-translated-libra-of-the-vampire-princess/ This description is horrifying. 3 translation teams, team changeovers, it was the particular team members' first translation job (which is just terrible - if they're a big company, haven't they got veteran people? No team should ever consist of all newbies.) They translated "simply and cleanly" in an effort to make their style fit with the other teams' styles, even though they never saw any of their work! Un. Believable.1 point -
