  1. None of the characters, including the MC, want to be there. As for the H, I found every scene in the game utterly repellent. Even the theoretically more vanilla scenes. I didn't read any of them. As for the story, it's interesting - it certainly kept me interested in finishing it. But after I was done, I ultimately found it unsatisfying. The story is at war with itself. The latter half makes the most interesting aspect of the first part into an ice cream koan - undermining it and making what was interesting about it basically irrelevant. The true ending makes very little sense. The explanation behind the first part doesn't make any sense, either. One character's personality and actions make sense only if you stop considering them a 'character' with believable motivations and recognize that they're a walking plot device. Considering how highly this title was praised by those who like the dark side (Nargrakhan, etc), the fact that I wasn't overly impressed with it has convinced me to be far more selective screening dark side titles. I'm just giving Maggot Baits a hard pass, for instance. Nope. Nuh-huh. Not happening.

Sekai had nothing to do with Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai, you should really check the VNDB for that kind of information before you say anything like that. Also Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai has a very good translation.

  3. The opening song is very nice, so at least it's worth it. By that I mean it's worth to listen on Youtube only, and no you didn't really need to play this VN if you thought that the contents is too extreme. And if you want to play the VN with the same premise here, I think Root Double should be good because it have much less rape than euphoria. So yeah you may as well avoid euphoria here if you dislike rape, and as for my personal opinion while I can tolerate rape I would say that scat here is definitely not my thing (Not to mention the strange and uncanny torture).

If I may suggest something to the OP, it would be better to just pick the available fan patch instead of waiting for Sekai to thaw the project, which to say may took very long time seeing that it's Sekai and all. In case you still have some doubts, then you may play it with the patch for a while and if you find the translation is fine enough then you can continue. Although if you find the translation is bad, then you can decide to wait until Sekai thaw the project.

  6. I'm pretty sure no one missed it. No one even said it's incomprehensible, it's just... Dumb and unconvincing. A good setup drowned in ridiculous, overly convoluted sci-fi dribble and over-the-top plot twists. I understand people loving this game for its atmosphere and the psychological parts, but I find the overarching mystery plot absolutely indefensible. It doesn't make the game awful IMO, but doesn't deserve to be treated seriously.

  7. Btw for those who found the story utterly senseless did you complete the true route? Considering what you need to do to enter the last part of the story I think it would be pretty easy to miss it thinking that you read through all of it, well if you don't care about getting all the CGs.

  8. I am very much with Nandemonai here. Even if I blot out all the h scenes I simply cannot find much sense in the story. And the fact that the true route made all others more or less obsolete just added to the frustration. Many disgusting h scenes + an utterly senseless story makes this my worst VN reading experience so far.

  9. It happens to me, too. I usually try to read only one VN at a time. But sometimes I get distracted by other games that are not VNs. This usually happens when I read VNs that don't appeal to me that much. Then I might have longer breaks (perhaps up to 2 weeks). But in the end I still continue and finish them. I am pretty proud that I finished every VN that I started so far (with one exception but that was because it was in Japanese and I wanted to get better at that language before continuing it). I know that if I started a new exciting VN while reading a pretty boring one then I would probably drop it altogether so I avoid that at all costs. and yeah! Time's always too short!

  10. Well, it's supposed to be better than euphoria and this VN was already not all bad (even though I agree with all the criticism you gave here). I'm personally still very curious about it, but I guess I also never believed the hype and there was nothing I could be disappointed about. Clock Up VNs are just a curiousity to me and even if they end up being memorable for all the wrong reasons, they're at least something different... ;p ---- And as a bonus, an extremely unpopular opinion from me: The longer I think about euphoria, the more convinced I am that Rika's route is my favourite, and possibly the best one in the game. Rika starts as an awful character, but thanks to that has a lot of growth potential and receives a ton of that later on. The arc shows the surreal horror of the surface parts of the story, but doesn't go into all those dumb explanations for it (cool mystery >>>> stupid reveals). And the creepy Stockholm syndrome aspect of it all is only fitting considering the primary theme of the underground parts - Makina is the perfect counterpart to the protagonist, drawing out his worst instincts and confronting him with them, and in the end they both receive redemption of sorts. In a way, it stays most fateful to the psychological horror aspects of the game.

  11. Yeah due to real life and motivation loss, I don't always finish one. Eventually I come back to it, if it keeps my interest. I haven't dropped any yet, because Im sure I'll regret it. At least I'm almost done with reading EF. I had to start it over, since I am reading different ones. Also my genre preference changes. I sometimes want a Nakige or another genre. It depends what genre I'm in the mood for.

  12. Most of the sex scenes are "rape". None of the characters except the mc want to be there, but they are coerced into sex to protect everyone (with Nemu it's debatable, as she has her own way of experiencing the sex scenes, as well as having a few other important points that I won't mention due to spoilers). The rapiest route is with Makiba, which lessens as the plot continues and isn't necessary for the true ending. The story actually gets more vanilla later on, but a big draw to this game is the underground game arc.

  13. I agree with this. I've only explored Nemu's route but the VN is worth a read to me so far because it's actually pretty interesting and the extreme content doesn't feel like it's there just to be there.

  14. There's a lot of hardcore sexual content (like this) in the VN. You need to make sure you can handle it first before you go into this (you said you disliked rape, so I'm assuming you dislike more extreme sexual content in general) It's worth it to bear through those in my opinion. The twisted story line is pretty unique among TL-ed VNs (I don't think there's another EN one like it as of now); it's deep and interesting (kinda like the twist on the true route although not the ending itself) and thought-provoking (at least for me for Nemu and Kanae's routes). If you can handle those sexual stuff (note: some of it do play a part in the plot and the development of it in some routes) and a plot which is darker and more twisted than most stories you will read, then you should definitely read this VN

    Going back to VNs?

It happens a lot with me. >.< I am ashamed for this but sometimes I just don't feel like continuing some novel... So I stop playing for a while and if it becomes a long period, then I re-start playing it from the begin.

    Going back to VNs?

I have some VNs I've stalled ages ago, but I have to find one I actually come back to... No because they didn't grab me, but exactly because they did and I want to play them when I have proper amount of time and attention to spare. Time and attention which I never have, even though I don't really circulate through non-otaku hobbies very much. I'm with Adamstan on this, days are way too short. :C

    Going back to VNs?

I think I didn't have such long break during a VN - mostly about a week. I might have had longer breaks, but it was after finishing current VN. But I know what you mean about alternating between different hobbies, as I have similar "problem" Actually currently it's the other way around - I got swept away by anime, VNs and learning Japanese, and so sometimes I start to feel bad about neglecting my other hobbies. Days are definitely too short!

You forgot Nastuki. According to trip, Natsuki is the shortest route. I don't remember my exact times, but Marika is a tad longer than Misa and Sora would be in the middle overall. Touko is apparently long, but I haven't finished that one yet.
