I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER HOW LONG AGO: Not even time travel saved tymmur, but it's not like Dreamysyu, VirginSmasher and Zander would give up so fast! After finding a whopping amount of 1 (one) clue, our heroes started marching to the court room. After whatever won the poll, our heroes finally reached a red velvet room, decorated with golden statues and chains. An extravagant atmosphere, that also made everyone dizzy, just like Ranzo's ego. Speaking of the Devil, he just started singing a Velvet Underground song. Back to the room's interior, we could also see a circle of golden platforms in the exact middle of the room, an arrangement that permitted them to see everyone else should they step behind the platforms. Well, not "should", "must", they have to do it, to save America, or whatever other noble reason. Maggiekuma's throne was located closer to the corner, in a higher ground where it was possible to see everything the plebeians bellow were doing. "Sooooooo, you guys are finally here!" said Maggiekuma, savoring some popcorn. "And whose fault is it, that we're this late?" we can count on batman to rub salt on other people's wound. "Okay, look, I already waste half a screen worth of space with that poll, so let's drop the issue about my lateness! Dreamysyu put his protagonism to good use. "Oh right, we should honour the bugger." Poltroon said in a dignified way, almost contradicting his behaviour in the last chapter. "You say that like we're disrespecting him, but these bunch of lines we're saying that never ends is a nice shout out to the fella." justified Fiddle. "Now that's what I call a fantastic homage!" agreed Ranzo, even though deep down they thought that their performance of Fucking Wizard by Reverend Bizarre that was edited out of the story to not split the audience due to musical differences was better. After some *insert meme and oversimplified explanation of hacker doing stuff* in a laptop that Maggiekuma lent to them, Dergonu turned back to his friends with a sullen expression. "The Punishment time is on the house! And I prepared some pretty cool Visual Novel style execution!" Saying that, Maggiekuma took an old grimoire whose cover was covered in a cat's hide. The Legendary Nekonomicon. It seems Senior's soul is still trapped in the courtroom, as the lame puns are out of control. Cutting off one of their finger and pouring the blood over the cursed book's page, Maggiekuma summoned Dergonu's executioner. "Who's better to punish bad Dergonu than the very own Empress of the Banished Lands?" In the next moment. The sky suddenly went dark. They were indoors, but they noticed it through a TV that Maggiekuma turned on in that instant or something. But the reason for that suddenly invaded the courtroom too. Wasps. A fuck ton of them. Their buzzing was quite loud, almost looking like they were omegaloling at the characters' misery. The characters that had closer ties with Hell knew what were those wasps. The poster boys (boys is even the right word here?) of the Banished Lands, the symbol of the Queen. And indeed, short after, she appeared. The High Mistress Neko, the Ultimate Catgirl. Clad in a beautiful samurai armor and carrying a giant samurai sword, she was danger incarnate. She also had massive breasts that were in fact just two gigantic spherical bombs just to be even more dangerous. She approached Dergonu with a smile on her face, the wasps flying around her now buzzing a chorus latin song to be even more chuuni. "Ahaha, so you're the boy who needs some punishment?" she asked in a voice that almost made you want to be punished. "Only if you don't be gentle with me." Well, apparently Dergonu DID wanted to be punished. "Desu wa~" said the Neko Queen in gratuitous japanese that didn't really make any sense here. "So, time to...!" [The content of Dergonu's execution was considered too extreme for Fuwa rules, so I removed it according. I count with the help of fans to restore this content! Thanks for the comprehension! Actually no, fuck you.] Even if the guroing was lazily cut, I didn't rewrite the scars it left in the other guys that lived and watched everything in horror. Although Ranzo did like the violent style of the High Mistress, so they actually took some notes of things to copy when they eventually tries to kill someone. It will be censored all the same to be honest. Eventually the Neko Samurai walked away with her wasp companions, what left our heroes begging for it to be just a dream. "Let me guess, you'll copy that 'Dreamysyu woke up in their usual seat blah blah blah' again next time, right?" now even Dreamysyu is snarking at me. NEXT TIME: Two more down, thirteen to go. What awaits our heroes next? "Hopefully not another long ass waiting again!" Virgin released one last drop of poison.

