...it's a raising sim.

The second you mentioned Key I figured out the second part ;( the amount of times I've fought over Key having bad graphics is to high. I know you said it was where Key started but is there any other reasons you recommend this specific Key title over other Key titles? I normally hear about Rewrite, Little Busters, and Clannad when I hear people talking about Key so this feels like an odd choice of recommendation. I've actually seen this title from JAST before but I hadn't played it. If Shiny Days is coming out in a few months would you actually recommend me waiting for it and then starting with that one? Or should I read School Days first? Thanks for such an in depth review I tend to avoid games with very dated art but after reading that review I think I could look past the art and give it a few hours of my time to see if it is worth the read. As for the Yu-no suggestions would it be worth waiting for the remake that is coming out this year or do people think it isn't going to be as good as the original?

Okay guys I've been a part of the VN forums a lot more lately but I have to say my reading history is lacking. I actually got into VNs through Ren'py, if that makes it clear. I'm looking for 2 kinds of recommendations. 1) I really want a good game with lots of choices/endings.Not something: kinetic enforced play order choose girl you like over and over to get her route. 2) I want a good 'classic' (/popular?) recommendation. The Dangan Ronpa and Zero Escape series are the only "Big" names that I've read other than your Yaois. I've heard about Steins;Gate, Cross Channel, Muv Luv, F S/N, Clannad, Majikoi, G-Sensuo,Grisaia, Princess Evangile, insert a dozen other names I see in every topic here. There are too many names I hear over and over on every thread and I don't know where to start. I'd like a few people to just list 1 or 2 of their favorite well known VNs and why they enjoyed it so that I might be able to pick one. Please, please, please don't try to list a bunch because that's my problem picking a VN to start with I'm not a fan of mecha, space, or heavily historical based settings if that makes any difference. Biggest requirement? It has to have an English translation. I really wish I could read Japanese but I can't. TL;DR- VNs translated into English, with lots of choices/endings and 1-2 of your 'must read' VNs also translated into English Thanks guys!

crying. The game is listed on their site now but there's not even a pre-order date listed. How am I supposed to rape date cute girls, now?

Goshdarnit and I was totally going to suggest No, Thank You!!! when I saw the title ;( actually I wasn't going to suggest it but like honestly it is probably the closest game to what the OP would have wanted if it wasn't a Yaoi. It has a ton of sex scenes that are all pretty long with 50+ CGs to most of them and all the background noise along with the VOs and stuff, but it has a crazy good plot. It's ClockUp's 'sister' company so it looked like ones of their Nukige's but with actual plot thrown in. If OP doesn't mind hardcore/weird fetish stuff I feel like Euphoria is going to fit the bill though. It sounds like a really good "Get Out While You Can" plot but it's a nukige. It's a pretty iffy reccomendation though because I know it has a bunch of scat, torture, general SM, weird fetishes etc. Although they have the option to turn off watersports/scat so that should be a plus but still sadistic torture devices in your h-scenes might not be appealing to all.

I just picked up Oblivious Garden which has been in my Steam library for a while now. I feel racist to say I hate Chinese VNs, but I really do. It's like when I started reading VNs and watching (just a little bit of) anime I didn't particularly like Japanese VOs because some of their voice stereotypes were annoying, but I got so used to the pronounciation and such that I now prefer Subbed stuff over Dubbed and now that I actually like hearing Japanese VOs I can't stand Chinese VOs. I swear everyone in Oblivious Garden sounds like they have a lisp or something and they can't pronounce anything. It was the same way reading that other Steam Chinese VN (Shan Gui) I can't tell if maybe it's just they have low production values or if it's the Chinese audio, but eww :/ part of me wants to turn off voices but I prefer games with VOs and since they have them I'd feel like I was gypping myself to turn them off. Other than that I bought Little Witch Romanesque: Editio Perfecta just because the Steam version was out and I also wanted the Steam key. It's been sitting on my wishlist for a while though. I feel my inner girl shows when I pick up games like that I'm such a Raising Sim/Management Sim addict. I wish more were translated into English. I mean like games with cute chicks and lots of boobs are cool and all but like Raising Sims man.

