Hello everyone, this is Tanbo Nakai, from Italy and I'm a new amateur Visual Novel developer. I love so much the fantastic world of VN, even if I started two years ago to read them! My nick name is a proof of my truly love for thoose game. Tanbo = is surname of Doctor Ryoko Tanbo, an amazing character of "Saya no Uta", very famous horror Visual Novel. Nakai = is from Hisao Nakai, main character of Katawa Shoujo, another beloved Visual Novel. So, I'm here to met you and discuss about visual novel. I'm developing my own project: "One Day to Disappear" a short psychologichal story. A first demo can be downloaded here: https://onedaytodisappear.itch.io/one-day-to-disappear Well, I thank you for your attention and see you later! ;D Tanbo Nakai.3 points

Katawa Shoujo, the queen of homemade VN

I'm, strangely enough, in the process of slowly going through Katawa Shoujo for the first time... But I'm already pretty sure nothing's going to beat Hanako route for me, and Hanako as a heroine. While I think Lily's is plenty enjoyable, it just didn't have the same impact and strong theme. Seeing parts of Shizune's route now, I like its flow and the kind of ambivalent character Shizune herself is. I wonder if something is going to make me hate her like so many people do later on...2 points -

katawa shoujo was a lot of peoples gateway visual novel and was for me a way to see visual novels as more than just nukige stories. i consider it vn of the decade because of how influential it was and its strange background. a vn from 4chan could've been terrible or great for meme reasons but it turned out to be a genuinely heartfelt story with a lot of passion put into it. as for favorite character i gotta go with hanako. lily is realy great and i loved the story but hanako is my absolute favorite.2 points -
sure thing buddy sure thing 1. AMASSING CAPITAL - As with the vast majority of businesses, you're going to need some startup capital. Because the general profitability of English language visual novel translations is approximately 0, you will likely have a difficult time finding investors unless they have two or more health conditions that inhibit their brain function. You will most likely have to self-fund. Flip those cushions, ransack your old man's attic for some forgotten stock certificates, you know the deal. The bare minimum, I'd say, is somewhere around $50,000. NOTE that you can increase your (probably non-existent because VN) profit margins by performing a work role in the company, translating, editing, etc; instead of just being the translation sweatshop overseer. OK and PLEASE don't go into debt over such a pants-on-head business idea. Please don't. 2. ESTABLISH THE COMPANY - Search for how to establish a company in your jurisdiction, it should be the same for a localization business as most other businesses. Come up with some sick name and branding, get a fancy graphic artist to do some of it, maybe get an anime girl mascot since zoomers seem to love that shit these days. OK you have money to burn and company branding that hopefully doesn't look like a kindergarten art project, not bad let's get started down that slope that ends in 'we are, regrettably, going to be phasing out of visual novel publishing'. 3. ACQUIRE LICENSES - This is where my man Kokoro, my 4th favourite person on Fuwanovel, 's advice comes in. Haul ass over to Japan — you DO speak Japanese, right? Perhaps consider enlisting the services of a business consultant with experience in Japan so as to not make a fool of yourself and make use of their connections so you are not cold calling. Otherwise, cold call, flash your sick branding, and attempt to get a meeting with a representative one of the last vestiges of a dying industry. In a pinch, you could try virtual meetings, but in general it is better to have boots on the ground when performing international business. BONUS STEP - Wait for COVID-19 to settle down. BONUS BONUS STEP - Consider working with Chinese companies as well so you perhaps stand a chance at financial success. Practise drinking baijiu and sake before you leave in order to sharpen your abilities in shitfaced negotiation. 4. ACQUIRE STAFF - Assuming you made it this far by the grace of God, you will need staff members to work on the license you have acquired. A translator, an editor, and a QA (preferably a GOOD one they're important) is probably the bare minimum, along with the unfortunate bastard that will have to handle the technical side of things with the engine. Probably attempt to pay them around the sweet spot between 'this would be a decent wage in 1820' and 'this would be a decent wage in 2020'. You have to keep those expenses down but if the sweatshop workers take up arms then the game is all over, commissar. 5. WORK ON THE THING - Do the translating and the editing and the QA-ing. Try to stick to the deadlines you impose and share, that alone would probably set you apart. 6. ADVERTISE THE THING AND DO SOCIAL MEDIA THINGS - Again use that sick branding to form an online presence. Do it yourself if you are personable and responsible, otherwise find somebody else to do it. 7. SELL THE THING - Contact storefronts, the classics, Steam, JAST USA, all that great stuff we know and love, get it listed places where people can buy it, maybe start your own web store if your web design person lives in an economically depressed region. 8. GO BANKRUPT - Ok nah just kidding but probably. Then you just repeat from 3, possibly skipping 4 if you are a benevolent overlord. Best of luck to you!2 points

