Jptje and 7 others reacted to MaggieROBOT for a blog entry
DISCLAIMER: I didn't ask for anyone's permission before deciding who's gonna be killed here, sorry actually not sorry about that. That's a dankier representation of these guys that may or may not reflect how they are in real life. I tried to use you guys' avatar or username as base for your appearances and everyone using a cute girl avatar must now be grateful. This entire story had zero proofreading and makes zero sense. Support the official Danganronpa release if you want a quality story, and the patch for the PSP is the best version for the first game, thanks for asking. Dreamysyu wakes up in his usual third seat of the roll beside the window, the setting sun coloring their majestic white hair orange. Just with this tiny introduction we can already see how they have all the needed traits to be the Ultimate Protagonist, and that's why we're following them now. They are already used to have a narrator describing every single thought that pop in their head. "No, and please stop doing that." was what they are thinking but honestly I don't give a damn. Anyway, seeing that the school was deserted, Dreamysyu's first thought was that they overslept and missed the entirety of philosophy class, that happened to be their favorite subject but not the author's so it was natural it was skipped here. If that was the case, it was almost time for horse riding club activities with their cute kouhai. Or just the kouhai riding because they're the protagonist. But as soon as they stepped outside they noticed something. The school was deserted. Not a single soul or background character was in sight. It's almost like... they were transported to an eroge school that's only populated by the main cast. Looking outside the window, Dreamysyu saw an unnatural amount of cherry trees in full bloom in the middle of July and the ocean not far in every single direction meaning they were in some non existing island near Japan. Way too eroge. Now the kouhai riding scene seems to be even closer to their grasp. Oh yeah, but most likely there's no kouhai anymore. Why even live as a protagonist like this? Right as Dreamysyu thought at least one girl must be around and everything would go back to normal by the end of the story so no need to panic... they heard voices. More than one. Coming from the auditorium... "My harem!" wasn't what they are thinking, but I can mess with them a little bit~ Dreamysyu opened the door and found 15 other bizarre students, almost all of them somewhat angry. "Tsk, another one?" someone said. "This must be the last one." another one that played Danganronpa before answered. Despite the hostile atmosphere, and Dreamysyu hostile appearance itself, a person approaches them. A cute girl with blue twintails, that managed to stay cheerful despite everything. Well, nothing happened yet, maybe that's why. "Hiiiiiii, and welcome to the Survivors' Club!" they already decided everybody else was killed, figures. "I'm Dergonu and I'll be glad to help you if you have any questions!" Dreamysyu was ready to raise an eyebrow but stopped. Dergonu. They remember that name. They are the Ultimate Mod, someone that did so good a job as a mod that they pretty much wiped out three forums into oblivion, such was the extension of the shitposting there. So mostly likely they know some behind the scenes stuff, it wouldn't hurt to stick around them... "No, I'm the one that truly knows everything." said a bespectacled dark haired woman with a hat that I'm guessing is a beret. Wait, did they just answered the narration? "Fiddle-samaaaaaaaaaaaa!! <3" yelled Dergonu before Fiddle could yet again answer the narration. And that name explained everything. Fiddle was known as the Ultimate Mastermind, said to have manipulated dozen other fanfics Fuwa users dared to write. Dreamysyu asked if this one would be any different, and Fiddle promptly shaked his head in a no, maybe spoiling the whole thing in the first chapter. "I can, and I will." "Wow, way to ruin the mystery. As expected of someone who liked Noble Works." said angrily a white haired guy with a gas mask. Although he's also white haired and faceless to boot, he wasn't the main character, maybe because there's way too much moe around for him to care about it. Because of that display, Dreamysyu recognized him in an instant: that was VirginSmasher, the Ultimate EOP. Said to have read all english non moege VNs in a spam of a single month, the experiment clearly corrupted his soul and it shows. In fact, he was already displeased to being forced to participate of such third-rate fanfic. "1/10 VN already, if we can even call this that." Virgin wasn't the only one that was displeased, that was indeed quite enough salt in the room. But the person that said the last line takes the cake. solidbatman, the Ultimate Salt. Even the Black Sea tried to steal the title from him, and lost. They can't drop out of the story because only I can decide that, but they already rate this a 1/10 in the middle of the prologue. Sasuga, jeez. And for all effects, solidbatman looks