  1. Thank you, I will look into katawa shoujo!
  2. Thank you very much. Unfortunately, maybe because I didn't sleep last night, I forgot to mention that I don't read Japanese. None of these seem to be translated, at least from what I can see on vndb. I am starting to study Japanese though so I'll keep this list for when I get a better hang of it. I realized Narcissu might fit the bill, though. At least from what I can remember, it handles the impermanence of life, if anyone is interested (I already played it). I wonder if this kind of thing doesn't go well with western audiences since none of the ones you were so kind to list have any translation. Such a shame.
  3. Right now I'm reading the manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and it reminded me a lot of the Japanese and Chinese poetry I used to read. I guess this might be a tricky one but I'm not demanding any sort of high-brow poetry VN, just something that really induces a feeling of the "fleeting life". Mono no aware in the sense of "beauty in impermanence". A lot of VNs probably has elements of mono no aware but I'm looking for something where this is more of the focus. In manga, think Aria, Yotsubato or the above mentioned Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou Sorry for being difficult and thanks in advance, Niku
  4. I'm reading Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and I can't even begin to describe how hard this manga struck me. Maybe it's because I haven't read that much manga but so far (I'm on chapter 42) it's the best manga I've ever read. Hands down. I guess the closest one to it would be Yotsubato but it's not even a contest as far as I'm concerned. I can't recommend this series enough to anyone who hasn't read it yet. I guess it's really popular but I'm guessing a few people might not have heard of it so for those of you: It's sort of a slice-of-life story set in a post-apocalyptic Japan. Humanity is slowly but surely declining and people just live their lives peacefully as civilization fades away. It's very much about savouring the fleeting moments of every day life. I get a strong zen vibe from it. As far as I'm concerned it's like Japanese poetry, zen inspired haiku and tanka I guess, evolved into the manga format.
  5. I'm playing ArcheAge on the EU server Dahuta. If anyone's interested in playing (you can start now, for free), whisper me. My character is called Vera and I'm a firran "ranger". I was playing Dragon Quest VIII and was going to start Planescape: Torment, but ArcheAge kinda has my attention for now.
  6. My favourite anime is undoubtedly Welcome to the NHK (which is also my favourite light novel). What can I say? I relate to it and I hate that but at the same time I'm so happy that they made something which almost resonates as well with me as Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground. As for manga... well. It's probably either Genshiken (I and II) or Yotsubato.
  7. My first one, besides the dubbed ones I watched as a child, was Chobits. I watched it all in one sitting. I think this was in 2007.
  8. I'm reading HoshiMemo right now. I think I'm almost done with the common route. Chinami is a bit annoying with the onii-chan but despite that I have to say I like her. I actually like all the girls.
  9. WataMote is definitely my favourite this season. As far as I'm concerned it doesn't betray the manga in any major way. And sure it makes me feel bad and all but I think that's what I like about it. Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi has positively surprised me. And I guess I liked Shingeki no Kyoujin but I got curious and read the manga so now I guess I kind of dropped it. Genshiken, I feel, isn't as good as previous seasons. Or at least it isn't as true (whatever I mean by that).
  10. Yeah, Pupa sure sounds interesting
  11. I use torrents (nyaa and bakabt) if only for the sense of control that comes with having actual files on your harddrive
  12. I definitely feel sad. And the longer it was, the longer it takes for me to move on to something else (like real life). For me it's the same with long anime, manga and books. But if it changed my life in any way, that I don't think. I'm probably just using it for escapism.

  15. Wow! You saved me. That was exactly it. I feel like a moron now. For some reason I had it set to 7.1 sound but I'm using headphones. Thank you so much
  16. In the past few days I've installed Kanon, Clannad, Rewrite and A Profile, all from this site (and another download of Clannad I found somewhere). As far as I know these VNs have voice acting but in all cases they are mute. When I test voices in the options or click through dialogue the background music volume is lowered for a bit as if letting the voices through but I hear nothing. In Clannad the voice box is crossed out with a red cross but in the others I see nothing disabling voices in the options. Am I doing something obviously wrong? I've searched google and this site but I've found nothing. Thanks in advance

    Thank you everyone

    Hey

Thanks As I didn't play many I'm not really sure what I like but aspects I remember fondly are the thick ambience of certain VNs. Romance sure is a plus since I'm a loser. Thanks Saya no Uta had a huge impact on me. It's a genius love story imho.

    Hey

Hi there, I'm almost new to visual novels. I played a few a couple of years back but then I somehow lost it. Now I'm at a point where I'd like to get back to VNs. Relax some and just immerse myself. So anyway, if you'd have this noob then hello
