Plk_Lesiak's 500 posts ROAST! [Everyone can join! No rules! No limitations!]
Kenshin_sama and 4 others reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a topic
Oh hey, I've made it to 500 likes, let's start again!!!! ...yeah, no, even I'm not that obnoxious. I'll wait at least to 2000 posts before I start shouting for attention again. As the thread died out, I've just wanted to thank you all guys for participating in this twisted masochism session, but above all for those last few months of fun that Fuwa gave me. I've spent absolutely unreasonable amounts of time here, got scolded a few times by my GF for constantly checking the Forums, suffered sleep deprivation from trying to fit regular VN sessions and writing blog posts into my schedule... But mostly, had an absolute blast, more than in any place over the internet in the last two decades and in ways that helped me get through some serious RL setbacks without ever feeling broken or alone. Apart from the people that already got a shout-out in the previous post, it would be unfair for me to not mention @MaggieROBOT for sparking my interest in the Otome and BL niches, @Narcosis for being the person I most enjoy disagreeing with and @Zander, for the reasons he knows about (just get your shit together and start logging in again, you shitposter ). And @arosia for inspiring me to aim higher and be more confident about my writing. I surely missed a few people I'm ought to thank more directly, but it's the whole community that makes this place what it is, so I can't possibly mention everyone that deserves it. I hope you guys will be able to bear my presence in the future, because it will be hard for me to stop hanging out around here at this point - especially when my mission of helping OELVNs conquer the world is far from over.5 points -

I've never understood why everyone starts their confessions with "Confession:", shouldn't the name of the thread, and the content of the post, be enough? Whenever I go home to my parents I wonder why they are together, the only thing they seem to have in common seems to be me and my sister. I suppose it's one of life's great mysteries.2 points

As far as I can tell (but I'm not security expert, just an amateur programmer and malware enthusiast) all tunneling viruses are stealth viruses, but not all stealth viruses are tunneling. The correct answer as it's described by the question would be C for me.2 points -
Firstly, do you watch lectures―and/or other audio- or video-related materials―at a higher speed than default? I find it easy to zone out when listening to somebody speak about a subject at a normal pace; after all, it seems to be a general principle that people can interpret others' speech faster than those others can formulate it. Additionally, if you watch something at 2x speed, you can watch it twice within the same period of time it would have taken to watch it once. (However, it may be wiser to stop every once in a while throughout the video/audio to determine whether or not you're actually immersed in the material or simply listening to it in a superficial way, much like when you run your eyes over a paragraph of text in a book but realize a few moments later that you weren't actually paying attention to it.) Secondly, I've found that my grasp of material from a recorded lecture is much better when I write notes organizing the material as I go along. Now, I would like to think that this is because my organization of the material is superior, but it's probably more so because this method forces me to analyze and compartmentalize the material. Or let me put it this way: it'll become clear to you as soon as you've stopped writing notes that you aren't paying attention, so you'll know exactly when to go back and listen to that material again, this time paying attention. Also, you may have to pause a lot while doing this―especially if you're listening at 1.5x or 2x speed―but that's much more efficient than going through the entire recording again, and you'll fare better when you've conquered each piece of material that conceptually leads into the next. Lastly, I don't know the exact circumstances behind your recorded material, but, if possible, it could help to split up your material up, preferably in an organized fashion. For example, if a lecture audio recording encompasses 1.5 textbook chapters of material, that material ought to be split up into segments that each correspond to one of the several sections of the textbook chapter (or however they divide their shizzle). For whatever reason, splitting things up in this manner makes it easier for me to push on. It probably has less to do with the organization of the material, per se, and more to do with the fact that I feel like I keep accomplishing things in a consistent manner, akin to the "one more turn" sensation imbued within Sid Meier's Civilization games; and this sensation will only exist if you (thoroughly!) complete well-delineated sections of material spanning 20 minutes of audio, stepwise, as opposed to 2 hours of audio that span an arbitrary range of material. Also, caffeine.2 points

I don't think it's anywhere near 15% TBH. Also, when it comes to what @EastCoastDrifter said, devs rarely getting involved around here nowadays just goes to how limited the benefits of that would be - our community is not that fond of OELVNs in the first place and without chance of being featured on the frontpage, which still receives decent traffic, going beyond posting basic info about your game and maybe following with a few updates is not worth the effort, if you think about potential sales gain. Just dumping one post and never coming back might be a fairly mean thing to do, but it doesn't surprise me or seem unreasonable from the pragmatic point of view. Which doesn't change the fact that posting this kind of an unreadable mess and not even bothering to do anything about it is on another level of not giving a fuck.2 points -

Clockwork Leyline and Hoshimemo: What actually happened!
Plk_Lesiak reacted to Dreamysyu for a topic
I'm not familiar with any of their works so I won't argue with that, but what I wanted to say is that even if they edit machine translations to at least look like English, it would still cost much less and take much less time than if they hire actual translators. I've seen some light novel fan-"translations" that do exactly that. They are mostly grammatically correct, as far as my English allows me to judge, but if you try to understand what exactly is written there, most sentences simply don't make any sense.1 point -