exactly like Batman because everything is better with Batman. "D-d-don't give it such a poor score so fast! After you read all scenes and read all text, I'm sure you'll give it at least a 8! And it does improve after the third choice of the second common route!" said a horned guy, going all technical. He had a huge encyclopedia in his arms, and he seemed to be looking at it right at this moment to know what exactly he was supposed to say next. Needless to say, that could only be SeniorBlitz, the Ultimate Guide, the guy said to be the only one that read the entire "book of answers for everything" that he now holds, and not just the tl;dr version that consisted of a tiny post-it with a 42 on it. "To be fair, you have to go multiple extra playthrough to fully understand Ste... I mean, this fic." said a cool with an almost zombie expression red haired girl with an out of place christmas hat. They were pretty well know, even more now that Steins;Gate 0 is airing. "Oh, it's Kurisu-chan, the Ultimate Tsundere!" said a poor soul, asking to be berated. "It's ULTIMATE STEINS;GATE FAN! I'm not even a Tsundere, how can I even be the Ultimate one! -Taku!" and then they proceed to talk about the last episode of S;G 0 unprompted just to prove their point of being the Ultimate S;G fan. Whoever was watching it too joined the conversation eventually. "This problem here does not change the fact that we have lots of Ultimates here." said an adorable blonde girl with a magical girl outfit. littleshogun, the Ultimate Magical Girl, seemed unfazed by everyone else, probably because of their experience with weird encounters with evil forces during all of their years working as a magical girl. "The purity of this magical girl... stirs the darkness. O Old Ones, lord of tentacled infernal beasts... I hope I can hold your thirst back with these hands of mine..." calmly stated a long haired blond, majestic and evil-looking man, even if that was in no way a calm matter. Even if he said that he hopes he can hold something or other, he probably can, single handed. That was the power of Clephas, the Ultimate Chuuni. He saw things, he did things... Even the Old Ones must be scared of him at this point. "Hey hey, enough with all this weebness. Moe kids already are a bit more than what I can handle, don't include tentacles too!" said another person from the pissed crowd. They were a beautiful brunette in a wedding dress that had all the right of being pissed if this story prevented them to marry his favorite boy. Oh well. The judge of anything weeb with strong sarcasm that I will not emulate all too well, probably, the new angry person is Zander, the Ultimate Outsider. "I might add that probably a weeb that gave me my Ultimate name, I'm not outside anything. Well, maybe outside a list of people going to jail, hell or both..." "You DO know that tentacle are a common japanese trope that's almost a history class on weebness if you actually look for the origin of the correlation between Magical Girls and tentacles, right?" said a glasses guy that looked all so smart. His face screams confidence, as expected of an Ultimate, but also passion for all the knowledge he acquired in the filthy pool of weeb hobbies. That was Pl_Lesiak, the man who looked at weebness in the eyes and came back victorious. Although he likes western weeb inspired things a bit too much, that's why his title quickly changed to Ultimate Westerner. Okay now, this title seems like he did some cowboy movies, and that's precisely why I decided to give him twin pistols in this story. The reason for that can be because a lot of people thought the same and then he went "why not?", I don't know. "'Twas indeed a bloody confusion." thought the red-claded young man besides Lesiak, after he told him his tale some time during my narration. He also had a dignified air and a posture as elegant and powerful as someone doing a gentle motion to raise their dead servants with necromancy. It couldn't be anyone else other than Mr Poltroon, the Ultimate Gentleman. And if someone have a better idea of how to write a gentleman without him sounding like an old brit, be my guest. "But now everything is A-Okay!" said a bubbly blue haired maid. Dreamysyu approached them because for a moment I almost forgot to use my protagonist for anything. But was it really necessary to ask who are they? Everyone there knew Kenshin_sama, the Ultimate Isekaier. Travelling to different worlds time and time again, the world within this tale is no different, so they were actually excited to explore one more world. They used their smartphone that they got in yet another world to take a lot of photos already and post everything in Jun Inoue's thread. Without them noticing, Kurisu-chan used the chance to complain about Re:Zero for a bit. "(ᗒᗨᗕ)" said another Ultimate, agreeing with Kenshin. Not that Zander allowed themselves to understand such a weebty so alien and far from proper english. Not that the cute pink haired girl cared, they just continued going (^ω^) around. If someone asked for the name of the tiny pink haired moe, they'll probably