Bandaid is just a different kind of mosaic. Just add badaid removal to your current patch. It's not like anybody will go "remove the mosaic, but keep the bandaid". We should be careful not to set a standard of bloating the number of patches. It does however make sense to keep the demosaic and restoration patches as two patches, partly because the goals differs (genital visuals vs bugfix), partly practical reasons because they are made by different people. It's much easier to release an updated patch if you don't have to coordinate with anybody else. And yes it would be nice to remove the bandaid. Granted it's not as lewd as whatever gets the demosaic treatment, but it's still an eyesore. We all know that's not how people take baths and it's added purely to annoy us. Considering the angle, the view without a bandaid will most likely end up being more cute than lewd, which is fine.

I think the connection is clear. Popularity means more sales and more sales means more money. And the quality of a product is almost always directly connected to the available money. High quality games like The Witcher 3 or GTA5 weren't just created with air and love. Just for The Witcher 3, there were more than a thousand people involved in development, design, QA and marketing. And currently, one of the main problems is that most VN developers have a very tight budget due to overall low sales. It's usually enough for some sprites, a few backgrounds and most important nowadays - the H-scenes. But a good story VN needs a lot more stuff drawn. A typical moege has maybe up to ten drawn characters. But good story VN's like Kara no Shojo, Fate, MuvLuv Alternative or G-Senjou can easily have 40 or even more. And you need a lot more event CG's for a good story VN than for a simple moege - and event CG's are expensive. And expansive story VN's usually also take a lot more than just a year to develop. There's a reason why games like Fate or MuvLuv Alternative with a huge amount of special effects and characters aren't done anymore. And it goes without saying that lots of money gives you the opportunity to hire the best artists, writers, translators and editors. TypeMoon would probably be the only VN developer with the possibility to make a REALLY high budget VN. Apparently they made about 2 billion dollars revenue with Fate Grand Order in two years. That makes even games like The Witcher 3 look like small fry in comparision. Unfortunately, TypeMoon doesn't exactly look like they ever want to go back to pure VN's again. So that's that. MangaGamer actually had an all ages site, but it was apparently used very rarely and they therefore decided to make Steam their All Ages store front.

If i'm not wrong, there is about a 3 month or so gap in between Nekopara Extra and 1(Haven't actually read it yet). So i'm looking at the cover, and I realize. There is a 3 month gap between lewdable Coconut(using her as an example), and non-lewdable Coconut. 3 Fucking months. My mind is in shambles. Does this make lewding "young" Coconut ok? Does it make lewding "old" Coconut wrong??? Chocola and Vanilla look 6 years old for fucks sake. And Kashou is balls deep in them 3 months later. Imagine Kashou's home, and thinking about how cute those little girls are, and finding out he is in a sexual relationship with them 3 months later. You are absolutely right. We can't make story heavy VNs popular, but we can get somebody else to do it for us. That's our only hope.

i dont really see any reason why hobibox would or even should care about it, like it´s clear as day their version is primarily targeted at chinese speaking people, with its enrish pendant, well, might call it some low-effort throw-in at best. guess quality (in case the chn-tl wont suck) goes where the most money´s at. or in other words, if hobibox believes translating their titles in any other language apart from chinese isnt worth the hassle, so be it.

That's a number of good arguments. It seems like it comes down to a definition issue of "more popular". I was thinking changed number of sales while you point out effects, which would require a complete gamechanger. Apparently for once I did not think big enough. Sadly that's not true. If they profit to allow spending $20k more on development, they still won't do it unless they expect to earn more than $20k extra on the improvement itself. If they sell a million copies as base and a million and 5 due to increased quality, they end up paying $4k for each extra sale, which is a loss. Now if half of the customers would refuse to buy unless they spend the extra $20k, then it would be like you just stated. However sadly that's not how it works in real life. Just look at steam releases. Why should a publisher pay twice as much to get a better quality translation considering the high amount of people who gives thumbs up regardless of translation quality? Extra spent on the translation will not be reflected in the overall steam review score. You are right that more money allows higher quality, but it's not correct to say more money ensures higher quality. For that to be true, we would have to make customers way more picky about what they pay for.