Katawa Shoujo, the queen of homemade VN

A few years back I read Hanakos route and from my first impression she was by far my favorite character in the game. I ought to read the whole VN at some point. In any case even now I still have good memories and a high opinion of the game. ( At least the parts I read anyway.)1 point -
Hello. I have a project that is making an english patch for psp version of Rewrite and we are having issues with image decoding. The formats are .PT2 and .DAT. Can someone help us? Here are a link to sample files: https://mega.nz/file/L2IWAKKR#x138U0t4Z_19kH59RSdKx9uJxshfB07Qb_2UBgTKM6k1 point

I loved every route except of Shizune. She just doesn't sit well with me. I don't usually say this for VN heroines but...I really hated Shizune as a character and my hate became much worse when I found out that there was no Misha's route except that affair part which leads to bad ending. I could have easily chosen Misha over Shizune. As far as my favourite routes go its Emi>>>Hanako>>Lily>Rin. I don't even consider Shizune's route to give it a rating but it's just my personal feelings about her. As for other people who do consider her as a good heroine, I can understand why? Its not like her personality is bad, but I just hate her personality (though my tastes in good personality can't be termed as decent one either considering my fav Grisaia heroine was Makina). But yeah...Katawa Shoujo, a game which I love more than many Japanese ones. Tbh I never considered a western VN to be so mesmerizing because when I looked at a vast majority of games made in Ren'Py, only a handful of them were decent enough to be called a "professional" VN. I didn't even knew it was made by a bunch of people on 4chan, though I was somehow intrigued by "4 leaf clover studio". And what they achieved was monumental? For a freeware, this game had everything of top notch quality. And I think this is the only english Visual novel that even Japanese people know about.1 point -

i personally just not a fan of her personality, also Shizune's good ending is kinda disapointing, but her bad ending is pretty emotional.1 point -
I love Katawa shoujo,it's one of the first vn i ever read and after all these years it's my favourite visual novel.my favorite character is Lilly,i love the way she looks( first time we met her in game,i was thinking how beutiful she looks) and her personality:she's caring and friendly person.2nd favorite is Emi,i love how determinated she is,even accident couldn't stop her keep running. I also like Misha,i wish she was romancable(maybe switch places with Shizune-she my least favorite person in vn). Katawa shoujo is very important visual novel to me,it's teaches very inmortant lessons like, never give up,importance of friendship and so on.1 point

DeepL is by far the best. I might now have told anyone this, but all my doujins are translated this way. I even fooled (((professional))) translators and they think I know Japanese. LMAO what a bunch of morons.1 point -

Then once you have gotten your first license start a kickstarter to fund the title getting translated and use the money to fund getting more licenses so you can announce more titles. Then work on getting as many licenses as you can possibly get and then get overwhelmed by the amount of projects leading to poor management of the different localisations and poor management on delivering on your initial kickstarter/kickstarters to then be hated by people who spent money on your kickstarter or are waiting on you to release titles. Then suffer poor sales due to reputation built up on poor management and due to the small reader base in the english community which also only has few people willing to actually pay for VNs.0 points