answer (⁎˃ᆺ˂) or something, so Dreamysyu did his protagonist part and told everyone they're Kiriririri, the Ultimate Moeblob. "I'm going to vomit if the happiness mood keeps going for too long. Can we kill each other yet?" said another short girl with some curtained bangs and pink eyes, spoiling yet another plot point if we can believe Fiddle's words that they already spoiled one. Stars appeared in their eyes as soon as they said the word "murder", what made them wave around happily, knocking Senior's encyclopedia on the floor on purpose just because. The book was so thick it could have opened a hole in the floor, but I'm not letting them escape this easily, so it just made a loud sound like whatever an elephant's fart sounds like. Even if they just look like a bully for now, in fact Ranzo is the Ultimate Bastard, hellbent on destruction and everyone else's disgrace. They couldn't simply leave all the fun to Clephas, or all the hatred to batman. They wanted a time to shine, even if killing everyone else was necessary for this. It actually was necessary, so of course they were enjoying this fic, and sadly maybe they're the only one. "I must agree that some people here are way too happy, even though everyone in school suddenly vanished and we're now trapped in a cheap imitation of the facility in some weird island and..." he actually said 34 more lines, but let's cut to the chase, shall we? tymmur, the Ultimate Orator, also had issues with how slow this story was going. Said to have recited the whole bible, Rewrite and France Shoujo before breathing in again, he looked like a wise old man in a glittered rainbow shirt that would totally be followed by some slave lolis if those still existed in the school. Well, there's Kiri, but I digress. "How horrible! How could a nice guy do something like this?" though the reader, but you need not worry. He's actually pretty nice with shotas, especially if they hook up with other shotas, he's just like this with 2D prostitute lolis that aren't protected by any 3D law. "For the sake of my sanity, I'll disagree." said Zander, what prompted tymmur to say another 67 lines, but since this chapter is almost over I'll skip it again. "Pardon my interruption of thy argument, sir, but I'm afraid we are not alone in this school..." said Poltroon, with a fierce expression of wanting to draw his sword if he had one. An annoying nihihi echoed through the room and it was coming... from the monitor on the wall that suddenly went on with a stream! "I see your all getting along! Yay! Welcome to the..." "*You're." Fiddle corrected before the naked girl could utter another mistake. Still feeling bad, eventually they introduced themselves as Mitchnomi, a 1/3 bear, a 1/3 rabbit, a 1/3 comic relif, all bad. They are doing the role of Monomi so naturaly they got shooed away not long after by the students. "KYAAAAAAAAAA!" screamed the rabbit girl, that apparently got shooed away in the other side of the monitor too. "...Can we just pretend this didn't happen and go back to... whatever was happening in the story?" batman asked and then everyone remembered what Poltroon said. It was really just about Mitchnomi? For once, everyone shut up and paid attention to the surrounding sounds. Something... was coming from the corridor. A stupid laugh soon echoed. "Upupupu... Pupupu... Upupupupupu!" "Da fuck is this?" is what Dreamysyu should have asked at the very beginning of the story. "Upupupu... Upupupwahahahahahahaha!" the laugh got even louder. Well, of course, the person laughing just entered the room, flames erupting behind them for whatever epic reason. Ranzo found it amazing and set fire to the curtain too. Clephas wanted to summon some things too, but decided against because it was still too early in the story for final boss moments. "Who... are you?" asked Dergonu, hoping for something not stupid. "Bitch please, who else could I be? The one and only, powerful and sexy, MAGGIEKUMA!" "I am not seeing a bear here." littleshogun pointed to the pretty boy that's now in front of the kids. They had white hair and black clothes so it totally fits the mono part of the name, even the 2B plushie they're carrying fits, but noooo I had to pick the kuma part. You can all agree with me that Monomaggie doesn't sound just as good. "Who caaaaaaaaaaaaaaares if I'm not a bear! Moe is the new thing, so hopefully pretty boys are here to stay." Maggiekuma explained why they decided to stick with the 9S in their avatar and not 2B. "They will, if you choose the second choice and then the fourth after [SPOILERS] dies! That way, you'll rule the world and make everyone likes whatever you want" Senior just gave me a dangerous but awesome idea. "∠(^ー^)" Kiri doesn't seem to mind. "Good thing I didn't have any expectation for this story." Virgin already gave up. "But you can end all of this... Killing everyone!" dramatic close up in Maggiekuma's face. "All according to the keikaku!" said Ranzo with a grim, even if they didn't really have a fucking plan. NEXT TIME: The rules of the deathgame and... Someone dies! But that's a twist!8 points -

