That said, I still think Tsukihime is a masterpiece.

Yeah, kinda like the goofy humor in Akame ga Kill, especially in the manga, cause if they didn't half of their fanbase would probably commit suicide.

It really felt like they were trying to set up the sequel, but I hear they really don't have much to do with each other. However, I recently learned that Aoki Touji will return and be a major character so I'm still pumped.

Baccano, Monogatari, Kara no Kyoukai, and Haibane Renmei can be considered fantasy or horror. If it is horror you are looking for, you should definitely check out Higurashi, Psycho-Pass, and I suppose Another. Psycho-Pass is more like a cop-drama, but I feel like there is enough messed up crap happening that you would like it. I don't want to spoil Higurashi, but i'll just say you will need to stick with it awhile before any of the mystery gets cleared up. Another is a gamble, alot of people like it.... but, if you think about it too much the entire plot starts to unravel.

I would recomend my personal Holy trinity of anime (minus steins;gate cause it's a visual novel adaptation so you should probably go read that first). The other two would be Haibane Renmei- A perfect example of an anime that radically changes in meaning depending on who watches it. There is alot of symbolism and religous undertones that will get one thinking about life. WARNING: As such you shouldn't expect everything to be spelled out for you though, much like religion you have to find answers for yourself. Kara no Kyoukai- First off, good luck trying to find a legal copy cause the price tag is rediculous... however I would almost recomend doing so. The animation quality is GOD TIER, I have yet to see something that even comes close to it, sadly it is hard to find a decent stream of it online. There is alot of great action and philosophy, however if it has one weakness it would be its pretentiousness. It can get kinda rapped up in meaning of life stuff and it can grate on your nerves. WARNING: The movies are released in a non-chronological order, which may frustrate you, but trust me stay with it and you will not regret it. Other great anime that I'm too lazy to write details about. Black Lagoon - Pure action Girls und Panzer - Moe/Tank action Gurren Lagann - Mecha/Soinsaneit'sawesome D-frag - comedy Baccano! - action/story Durarara - action/story Hanasaku Iroha - Slice of Life Monthly Girls' Nozaki-Kun- Comedy Monogatari Series's - Shaft's odd animation style/eccentric characters (LOOK UP WATCH ORDER ON WIKIPEDIA)

There are bearly any translated VNs that have any incest in them (I should know it's a fetish of mine), so you can forget about that. For a school setting without a brain-dead protagonist I would have to second the Key suggestion. Key does a decent job with creating protagonists that actually seem like they can function in society.