VN Characters You Felt That Needed a Route
AlexZandria replied to atchikotchi's topic in Visual Novel Talk

VN Characters You Felt That Needed a Route
AlexZandria replied to atchikotchi's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Really she was like my least favorite character in the whole series? Honestly though I couldn't see her story being 6 chapters long because she pretty much knows everything right from the start. Komaeda from the second game or like Togami maybe. But the two female sides were some of the blandast characters. Notice how Kirigiri and Nanami are both very nonexpressive introverts. They both have very bland slate outward personalities to not "give away" who they are which was really stupid. By the time I got to figure out who they were I didn't care. --- edit: didn't realize that post was from a year ago, screw it whatever -
I'm a little sad about the Eden* sale because I bought it at 20% off recently pretty much just because it was on sale, I needed a new VN, and I like racking up MG Points. I could have gotten it 50% off if I'd waited ;( I'm definitely getting Cho Dengeki Stryker because it's the only one on the MG sales I don't have, and I did buy Little Witch but not from Steam because 18+ content OP as always.

Goddammit why does the one chick I'm interested in have to be the suggested last route. Doesn't matter what game I always have a distinct interest in the "last" suggested route and I'm meh at best about everyone else

unlocking cg in kamidori alchemy meister
AlexZandria replied to wyldstrykr's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It was bad wording. OP asked for a guide to unlock ALL cgs. You gave them the way to unlock ALMOST all cgs. -
I've looked into Overdrive's other titles and can say neither of them looked that interesting xD Pshhh Long Live the Queen is hands down best game under the VN tag even though it's a raising sim and not a VN ;( but I'm glad it's better than most Steam games (although I think it's pretty far down the list because I never really saw it browsing through the tag) because a lot of them have really sucked.

Wait does this mean Texas has given up Cinnamon? Nekopara fans, quick! Come whisk Cinnamon away before Texas change his mind.

Thanks guys I appreciate the comments I don't know how appealing the "little childish at times" kind of thing will be but it sounds like people enjoyed it so I guess I'll give it a go.

So MG is having that April Fools day sale for a few titles and Cho Dengeki Stryker is the only game on sale that I don't have a copy of yet. I was curious as to what people's overall opinions on the VN was and if it's worth getting? It's a 50% off sale but there really aren't many reviews on MG to base a decision off of. If it helps any the notable titles I've read are the Dangan Ronpa Series, 999, DRAMAtical Murder, Hadaka Shitsuji, No Thank You!!!, Sweet Fuze, Long Live the Queen. I've also bought (but haven't finished yet) titles such as Eden*, Which Girl Should I Choose?, the Royal Trap, Hatoful Boyfriend, etc. Mostly Get Out While You Can and Yaoi/BL so I'm hoping that Cho Dengeki Stryker is a title that caters to a less niche audience. Thanks guys! And in case you hadn't heard of it Go! Go! Nippon, Eden*, and Cho Dengeki Stryker were all supposed to be on 50% off sale for April Fool's this week.

Depends on my mood if I think the voices are attractive how long they take and what language they are voiced in

Reading the changed link above it looks kind of like NTY!!! With all the options (not surprising since same artist, and sister company) some of which include the option to turn on and off scat and on and off grotesque scenery. I'm sure it would still have some mention of it in the writing but changed visuals so you couldn't see that if it helps any.