My experiences using JPN TL software and web translators to TL JPN VNs

What's wrong with that? It's merely an abbreviation, like how I call my pals from Germany Germs. There's nothing wrong with MTL. Learning Japanese is a time-consuming, arduous task with minuscule payoff and little to no professional or vocational benefits. Not everybody wants to invest so great a portion of their life into learning a language solely for the consumption of visual novels. There's also nothing wrong with that. As long as nobody attempts to disseminate their MTL or pass it off as a translation project, there is no issue whatsoever. Please take your Japanese fetishism and elitism elsewhere, Kiriririri.5 points

My experiences using JPN TL software and web translators to TL JPN VNs
Ashley Horizon and 3 others reacted to tymmur for a topic
I didn't say anything about VN haters. My main point is that there are people in the VN community, which praises MT and assume it can do stuff it can't. My point is that MT has a tendency to not only has a tendency to skip details, but also make up stuff. In other words using MT on a VN will result in a rewritten story, one where no human has looked at it for continuity or anything. If it's a new story made up based on CGs and written by somebody who cares, then there is a chance it will have a continuing story between the lines and scenes. The main reason for my reaction here is not that I want to ban you from using MT if you really want to. I would not recommend it, but I won't try to convince you or ban you from doing so. The issue I have with this is encouraging other people to use MT. There are claims that you can get decent quality if you do it right and you will never suffer from titles not being translated and stuff like that. Claims like that are completely false and they serve mainly to trick people into thinking they start doing the right thing when they start to figure out how to use MT. Many people who believe it will start using MT and eventually regret it, calling it a complete waste of time. In other words praise of MT can arguably be called a scam, which end up wasting time for people. I think it comes down to something else as well, which is editing. I read text before and after editing and here I made an important realization. The content was the same (more or less), but the edited script had become way more interesting to read. It's not just what it says, but particularly how it says it, which results in the reading pleasure. In other words even if the MT gets the translation down sort of ok, the editing will be awful, which will hurt the reading pleasure. MT can do a decent job if your task is to figure out say a manual for some software you try to figure out. It will not work well if you want anything with reading pleasure.4 points -
SRPG eroge Venus Blood Frontier to get an English Kickstarter
Darklord Rooke and 2 others reacted to sanahtlig for a topic
I prepared a few basic questions: What led you to choose Venus Blood Frontier over the many other excellent titles that Ninetail has released over the years? Venus Blood Frontier contains a great deal of sexual content. Why Kickstarter and Steam rather than platforms that are more friendly to adult content (see Crowdfunding sites for Adult Content)? You mentioned that the game would be released on Steam with a patch to restore the adult content. What would be the timing of this patch and how would it be distributed? Other Kickstarter projects have made similar promises but have disappointed (e.g., 8 months after MuvLuv Alternative was released on Steam there's still no adult content patch). Ability to complete the proposed project on time and while meeting quality standards is always a concern on Kickstarter. What experience does the project staff have with localization projects and crowdfunding in general? Early rumors have suggested that a single staff member will be performing multiple roles that are typically distributed among a team of specialists for a project of this size. If true, does this staff member have prior experience in each of these roles? What is the contingency plan if this staff member becomes overwhelmed? Success on Kickstarter depends as much on marketing and publicity as it does on a great product. How does Ninetail plan to reach and appeal to the various fanbases (e.g., of strategy RPGs, visual novels, and ero) that might be interested in this product? A small number of generous contributors typically account for a large share of crowdfunding proceeds. What sort of exclusive rewards do you have planned to appeal to these "super-fans"? A fan translation of Venus Blood Chimera was released in January 2018. What is your attitude towards this project, and to fan translation projects in general? Backers of crowdfunding projects tend to be fans interested in the future of the company moreso than just the success of a given project. If Venus Blood Frontier succeeds, what next?3 points -