I dunno, but let me add another one on top of it. Is there a difference between accurately making predictions about the world and really understanding how the world works? I don't know in other fields, but in physics, as soon as you have a theory that matches your experimental data and correctly predicts the result of future experiments, you are done. At least until some weird result shows up and you have to elaborate yet another theory that accounts for that particular case. Does this process ever stop? And even if it does, do you think that plugging in some numbers in an equation and getting a result is the best we human beings can hope to understand the machinery of the universe? Because all of modern physics works that way... You can only "understand" it and work with it via mathematics, where the interpretations are left as a philosofical matter. And you know... Past tells us that philosophy always tackles those questions for which science is not yet prepared. The thing is, will it ever be?1 point

How do you study?
Fiddle reacted to alden_0023 for a topic
Depends on the expected type of exam For conceptuals: I try to break down whatever I am studying into tiny bits. Then I write everything bullet style, just key words/phrases and important details. This improves my memorization and while doing so I casually make a nice little reviewer for later on. Then as I review the words, I try to remember all the needed details about the keyword. This allows me to associate the words to their details, which is important come exam time. For problem solving (math, engineering) I try to replicate solutions to sample problems, focusing on noticing problem and solution patterns. This is kinda tricky, but all problems come down to knowing which formula or technique to use. Generally, I like to study in a place where I can be comfortable, so I mostly do it while lying down on my bed. I usually study for around 30 mins at a time, with 30 mins breaks in between. My attention span is quite short so I sometimes take the 30min break to 1 hour, but it will depend on how much more material I need to study.1 point -

A lot of developers don't really see the value of getting involved in a community. A lot of them don't do much in the way of marketing, even. It takes a few games--if you last that long--before you realize that it's a privilege to be able to create and have people give you their attention. People respond well to mutual respect and grace. Poor thing really did mess up here. Not only did they get a lot of negative attention, but they also missed out on one of the great VN communities available to them.1 point

Clockwork Leyline and Hoshimemo: What actually happened!
Plk_Lesiak reacted to Nandemonai for a topic
SakuraGame sold a game that was so poorly handled, that they had simply run the whole script through Google Translate. Script commands and all. The resulting script bore only a passing resemblance to something the game's engine could actually execute, so naturally it would crash early on. I don't remember which game that was, or if it was ever fixed. But that's pretty powerful evidence that they do not, in fact, edit their work at all.1 point -

I've noticed that this has been an ongoing thing on Fuwa. Out of all the users registered here, only about 15% are active and engaging in the community, and about 3% of them are developers that actually form relationships with other users like @arosia. The remaining 85% are sadly abandoned accounts that have only made one or a couple of posts. They join Fuwa, and then disappear just as quickly. They're like ghosts.1 point -

I'm not really a fan of rating numerically any piece of media as I feel any score I could give would be off. But if you insist, I guess I would give it something between an 8 and 9 out of 10. Those two extra points correspond to the poorly paced slice of life bits and to some "plotholes" (more like things left unexplained, not really plotholes per se) that, as Dreamysyu said, could've been perfectly explained with an 1 hour more worth of reading. I should clarify that I've never rated anything in my life a 10/10, so it goes without saying that I personally consider Ever17 a really good VN Oh, and thank you for the info about Muv-Luv! Thing is, I already purchased it some time ago1 point

low effort memes in a nutshell. btw read these VNs: oh and did I told you guys I was the winner back in summer 2015 of the fuwo logo contest and some years later or maybe the same year I won the facebook banner contest. I can't remember Best waifu team btw: not a lolicon, I swear. and I did some image editing work back in the days. Did I made the last one?! seems to good to be from me...... so sorry to whomever I stole it from? Last thing I brag about is making the website for Shinku-translations and something else, but I don't know if I'm allowed to say it in public. So I won't bother. Ah you thought that was the last. Nope! I translated some doujins with my group fuwa <nazistar> fuwa translations. Google it if you want some action And don't forget that I lead the project Maki Fes! (wasn't lead tl tho, all credits to tbac) So I'm done with my bragging. I don't know how my shitpost turned into a bragging thread. But I can't complain. So what did you do for this shit community? Clockwork Leyline and Hoshimemo: What actually happened!
EastCoastDrifter reacted to Silvz for a topic
I think what @EastCoastDrifter was trying to say was this: 1 - They sell the game as it is, with bugs to fix - people unaware of this buy it 2 - They fix the release - people who were aware of the problems now buy the game, since it is "perfect". They would not profit from selling a patch, but from players who expect a complete game and wait for these patches. Then, this would be something like Assassins Creed or EA in general, where they release a "full" game, but unfinished or bugged. Butttt I have to say I don't agree with that. VNs are a niche already, so they would not profit on the long term, since they'd stain their image on doing that, at least frequently. I mean, they have nothing to gain besides having to write these updates and then actually fixing the game.1 point -
Honestly, the evident lack of interest in properly promoting their VN shows that the more readable version of the text is unnecessary.1 point

Wow a kamige right after another? You're on a roll here. If you hadn't gotten Muv Luv yet, you should get it on Steam soon because there's a 30% off sale for both Muv Luv and Muv Luv Alternative which will end on 8 March. How much would you rate Ever17? I rated it a 9 because it had some of the best plot twists I've ever seen in a vn and the ending was wrapped up nicely, even though it did take quite some time for the pace to pick up1 point
