What are you playing?

SeaBed is a curious VN. One of my favorite VNs in 2016 and reading it again in English was every bit as wonderful as when I first read it. SeaBed very unique in a way that doesn't stand out. You could describe it as a psychological mystery, which isn't wrong, but is quite far from what the story sets out to do. Even calling it a Yuri-game feels bit wrong since that makes it seem like the main characters being two women in love is something special, when it just completely normal. That's what SeaBed is mostly, mundane. It's people living their lives. Reminiscing past vacations, trips around the world, and all the silly stuff they did when they were younger. Dealing with their problems. Feeling sad for the things they've lost and things they can't remember. And continuing to living their lives. SeaBed is also written in a way that emphasises this. The style is actually really unique, but it's very easy to overlook since everything feels so mundane. The narration is very passive, distant, emotionless. Most everything is described in the same matter of fact manner that lacks the normal emotional elements we usually expect from narration. The characters don't judge what's happening, normal and unnatural, reality and dreams are all taken in as they are. To me reading Seabed felt like reading my old travel diaries. The events and cursory thoughts are there, but the emotions are lacking. Our feelings feel so obvious at the moment that the thought of writing them down doesn't even cross our minds. Yet reading this diary afterwards, and I'm left wondering how I really felt back then. It's also lack of dramatisation that makes SeaBed stand out. We don't consider our lives especially special, and don't make huge fuss of the events that may occur. Most of the time we only realise the change afterwards, if there were any in the first place. SeaBed also refuses to make a show out of anything. In SeaBed, an event or piece of information that could be framed as a huge plot-twist in any other VN is dealt with the same normalcy as everything. With the same "I see". This kind of "flatness" was very refreshing to me. By refusing the comply with the rules and structure we expect from drama, SeaBed weaves a very relatable, humane, and ultimately very touching story. Slice-of-Life is there to remind that there's joy to be found in mundane, that it too can be special. SeaBed goes step further and shows that mundane is just how thing are, and it's neither good or bad. TLDR; SeaBed is pretty unique and really hard to explain. And it's definitely not as boring as my ramblings might suggest. There's the mystery which is pretty intriguing and the characters are really good. That said I don't blame anyone for finding the unorthodox writing styling really boring and uninteresting, although I personally really like it. It has this dreamy, kind of hypnotic feeling to it. The non-linearity, slow pace, and the mundaneness of it can also be off-putting to some. But for those looking for unique experiences, SeaBed can be something special. And do try the demo. Seeing it for yourself will surely tell more than any of my attempt to express it. Oh, I guess I should mention that the presentation is really good for doujin VN, and the soundtrack is great and very fitting.3 points -

I'm not gonna join in derailing this, (Fred said everything I wanted to say anyways,) so I'll just say: good luck guys! The west needs more kitsune games TLed, because kitsune are justice.2 points

So, what are your favorite opening movies in the VNs you've already read or want to read? As for me, if I had to pick one opening, I'd choose Steins;Gate 0. It really shows how popular the SG franchise is, because it looks like bigger budget went into this OP's production than some VNs have a a whole. Incidentally, I haven't read S;G0 yet, so I can't say how well it connects to the actual story. There are a lot more openings I like, including the Minori works or Muv-luv Alternative, but I would also want to mention the second opening movie from Hello, Lady!. It looks pretty spoilerous, so watch on your own risk. The reason: I wasn't particularly interested in the title before I've seen this opening, but it looks so intriguing so I was immediately sold out, and now it's one of the top untranslated VNs I want to read.1 point

Favorite opening movie in a VN

All the VNs in Steampunk-series have god-tier openings. Ones from Sharnoth and Gahkthun being probably my favorites I also have soft spot for the OP of Kusarihime. It's kind of endearingly retro1 point -

Wow, the thread already open with S;G0, what an overkill! Anyway, the openings I like usually are ones that I thought that the songs went really well with the pics they selected! My picks (yes, they are BL games, but there's no sex, kiss or whatever in these openings, you can watch or just hear them just fine!): Shingakkou... And for a game I never played but dig the opening... Sweet Pool.1 point -
Wait, the endings are your main gripe with Michiru's route? The whole thing is a goddamn mess lol (and I love Michiru)1 point

