  1. Hey there people! I apologize for my arguable overreach, but I've decided to take down the original thread as I felt troubled by the direction it was going. While everyone's free to discuss the pandemic, I strongly plead to everyone to keep the thread as fact-based as possible and focus on things we can do to keep ourself safe in this crisis. There's a lot of information floating around there and I won't allow this site to be another source of counter-productive panic, at least as long as other admins don't overturn my decision – you're free to appeal to them if you disagree, but for my part, I will observe this thread closely and act decisively. In Poland, situation so far seems somewhat under control, but it's also because the government introduced some harsh preventive measures real quick. In other parts of the world, in Italy in particular, it's much worse. I'm myself probably going to be stuck at home for a few weeks while our family's company mostly switched to remote work and this is basically the main appeal to everyone, whether the virus is already spread out in your country or only starting to show up – stay at homes whenever you can and do research on what steps you can take to keep yourself safe when going out. Even things like masks are only effective if you use them right. If you are not worried about getting sick yourself, think whether there are vulnerable people around you: elderly, those with chronic conditions or weaker immunity. And, in the end, don't panic or obsess over preventive measures either. There's only that much you can do, but those few crucial things like hygiene and minimizing contact with strangers are actually very likely to keep you safe. This will pass and if you keep acting responsibly, it'll pass sooner. Stay strong guys!

  2. Grisaia... ah Grisaia... Sorry, couldn't resist. People often try to present the series as something completely unique... and there are some elements to the series that stand out. However, these elements were all drawn from earlier VNs in one way or another. School for exiled rich kids and problem children: Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no anyone? Protagonist is a deeply mentally scarred individual who lacks common sense: Akatsuki no Goei anyone? (also Full Metal Panic, as Sagara and Yuuji have so many common threads it made me seriously laugh my ass off at the time) Incestuously mutually dependent relationships between siblings: So many VNs it isn't even funny. Heroines with extreme emotional disabilities and traumas: Again, numerous games, even before Grisaia came out Twisted relationship with a heroine that began with a near-parental bond: Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (again) The list goes on... but I'm going to come right and say this. Just because it isn't perfectly unique doesn't mean it isn't good. I will go farther in saying that anyone who is playing Grisaia in English is missing out, because what is said is often less important than what isn't said (the comedy aside), and English sucks at that kind of thing. Now for second and third game... I seriously bashed the second game for being a repeat of Akagoei's second game, as both of them end after blasting you with the protagonist's past, though Grisaia took it a step further by making it a cliffhanger (which was horrible, since I had to wait a year or so to see the rest). Getting to know Yuuji's past was great, since the limited bits and pieces that are dropped as hints or comments in Amane's path aren't enough to give you a good idea of how Yuuji lived until now. The third game is basically one solid storyline to the end, which is its primary draw and the one area where it completely trumps the original game, which was SOL heavy in comparison. The fact that it was a harem ending didn't bother me... I love harem endings, regardless of genre. My problem was with Michiru's standing in that ending, lol (Michiru being my least liked heroine of the original... no make that I just actively disliked her). I did think that it channeled a little too much of the 'unify the original game's paths' drama into a single comprehensive story thread' idea. It reminded me of what a lot of early anime made from visual novels did, where all the heroines paths were sort of mashed together in the anime in an attempt to accelerate the story, often with mixed results. With VNs, due to most of them being multipath, sequels rarely work out in a way that isn't awkward, and Grisaia is not an exception to this rule. I love Grisaia, but that doesn't mean it is lacking in flaws.

  3. And this is why i consider Kajitsu a near-classic while Meikyuu is borderline good and everything else in the series is just decent. I will always praise how the long common route drilled the girls' comedy traits into your head just to reveal the disturbing reasons for those in each route, making you look at the common route in an entirely different way.

  4. Hi new member here, just wanna ask if there is any apps that let me read pc visual novels in IOS. In android there are a couple apps like VNDS, kirikiroid2, exagear strategies, etc. So far I have only managed to discover a hidden kirikiroid2 port in the Appstore called "Xp3 player". Event though this is paid, it lets me play visual novels from the kirikiri engine such as Fate/Stay Night Realta Nua and Nekopara. I haven't heard anyone talking about it so I assume it was hidden well or something. I think there are probably more hidden visual novel players in the Appstore even if it seems unlikely, but hey I managed to find Xp3 player somehow. So does anyone know if there is more apps like this in the Appstore? (link to xp3 player: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/xp3player/id1064060287 )

  6. i feel like assholes are gonna pop up with the thought process of "eh, i dont care if i get it. im young so it wont kill me most likely" when thats not the only point. its also about not spreading it to those who are more vulnerable to the virus. the elderly, the ones with asthma, those are the people who cant handle it. wash your hands, dont touch your face when youre out. when you get home, clean your clothes asap as the virus can stick to them and take a shower. be cautious and safe!!!

  7. I will be spending the coming weeks quarantined in my home, playing video games and masturbating. I hope you're all grateful for my sacrifice.

    On h-scenes in VNs

I'm a pretty wierd VN reader as I don't really care for H-scenes, at least hentai as such simply doesn't do it for me and is usually inserted in ways that rather hurts than add to the narrative. Same goes to milder fanservice in many VNs and anime, it's simply so superficial and dumb that it takes me out of the experience. I think that its just as much about culture as it is about negative tropes within the genre and looking for broad appeal - some people expect fanservice and actively look for it, even outside of straight up "adult" titles, so it ends up being pushed into everything. Still, I'm not a prude, especially when sexual content uses well written text rather than just explicit visuals and has clear reason for being there, I can enjoy it a lot. Especially yuri, as I find it much cutter and more interesting than straight sex scenes. In one of my favorite yuri VNs, Love Ribbon, theres a pretty explicit masturbation scene, that still manages to fit very well with the theme (a lesbian discovering her sexuality) and acts as an important plot device. When it's done like that, I can't complain, but it's a bit rare IMO.

  11. It's still a great game nonetheless. It's way better in gameplay compared to Sengoku Rance. It has lots of comedy and ecchi moments and the characters are likeable. And if you're a loli fan, there's a lot of them and you can create your all-loli party. xD

  13. I remember needing to remake my character because is wasn't up to Steve's standards. I went through 5 checks just to get Steve's approval just for the characters body.