Yeah I feel pretty much the opposite. I can't stand the innocent shy type really. I was always into all of those asshole tropes, the jerkass (with a heart of gold, with a heart of jerk, jerkass facade, just plain jerkass trope), Sarcastic Devotee, Asshole victim, tall dark and snarky, the snark night, the anti-hero. I like those cynical, snarky, assholes. I like the characters who consider themselves loners without the pity party, angsty characters. It's why I'd rather have a male dominated cast in pretty much anything from books, to games, to movies because tsundere sucks imo, it doesn't hit the nail on the head for me the same way most of the jerkass tropes do. Sometimes I also like the laid back and lethargic "I don't want to do anything" characters too. Notice how Ayaka is the only one of the 4 main girls I showed any interest in. From every screenshot/thing I've seen about the game she's not the bashful shy one even when it comes to intimacy unlike every other heroine.
-
Yeah when I originally saw the cast I wanted the game (although let me just say whoever drew the sex scenes doesn't know how to make aesthetically appealing anatomy and those few screenshots made me cringe in discomfort) but then I realized only 4 of them had routes and I wasn't really interested anymore. Faceless main character screwing around with a bunch of characters I don't like (except the blue haired sister is cute) and being teased by the ones I do like. NTY.

Danganronpa 3 in development, "in very early stages"
AlexZandria replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Honestly I preferred the second one. Like there were characters I liked in the first one but what I've always said about the first game was that after chapter 2 ended every character I liked either died or was broken beyond repair. In the second on I liked Souda, Tanaka, Saionji, Kuzuryuu, Hanamura, and Komaeda. I also loved Hinata and Nanami was okay whereas I really didn't like Kirigiri. Basically I was smitten for about half of the class. I think a big part of the enjoyment factor of each game is the executions and the enjoyment of the characters. I definitely disliked ch6 in the 2nd game (although I wasn't a fan of it in the first game either) but like to really enjoy the game you gotta find the cast to be a decent one which means you might like the 3rd game better than the 2nd The second Dangan Ronpa game is one of my favorite games of all time and it is waaaay higher on my list of favorite games than Dangan Ronpa. Seriously ch3-6 of Dangan Ronpa wasn't bad but like my initial favorites from the intros happened to be first murderer and the one who broke the rules. The only two chicks I liked after that were the one who broke down during the trial and the one who died, my favorite guys were the murderer and the one who broke down....ch2 ended and like I thought the ch3 murderer was entertaining and togami is entertaining for the memes but like that's all. I was playing the fame just to see people expecuted at that point Let's be real though the first and second games were already technically sci fi -
Cocoro@Function! Stream V.2 with OriginalRen! - Mina's Route!
AlexZandria replied to OriginalRen's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Isn't the fan translation for this project dead though? I feel like going by personality that Mina would be one of my least favorite girls to begin with. -
Man I've been wanting to read totono so badly but I don't know any Japanese yet. I'm just starting to look into learning it but ugh I'm sure it will be forever before I can actually play the game

I'm saying that, in my opinion, her art is bad because she lacks fundamentals in anatomy, composition, and color theory that are indisputably important in all works of art. A lot of people bag on Key's art and the reason is because the quality is in part measurable by those factors.
-
I like key's art style I don't mind the disproportional characteristics on their drawings I found them charming in a way and after so many years they are still drawing almost in the same way for a reason. No no no. Saying you dislike something or that it is generally bad is an opinion. Saying that the anatomy or quality is bad isn't really an much of an opinion. You can say that you don't like the Mona Lisa and that you think it's ugly. Those are opinions. But you didn't say "I think the Mona Lisa has bad anatomy" or that "the quality of the Mona Lisa is low". It is a good quality piece it is just not a piece that fits your taste. Something can be hideous and be good quality. Hideous is an opinion, quality has a slight opinion on it but quality in art is measured by specific art theories that hold true in every piece of art. Repetition, perspective, composition, theories of color, rules of anatomy. They measure art quality. It's measured by your adherence to the rules of art and the symbolism behind breaking them. If you break a rule of art, without a reason, the quality is lowered. It's not so much an opinion in that case. Its like a cook deciding to add or take out ingredients or an architect adding/subtracting certain foundational structures. If there isn't a reason why you took out some of those supporting beams the whole house becomes shaky and the quality is undeniably lowered. You aren't going to argue that that is an 'opinion'
