  1. Yeah, let's single people out and make fun of them. Real mature. Especially when you have no evidence that this person is in any way responsible for the issues with the game (hint: they aren't).

  3. Translation: we based the translation on the console version and added the H scenes to the 18+ release. We didn't bother to check if there are other differences between those two versions than just the presence of H scenes. When we put the versions together, nobody playtested the translated 18+ version and compared it to the Japanese original. Ok, it will be patched (presumably) and hopefully everything will be fine. You could argue that most of the VN is ok, but remember either you buy the more expensive 18+ version or you buy the $15 18+ DLC. In other words you pay $15 for nudity and then they forgot to add a significant part of the nudity. That's just not ok at all. I guess I have to keep waiting. I don't feel like either paying for or playing an unfinished VN.

  4. Confession: I'm strangely hyped(?) for Maggot Baits. Which makes little sense, as guro was never really my thing (at least the hentai part of it, I liked the over-the-top anime gore quite a lot in the past, before I got into SoL stuff so much), but I like the premise and the overall aesthetic to the point I really want to see the whole thing, just to know what it is like. I wonder if I'll regret it by the end...

  8. Same here. This game deserves better treatment. I'm actually pissed off at SP for their constant late incompetency regarding western vn releases. How many times are they planning to repeat the same exact mistakes? At times it feels like a bunch of kids running a company, rather than adult people.

    Fuwanovel Confessions

Confession. I know I get depressed and down and out about things but I've got a pretty decent life. I've got some friends and people who love and care about me which is more than some people before me have. I'm alone right now but I'm a pretty good looking guy with a "interesting" personality and a absolutely stellar taste in music. I guess what I'm looking for is a woman who can make a smart decision and choose me for me.

    Fuwanovel Confessions

The sea contains dangers much more sinister than "safe if you can reach the bottom". You need to know about rip tides and how they can affect the beach you are at. To put it simple, when high tide ends, the water has to go somewhere and it's out into the ocean. If the bottom acts as a wall, the water will flow out through holes in the barrier. This can create currents so strong that no human can swim against them and if you are caught, you are flushed out. If that happens, you need to try to circle around it and see if you can get in next to it rather than through it. If this is caused by rock formations, they can be fairly predictable. Sand on the other hand moves around and a rip tide might not be at the same location two days in a row. There are other dangers as well. For instance boats and ships. Apart from the obvious getting hit by reckless tiny boats near the beach, big ships can be an issue as well. A ship creates waves. One at the front where it pushes water to both sides, essentially plowing through the water and one from the rear where the propeller is active. Those two waves can travel for several minutes before hitting a beach where they will be noticed as two waves, which are noteworthy stronger than the other waves. There are actually speed restrictions for ships in place in order to protect beaches from this issue. Once in a while a ship is caught speeding. When the wind goes towards land, all the water will flow inwards. However it doesn't stack up on the beach, meaning it has to go out again. In some cases it will do this at the bottom, meaning if you stick your legs too deep, they can be caught in a current flowing outwards despite the water visibly flowing inwards. Does this mean entering the water is reckless? I will compare it to driving a car. There are dangers, but if you know them and know how to avoid them, then it's not a huge issue. If you don't know about the dangers or rules and just do something, it can become unacceptably dangerous. A quick google search tells that in California, 58k were rescued and 60 drowned. It doesn't explicitly say how long it took to make those statistics, but numbers I have seen earlier indicates that it's likely in a single year. Australia had 74 who drowned in 2016 while taking a recreational swim. If you plan to get into the water, I recommend you do some research on rip tides first.

  13. I'll say this first off... this game actually needed locked paths or a true ending. Like most Windmill games, the character interactions are pretty heavily reliant on easygoing manzai humor and running character personality and behavior jokes (in fact, most VN humor is based on that). This game has a cast of four writers (one amateur, one h-scene specialist, and two established names), including Imashina Rio (Gin'iro Haruka and Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai) and Kagami Yuu (ef, Eden*, and Mirai Nostalgia). Unfortunately, the styles of the two main writers are extremely different, and it is rather blatant when things shift... sometimes in the middle of scenes (this can be jarring and disturbs the flow at times). Understand, I started out liking this game... I like non-city settings (for some reason, city locales always end up being multi-date ichaicha fests even for heroines who wouldn't be interested in that kind of thing), and the interactions with the heroines and side-characters were amusing. I even still liked how things were going early in my first heroine path (Serina), but after I headed into a second path, it became apparent they were abusing the 'osananajimi is scared of friend group falling apart' trope. Oh, the way they abused it is different in each path, but the abuse is so rampant that I had to wince. Worse, the characters have these pretty much useless powers that only work on each other. All the paths have the powers as part of the central conflict, but, considering how little the characters seemed to care about their powers in the common route (one way or the other) it felt unnatural how they became central in the actual heroine routes. Understand, I'm a fantasy freak, so characters having powers is (of course) fine with me... what bothered me was the artificial-feeling limitations and the way the characters so blithely accepted a revelation midway through the path that would have turned most games a bit gloomy. Again, what's worse is that this was seemingly only utilized conveniently to explain why the other girls (all of whom are latently in love with the protagonist) stop pursuing him once you get on a particular heroine path. I will say the way they did it was mildly funny (the pseudo-yuri in Himari's path was lol-worthy for instance), but it felt very, very forced to me. Another issue is that Rinka is rather blatantly the main heroine (the scene I mentioned above makes that very clear). As a result, all the other paths proceed without resolving the issue of just why that certain event and the issues it brought to the surface came into being. Of course, as a result, Rinka's path is a very obvious 'true path' and blows away all the others in terms of quality (and length), drawing on elements from the other paths that hinted around the edges about what is revealed in Rinka's path. Anyone who plays this game should either only play Rinka's path or play the other paths first (like I did). While the paths other than Rinka's have some serious issues (the biggest one being choppy pacing and poor use of the setting elements and plot devices), Rinka's path and the common route are definitely worth playing. Sadly, I can't recommend this one for VN of the Month, but if you want a mildly funny plot-centric charage (yes, they coexist at times), this is a decent choice.

  14. Confession: I desperately want to avoid getting my driver's license, but I can't keep putting this off. College starts again in about a month and I no longer have anyone available to drive me there. I'd much rather take a bus, but sadly the nearest stop is right at my destination. Guess I just need to suck it up. Doesn't help I need to take a 4-hour safety course to get a damn permit in Florida.