It's been a while, guys and gals. I don't want to needlessly instigate anyone's hopes, but I'm here to say Tenkiame has been finally picked up for early pre-translation work! TL&DR Your prayers have been heard There is no rough estimate as of now and we're not planning to make any for the meanwhile. TL&DR It'll be finished, when it's done™. We're planning to translate the trial version first. Trial version covers prologue and common route; there are no h-scenes. We want to keep this as low-key as possible for now. We believe it's better to surprise people with sudden releases, instead of promoting the TL for months, just to unexpectedly drop it afterwards. We'll probably post more info here afterwards; it's high likely we might try to put up some simple website for the project, or at least a dedicated thread on the forums, but those will come with more concrete information. Cheers~1 point -

DharmaFreedom reacted to zWZcEbNq for a topic
Well, I don't deny the beauty of his later music because he as an artist had multiple phases and he certainly improved his singing style later in life, and he certainly released some very intense emotional tracks as the years went by, however I personally tend to prefer his earlier works because to me they're a good balance of Sinatra's iconic phrasing, mixed with his early high vocal range which he unfortunately had already started to lose by the mid 50's, but if I had to pick a particular period of his later career in which I believe he was at his absolute best, it would definitely be in his album "No One Cares'', which is by far his darkest album. It's honestly pretty hard to find recordings from that album online, but here's one:1 point -

Watched Clear Card arc, and I like of how the gang still hasn't change since back at 1999 even though they're at 7th grade. Interesting to note that apparently Yukito still didn't know that he has another personality which is one of Sakura's familiar (Yue), and apparently Sakura herself will tell Yukito later so there's something to look forward. As for the format, I bet it'll going to follow the old series only with Clear Card instead of Clow's or Sakura's Card (Pretty obvious). For now, I'll following Clear Card arc here along with Hughto PreCure in which will come at February later. PS - I like that Tomoyo still into make Sakura's cute costume as shown in next episode preview lol.1 point -

Frank Sinatra has famously been called "The Voice" for as long as most of us can remember, but what most people probably don't know is that the Sinatra we've come to know from our parents is far from being the man at his best. This here is what I consider to be Sinatra at the peak of his singing ability, singing his signature song "Put Your Dreams Away (For Another Day)" under the Columbia label in 1945.1 point -

Okay, I wanted to respond earlier, but got swamped with work. I'm glad to see another fan of kitsune and miko outfits~ It just so happens I've actually bought Tenkiame a while ago and I'm loving every second of it. I have to admit, when I came upon the first news about the game, I instantly feel in love with it and couldn't wait for release. The game had that something special - perhaps it was the setting, characters and quality; maybe it was the overall atmosphere (the game is quite similiar to Monobeno in that manner), or a mixture of all of them. At first glance you might think it's no different than any moege, but this game is actually a classic, laidback slice of life romance drama with japanese folklore and supernatural elements. You may argue it's not really that special - and that might be true, as decent the game remains, but it's incredibly good at what it aims to be. Right now I am certain Sun Shower is definately the best August release and possibly, one of the best vn's released in a longer while. Regarding translation... I was curious myself, therefore I took the game apart. To be honest, Sun Shower really deserves to be translated and I'd be glad to see that happen as well. On the other hand, I'm not really the kind of person, that sits doing nothing; especially, when it's about things I adore. In the end, I decided to give it a try. And this is the result: Some screenshots I did during the testing, along with a quick translation. It didn't took me long to figure it out. Game uses SystemC along with E-mote plugin for the live animations. I'll be honest - Tenkiame would be incredibly easy to translate. The only troublesome thing I found about the game was the data repacking, but I guess nothing's impossible when you're so madly in love with your resident fox girls. So yeah, here you have it. Unfortunately, I don't really feel proficient enough to tackle the translation myself, but I'm willing to help anyone serious enough to start a translation project. Aside from that, Tenkiame has literally everything I need: Kitsune + cheerful imouto + sweet older sister + shrine maiden outfits + countryside + folklore Is this how true happiness looks like?1 point -