Nowhere did I say or imply that MTL is accurate or representative of the actual source material; please do not put words in my mouth or make assumptions. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that it isn't. My point was simply that if somebody wants to read it, and is happy with the result, then it's perfectly fine. Do you intend to bash me if I want to read a machine translation of Relaxation Yuka En ~Hitozuma Therapist ni Yoru Sentai~ (NSFW) because I can't fully immerse myself in the accurate source material or understand the deep, philosophical subtext and undertones? I personally don't have any intention of learning Japanese, as I do not have an interest in it or the culture of Japan or Japanese products, etc; but neither do I read machine translations, for reference. Yes, machine translated products are universally crap. I completely agree with you, and I would not want them to held as representative of the genre either. Which is why I specifically said... You seem to be misinterpreting my statements, or otherwise inventing positions I do not hold. There is no way for a MTL to be held as representative of the genre, as you were insisting I supported, if it is purely for personal use and is not disseminated nor used it as a "translation project". I specifically said that MTLs should not be spread to others, and you proceed to lambaste me for encouraging MTL "crap" to be spread and making false claims that it is quality. ??? With all that aside, localisation companies often produce crap and it ends up as representative of the genre regardless. I wouldn't be surprised if an edited MTL ended up better than the professional result of Hoshimeme. I have great respect for you, Tymmur, so I will concede to you here as I am sure you are correct. I apologise for my hastiness. I don't personally claim I don't have the time to study Japanese. I do, as do most people; I just have no desire to do so.2 points

I see this whole post as one big cry for help and I understand, I really do. Sometimes, life is a overturned piss pot. The dreams we had as children are scorched and broken by the cruel earth. Love, something we should treasure, instead serves only as a jumping off point for the most brutal acts of man. Well, that and Hallmark cards. Whether it's the love of a woman, a man, or a superb Philly Cheese Steak, the ending will be the same. Silence and screams will be the ending of your song. What of friendship you ask? Your, poor dried lips barley ache out that tawdry tune. Friendship is a lie, that one anime lied to you, every anime lied to you. There is no power in it. Your friends don't actually care for you, they will only deceive you in the end. It's best for you accept oblivion and embrace the void. Only there will you find true compassion and honesty. Achieve the shit, and have a toilet day.2 points -

Wolf Tails (western VN review)
phantomJS reacted to Plk_Lesiak for a blog entry
Visual novels with the possibility to choose the protagonist’s gender are fairly rare, and genre's focus on storytelling and romance makes such a gimmick especially hard to pull off properly. Creating games like Loren: The Amazon Princess, with an option to choose between two full-fledged leads, one male and one female, each with their own personality and a set of romance options, takes a lot of work and only fits certain kinds of stories. On the other hand, VNs in which gender choice only changes minor details in the dialogue and the overall storyline struggle to make the narrative convincing – especially in the female version, which more often than not comes as an afterthought, created by slightly modifying the default, male scenario. Razzart Visual, the author behind highly-regarded yuri VNs Love Ribbon and Starlight Vega, is also the person responsible for two much less critically-acclaimed ecchi games, both of which featured female love interests and the ability to choose protagonist’s gender, making them in a way both classical romance VNs and yuriges. On May 4th 2018, Razzart's third game in this formula, Wolf Tails, was released on Steam, featuring romance scenario with a rarely-seen kemonomimi variant, that is wolfgirls, and a new artstyle. How does it compare to Razz’s previous projects and does it succeed in working both as a traditional eroge, and as a yuri game? Read the full article at evnchronicles.blogspot.com1 point -

To side-step the usual machine translation debate, it's useful to distinguish between the 'hooking' feature of these tools and the 'translation' or 'dictionary look-up' features. Also, the relative "quality" of machine translation isn't a feature of Translation Aggregator, but rather a function of which machine translator you use. These tools often give the user multiple options to choose from. Most people who use machine translation agree that ATLAS provides the best result. Whether that 'best result' is sufficient to satisfy a given user is a different matter and sort of beside the point.1 point

Well, this is a moderated forum that has the right to ban any content or discussions they wish to. They also includes silencing and banning users. That is a right they also have. Facebook is doing the same to some of it's users for a different opinion. While I do not agree with it, they have that right as a private company. There are many sites and forums out there that ban political and religious discussions because of all the trolling and hate speech which gets out of hand. I think it is a good idea on a forum like this that has nothing to do with politics or religion.1 point

As for the sex scenes, from my observation at Hitomi CG number it'll be at least around 5 per heroines. Since we have 4 heroines, obviously it mean that we'll have at least 20 scenes in Wagahigh (I need to check it through Sagaoz save later, so it might be wrong). As for whether the scenes were too much or not, I think 20 scenes is still within average number for recent moeges, moreso if we remember that Amatarasu Riddle Star (Another moege) did have 31 scenes. I'm going to edit this post and add in some more ramblings on Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth I'm really enjoying this VN, and it feels like a long and fun journey with a lot of twists and turns, and a whole lot more besides. It... It really feels like a visual novel. That's not really the best description considering it actually is a visual novel (durrr ) but like, it's encapsulating the sense of wonder, mystery, and "just one more page" that I've gotten from some of my favorite novel series (Harry Potter for example, but also the Mistborn Trilogy and the Moontide Quartet) - on the days I can read, I wind up reading and reading and reading (I just got off of doing just over 3 hours straight of reading, which is something I don't usually do) and I already want to continue. It's becoming a case of "just one more scene" or "one more battle". The nice thing is that I'd often feel like a day like that would be wasted because I wind up doing little else, but that's not the case here. As for the visual parts, I keep noticing one thing in particular - the backgrounds. They consistently wind up being really pretty to look at, and I'd say they add to the atmosphere and make it a lot easier to be immersed into the events. The CGs are also quite nice (though I would say they aren't as frequent as I'd like), and the visual polish extends to things like the glowing auto-mode icon and the character sprites. It all makes the VN a looker and I think I'll miss that aspect of it more than I realize when I'm done with it. I'd been a bit concerned that it'd lose some of the charms of Mask of Deception, but those worries have been unfounded. For example Between that and scenes like there's a lot of fun and laughter to be had, and the scenes wind up being memorable and making me care about the characters more and more. As before, the supporting cast is really solid too, thanks to the above, and they all have places where they get to shine. It comes across as the kind of group you want to be a part of because there'll always be something going on and some solid companionship, but at the same time you kind of don't because some of the things they get into are just so ridiculous :D. I really don't know how they manage to make the characters shine so much, but for such a large cast, they all are different, and don't feel like fillers. One great example of this was another great scene I read today, where I also like how the additions and improvements have been sprinkled in here and there. Battles, for example, are harder and longer, but there are more options and yet they remain familiar so it doesn't feel like you're being thrown into the deep end. I also like the additions of things like Even the UI for selecting your next scene has been improved. I'm not sure how far along I am in it, but I'm really enjoying the time that I've spent in this VN. It really is a wonderful read, and between it and Mask of Deception, it'll be hard for anything to take their spot as second place for best game / VN played / read this year. Thanks! Means I can go into it with high expectations :D. I've tried to stay away from learning about the VN so the comparison helps a lot. Pity about the character though... And yeah it does seem like it'd be hard to make a character quite as magnetic as Kurisu. She is a really well done character. Cannot wait to read it :D. Congrats! Best route of the VN IMO and Rin really stands out in it. Also you could go back and watch the anime before/after watching Fate/Zero. It's obviously going to be the same story, but the animation is gorgeous and the battle scenes are done really nicely. Plus it has one of the best scenes in the entire VN : Yeah... Heaven's Feel is... Heaven's Feel is... Uhhh... *shudders* Y'know, I've been wondering for a while and may as well just ask. Someone in a recommendation thread mentioned there being "almost too many H-scenes" in this. Are... Are there really THAT many?1 point -

Got caught up with Comic Girls and this latest episode's new character was pretty funny, especially Kaos' reactions to her, kind of reminds me of Nekozawa from Ouran. Also liked how in the second half they actually followed up on that little reveal with the teacher in the last episode. Also watched the latest episode of Hinamatsuri, first half was as funny as I expected, while the second half...wow that's a Nat 20 hit to the feels. Got me really invested in seeing what happens to Anzu next episode. So glad I waited till after I got home from work to watch this episode or this would have been me:1 point -
I just bought this when it came out, I'm a sucker for wolf girl's what can I say? I still have yet to play it but I'm glad it's gotten a good review from you. However, I'm a bit peeved that you reviewed it before I got a chance to though, so you better find some way of rectifying* the situation. * Rectify, that means fix it baby.1 point

OOoops! Are you telling me that every time I ripped off all the legs of a grasshopper and stuck it in an ant pile or spiders web I was doing a bad thing? But yeah, I really liked Rin's character through her route and Lancer was truly a great bro. Get ready for the third route though, it's gonna be a doozy. So I'm still stuck on Kyou's route in Hatsukoi and, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, they actually used a condom during her sex scene. I think this is the first time I've seen a condom appear in a Visual Novel? It's mind blowing! Holy shit! Also, this is straight up terrifying1 point

From time-to-time, I enjoy rewatching parts of the game. Plus, it doesn't require as much concentration as it would if I was playing it fresh. Outside of the home, you should always be alert for other things around you... especially when you're using an office computer to watch VNs.1 point

Thank you for your consideration. I actually have some go-to fan artists that I can turn to if necessary, so I'm not without options. I just took this opportunity to reach out to the community a bit and also get some feeback on the idea itself (I take the intensity of the shit-puns as a positive reaction... Of sorts. ;p). It would be much less fun to just commission it quietly from someone on deviantART.1 point -
My experiences using JPN TL software and web translators to TL JPN VNs
VirginSmasher reacted to tymmur for a topic
Here is the thing. Setting up MT is not instant. There are multiple options and then you have to learn how to read the result, which in itself is a learning process. To get good quality (and here I use good in very relative terms), the word on the net is to use Atlas. You then have to make one dictionary for each VN. You add the names as names, apply gender and stuff like that. You are also supposed to add words often used in VNs, but not present in Atlas by default (mainly H scene words). Next you need to configure some line changing stuff to make the lines more readable for Atlas. By the time you reached what is supposedly claimed to be acceptable MT level, if you had spent the same amount of time on ITH+TA+jparser and studied Japanese grammar, you would likely have ended up with the ability to read Japanese on a level where you have a decent chance of beating MT on quality and unlike MT, you have a chance to improve by just reading more. If you claim you don't have the time to study Japanese to even reach this level, then apparently you don't have the time to set up MT or even read VNs either.1 point -
It's a derogatory term. If you're using it as an abbreviation, you should either be using all caps (JAP) or a period (Jap.), and should only be doing that in cases where condensing the text is important (like Twitter). When you are writing full sentences, as here, you should strive to avoid using abbreviations, especially when those abbreviations are also epithets. There is a great deal wrong with machine translation, starting with the translation. You may end up with a rough understanding of what you are 'reading', but little to no understanding of detail, subtext, or (in many cases) context. You might as well ask for someone on the forum to give you a one page summary of the visual novel; it'll be more accurate, and better written as well. Learning Japanese is time consuming, but not difficult. I suggest you try it. But if you don't want to take the time to learn the language, that's fine. But please do not pretend that random words strung together by a machine trained on 2ch posts is representative of the actual source material. Half humor, but "Friends don't let friends read Machine Translations". Machine translated products are universally crap. Many of us who like visual novels would prefer that crap not be held out as representative of the genre. Not to mention, the only thing that is more of a waste of time than trying to discuss a visual novel with someone that read a machine translation is trying to discuss it with someone who hasn't read it at all. His comment it isn't "Japanese fetishism" or "elitism" or any other insult you can hurl. It's a sense of humor, combined with the basic understanding that what you are doing is not going to produce the best results, or even good ones. If all you want is crap, that's up to you. But don't go around making false claims like "there is nothing wrong with machine translations", and trying to spread that crap to others.1 point

My experiences using JPN TL software and web translators to TL JPN VNs
phantomJS reacted to Weiterfechten for a topic
FYI there are settings in Yomichan which allow you to make the translation appear by just hovering over it, I think the default key is shift (?). Also Yomichan is sometimes bad at detecting the word hovered over, making no translation appear, but if you stick to it long enough I have found that just trying to detect it over and over again works (or looking at a word on a website to activate (?) it). Yeah I wouldn't call it ideal, especially if you have no interest in learning JP grammar or vocab, but it works, especially if you on the other hand know your grammar fairly ok and have some decent vocab, then you can start to see the process speeding up (due to you having to look at the translation less and less). If all you need it for is to look up some one-off word it is particularly good, I've found. I don't know about Translation Aggregator, but if you have found it good, it might be the best option out there for those who are just looking to enjoy a VN without perhaps doing the whole learning JP thing. Like you said Chiitrans is outdated (and most likely gone forever, since there doesn't seem to be any signs of it being updated) and VNR a mess.1 point -

VirginSmasher reacted to Dreamysyu for a topic
I tried to read Little Busters ME in the past using ITH and TA (did VNR even exist back then? It was in 2013-2014, I think) I finished one route that way, and never tried to use a machine translator to read VNs ever since. The text was basically unreadable, I didn't get any enjoyment from it, and the funniest part was when different machine translators gave me almost opposite results. Like, I remember there was one sentence where the subject and the object of some action were literally replaced in different versions. Yeah, I know the technologies got better with time, but it's still far from perfect, from what I've seen. Jp parser, one the other hand, is pretty cool.1 point -

Well, it's not like I can't understand why you would feel this way, people can be very judgemental. I'll bring this up to the director but we are having talks with other sales platforms and we'll see if we can come to an understanding with company V to release on like, Jlist or something. Also, there is something I want to confirm with the director that might skirt by this steam thing, and that has something to do with backer rewards on KS, but no guarantees unfortunately. will update you guys. I appreciate the feedback, guys. I must say, I'm almost a bit embarrassed at my TL quality back when I first joined as an intern. I'll definitely be going through everything once the, well, 'raw' translations are over and done with, and probably edit it to make it more...readable, so to speak? And the tenses are a problem I am aware of and plan to fix before release. Hopefully I don't miss any... Considering the current situation at our company, it'll probably end up being self editing after all is done. I'll look through the images, thanks for the help. By the way, guys, most of the stuff here is technically off the record. If you want concrete answers or rather, official ones, please direct them to twitter or when the prefundia/kickstarter page is up. Most of what I answer here does not necessarily mean that all of ninetail thinks that way, and could be tainted by my own bias or misunderstandings of the goings on behind the scenes. I'd appreciate it if you took my words more as a...personal prediction moreso than an official announcement. I do very much appreciate your advice and feedback, but please wait for official announcements by the official twitter, or on prefundia, or kickstarter and such! Thanks. Well, I mean, feedback and advice is no problem, but please direct questions at the official twitter, thanks! Edit: Also I got a warning from my boss that I may indeed be breaking NDA by revealing too much information here, so I'll probably be abstaining from posting anything more on this thread. Please direct any questions or inquiries at the official twitter, thanks! If you want to talk to me personally or have feedback and or advice, a private message on twitter would work, so please make use of that!1 point -

This is actually really valuable feedback. It's the sort of "silent majority" opinion that could very easily fly under the radar yet be very important. Privacy concerns are a major pitfall of trying to sell eroge on Steam. Not everyone wants to broadcast their interest in this genre to the world. That's yet another reason to make this game available on at least one other platform, bringing the tally to at least 3 (no-fuss adult version that doesn't require a patch / isn't pretending to be something it isn't, could enable a release without mosaics, respect for privacy concerns).1 point -

I bash multiple countries once in a while, sometimes countries I have never been to. However it has to be based on facts and be justified. For instance Russia traffic laws are crazy and allows maniacs. You have to exceed 80 km/h (50 mph) in residential areas before you can get a speeding ticket. I consider that to be horrible from a safety point of view. I don't fear upsetting Russians with this bashing though because they generally agree and hate the laws regarding speed limits. If we truly live in "the free world", we should be free to speak up about stuff like this. According to The art of the deal, you have to be unpredictable or the opponent will predict your next move and counter it before you make the move. Trump is intentionally unpredictable in order to get a better position in negotiations. Trump is well prepared. He has armed forces in the area, lots of allies, UN support and trade embargo. He has said he is communicating with Russia and China about the issue in order to gain their support as well. Some democrats have stated that NK tricks the US each time they make a deal. Trump has stated this time will be different. Either it's a good deal for America or no deal. NK is in another position. All countries seems to have sided with America. They lack oil, weapons, food.... well basically everything. Failing to reach an agreement can be the reason America needs to justify an attack (NK refuse to stop being a threat). Trump can afford to not get an agreement, KJU can't and it would appear that Trump has planned that setup and possibly worked on it ever since he was elected. Considering how well Trump seems to have planned this, odds are that he will not screw up now that he succeeded and he knows he succeeded.1 point