Sorry but this is the quality you can get from even the most expensive translation service in Japan

+ Higher chance for classic VNs, with expensive licenses to be released in the West. + Higher chance for quality localizations (the larger the market, the more feasible it is for companies to invest a lot in translating VNs and not cut corners). + Less stigma and inaccurate, negative presumptions about the genre (if anime was able to go mainstream, VNs also might get demystified with time, even considering all the limitations for their spread ["people don't read" etc.]). + More people to talk about VNs and share your experiences with (I guess most people don't care that much, but I personally think that consuming media alone, without anyone to share it with is depressing as f***). Obviously, I'm super-biased when it comes to this point, because my blogging and stuff... I guess I'm not just an "end user" (just as many other people on the forums, who actually have ties to the publishing companies). + Less risk of the market actually dying out - there's more and more stuff getting released, if the publishers don't work on expanding the niche, it might easily crash at some point, burying the chance for many games we would like to see to ever get an English release. At least that's my take on it. Obviously, there are risks, like questionable content getting more scrutiny, but as I see it, there's enough of quality VNs that deserve to be released in English and enough of talented EVN creators for me to think that a bigger market for them can only be a positive thing.

A personal reason for me is that more people would mean a higher possibility for physical releases from companies like MG who look into sales numbers before deciding to make physical copies, this is however something I doubt a lot of people care about. Other than that I guess it also could help out when companies are about to go bankrupt, since there seems to be a declining market in Japan. Other than that I am not really sure what benefits we would gain, atm I think we are in a really good period for visual novels in regard to the titles being released in english.

I have to say I'm a bit with @bakauchuujin on this, the way you lump Moege and Nukige together and put them against "quality VNs" is going at least slightly overboard. Most moege that get translated are actually rather high-quality and while some people might see them as mindless waifu games, they can easily think the same about Little Busters or Clannad if they aren't familiar with them. Games like Fureraba or Princess Evangile don't need porn to work IMO, but the publishers, more often than not, see the all-ages versions as ways to sneak into platforms that don't sell porn rather than as legitimate products. For example, after the Steam release of SonoHana 11 was removed, I'm simply unable to buy the all-ages version I was looking for - MG doesn't sell it, because why would they, as a dedicated eroge publisher? There's a lot of quality, story driven VNs being released, definitely enough to satisfy an average player, who'll read them from time to time. The problem is much more on the marketing side of things and the philosophy companies like MG and JAST seem to follow, porn being their main commodity and everything else being more or less a bonus for even more niche audience.

Theres momoiro closet. pretty funny and a lot of h in it in one of the routes. but be warned that there is only one heroine in it but with her i was thoroughly entertained with her and the main characters interactions.

But feels SOOOOOO right. brb some people came out of a van from a company called "Flowers By Irene" that just parked outside my house and started insistently knocking on my door, but I didn't order any flowers!? Gotta go check what it's all about.

For once I'll be quicker than @ittaku and recommend To Heart 2 If you liked Majikoi, then give Tsujidou-san No Jun'ai Road a try. Then, for fans of Konosora there's also Miagete (A Sky Full Of Stars) - if you're OK with all-ages version (I liked it). I also second recommendations of Clannad, SakuSaku and Fureraba.

I'm playing it right now... and the opening of the game is completely and utterly different from the original Go path in Shin Koihime... but if it follows the pattern of Souten no Haou, the most important events probably won't change. Edit: There are some major improvements to the presentation of Kazuto's character in the Go route. While he was something of a tactician apprentice in the original version, he gets more down into the dirt and blood in this one than the original route. As a result, he makes a much better impression than the original version. However, the actual character events between chapters involving previously-existing characters haven't changed significantly... so I suggest focusing only on the most central characters (the Son family) and the new characters for the best enjoyment factor for people who played the original version. The mother is a pretty interesting/funny character, though her harshness makes Karen/Cao Cao seem mild.

Twenty minute long hentai scene? Jesus that sounds almost nightmarish. Well I've no real intention of ever playing a Sakura vn again but at least they don't seem quite so awful as they used to. I've been finding that the yuri protagonists I've come across in vns have been leaps and bounds better than most regular vn protags. For the most part anyway. I mean most of them don't even have faces.

I'm taking a slight break from 12 to play Flowers Dos since I've been awaiting its release with baited breath and an underlining agitation. I love it so far, Erika is my ideal protagonist I find her sarcasm and snarkiness to be refreshing. She really fits to my wavelength. While I liked Shou there were a few times when I found her meekness and timidness to be a bit frustrating. The references are as lit as ever, and I'm once again drawn to its peaceful and steady pace. I think it takes real skill to get a slow pace exactly right. Many vns and stories try but most times they end up being ponderous and aggravating. Flowers gets it right.

Clock Up usually does a fantastic job of making their H a core part of the story. They are one of those companies that handle H very well. Based on the trial, I think Erewhon will be very good. Going to buy it in a few days myself.

That is assuming there is a reason to wait for. As far as I can see, the majority of translated stuff can be summarized as moe/hentai. How many VNs with an actual plot are released in English compared to trash? 1 to 15 or 1 to 20 at best. I can't understand why people would even bother to buy them. If there was enough good supply, readers wouldn't bother to do something as troublesome as learning Japanese. I think that if localization companies actually localized more good content, VNs would receive better exposure, which in turn would encourage people to try more VNs, which would likely increase the demand for good stuff, which might reduce the cost of VNs and make them even more accessible. Another thing is that with all that moe stuff being released it is hard to find something good. I don't mean that it is a problem for us, those who have already read dozens of VNs and know a lot. I am talking about new readers. There is little to no exposure, no commercials or anything similar. If they actually buy something and it turns out to be moe/hentai story, many readers would never buy it again. Who these days actually pay for porn? Not to mention that many actually decent PC games cost the same or less than VNs and are superior in terms of content, time you can spend on it and it is way easier to come into contact with information about it. For a specific example, an VN on Mangagamer website on average costs about 40$. If I search a bit, I can find VNs like KnS series, Dies Irae or Umineko, but at the same time such trash like Side Boob story or Boob Wars... The majority of new readers would not even bother to search that much. To compare, for the similar price I could buy entire Prince of Persia franchise, WoW Complete Collection or an entire collection of Sherlock Holmes books on my local supermarket or online. Which would you choose, Boob wars or anything else I have listed? From this point of view, localization companies are at fault for not providing quality content. It does not matter how much you localize if it is all trash...

To tell you the truth, even the full featured version Emote Editor won't be able to edit PSB (or json from PSB), since PSB is "compiled". Emote Editor only accepts MMO (project file, or json from MMO), which contains many metadatas while PSB removed them. I would like to let my FreeMote recover MMO from PSB but that is hard like - as you said - hieroglyphs. The workaround of editing animation right now, is rather to understand and edit json, or to use scripts calling Emote API to make additional animation. Edit: The latest preview version of FreeMote is able to (partially) recover that "hieroglyphs" - which means it's (almost) possible to edit PSB animations.

It is not merely a problem with buying things that you do not understand. For example, lets treat VNs as standard PC games. All of us who have ever bought any game just need to ask ourselves a question why we did it. Lets be honest, the majority of us did it for 1 of 2 reasons: saw it somewhere (youtube or even picture on game box itself) and it looked cool or our friends kept talking about it. For reasons already mentioned before, both of these are unlikely to ever happen. Second point is that Japanese language is hard. Yes the culture is interesting and all, but still Japanese is one of the hardest languages in the world. For some people it can take longer to learn kanji alone than entire different language.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that kind of content, but after the XChange 3 incident years ago, Jast promised to announce ahead of time whenever any such changes were going to be made. Their track record honoring that promise has not been super great.

Congrats, man! I'll never do that though, cuz after Majikoi S i just don't want to read A parts at all. Still my fav is the very first one. "S" often has As for A-parts... I just don't feel like it. Plus main heroines are just side characters now, and my fav ones are still from the 1st game - Miyako of course takes 1st place, then Yukie. New ones are good, mostly, but not THAT good. So no, i'd better read other VNs and will treasure time i spent with first 2 games in my mind.
