No doubt Uchikoshi did a lot of work with the Infinity series, he was after all one of the main scenario writers. But his work on 12Riven is more interesting than the Zero Escape series. I still like the ZE series but I don't feel about it like most people out there. And although I/O is a bit different than 'people trapped and have to find a way out' Root Double IS like that. I just hope Nakazawa's next game will be released on pc too
-
That was exactly my point, Uchikoshi reuses the same plot devices over and over and that's kind of why you will see similarities between the Infinity and the Zero Escape series. Root Double is the latest game from Nakazawa (excluding the secre game series but he was more like a producer on those). Although he didn't write it himself he did plan the whole story. The full name is Root Double ~Before Crime * After Days~ and it is pretty good, I don't want to say anything more about it until I finish it myself.

Actually Remember11 IS Nakazawa's story. He is the main man behind this game. Uchikoshi also worked on it but Nakzawa was the man who planned it all. For some reason Uchikoshi, although never denied that he worked on this game also didn't want his name in the credits so he is credited under a different name. Remember11 is a very good example of the kind of a storyteller is Nakazawa, everything here is has a lot of detail, the plot is really tightly planned, there are many themes and interesting ideas. I think that after Remember11 Nakzawa had so much rage in him that I/O became his way of breaking this rage. That's why I/O is so complex and overwhelming on the brain and Root Double is less so. I guess Root Double is like a new Ever17 while I/O was the new Remember11, but remember, just because I said that don't compare between these games and expect the same things, lol.

The problem with Uchikoshi is that he repeats the same plot devices over and over. Nakazawa always tries to make things fresh. Nakazawa's stories are a lot more condensed and full of complexities and detail. I think they are both good writers. Don't expect amazing twists and turns from I/O, it's just a really detailed and complex story and it really amazing how it takes it all and actually makes sense of it all. So I/O is not full of twists but it's very complex and will make your brain melt. An extremely long epic cyberpunk story.

Root Double -Before Crime After Days- any good?
fun2novel replied to Kanbe's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I have not yet finished it myself but I can say right now that it does not disappoint. It is from the same guy who did the Infinity series and I/O so if you played those you kind of should have an idea, although every one of his games is different. When you start Root Double you have a choice between two routes, Root A and Root B. Root A is really suspenseful, it constantly throws the characters into more and more dangerous situations. Root B is more of a mystery and has a focuses much more on the characters (so far from what I read.) It is a really interesting story that I don't want to spoil. I would recommend it but only if you liked the Infinity series and know their style. -
How is 12Riven Translation Going?
fun2novel replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
Code_18 got bad reviews because it was that bad. It had the same director as 12Riven but the story was a bad ripoff of Steins;Gate. It's really isn't worth it. !2Riven also got a lot of complains and low scores but I think it's unjustified, this is a good story. -

My thoughts on Remember 11 (*SPOILERS*)
fun2novel replied to grim_tales1's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I never thought that the routes ware mundane. There was always something important going on in the story. The more you reread it the more you'll notice things you didn't see. It's amazing how detailed this vn really is. There were plans for a final third route but it never made it into the game. I'm sure we'd understand more about Mayuzumi in the last route, I just have a feeling the writer wouldn't leave any one undeveloped. -
alright, so now moving on to Hello Lady? I'm really curious what you have to say about this one.
-
Hell yeah!!! Finally something to make us laugh.

When I said fun to read, I mean enjoyable. Not in a happy go lucky kind of way, lol. Second, weren't Dies Irae and KKK also comlete? I guess if it is not in the same series then there won't be any rerelease with new and improved routes but who knows.

Sorry I was tired when I posted. What I meant to say is, I'm glad it didn't disappoint. And I have a hunch that they will have another more complete release of this. So it is not the same series? Well, I don't mind that. It still seems like a really fun vn.

If you want console games then there is the Yarudora series for the psx and ps2. There is also Dancing Blade for psx.

I've been waiting for your thoughts on Hachimyoujin. Glad it did disappoint. I have a suspect that a new updated more complete version will be released later, like of the games in this series.

Jellyfish games have animations

This is the most complex visual novel you guys will ever play. Just be glad you aren't playing this I Japanese.
-
Look, it's nothing personal. I just have, certain needs that I need to be satisfied.
-
Dark Ariel7, I like you but not in THAT way, lol.

This is going to be awesome. I already feel my Japanese improving. Today I watched a tv show and I understood like 90% of it. Imagine, no more waiting for translations of your favorite visual novels, no more hopping someone will pick up this one VN you want to play, YOU will decide what to read, YOU will decide what is worth your time, and YOU will have an infinite choice of VNs to play. Hope to hear from you soon.

It's been so long. Finally! It. Is. Done!

Even if you aren't fluent we can still help each other. By teaching and explaining things you also learn it and remember it better.

Basically I'm looking for a Japanese study partner to study Japanese through different methods with. Mostly it will be through visual novels. We will read a line, deconstruct, analyze it and try to understand it. This is much more fun than it sounds and I found this a great method to boost your Japanese to the next level. My level of Japanese is not high but it's not a total beginner level either. I have a good understanding of the grammar too. Please contact me if you would like to learn Japanese through visual novels (and games) with me. Or if you are already really good please help me and maybe I can help you in some other way. I look forward to our cooperation Edit: Doing this for about 30min per session (doesn't have to be everyday) will be great. This is enough to jet you to the next level in just a few weeks.

Do you read VN first or do you watch anime first? Why?
fun2novel replied to Okami's topic in Visual Novel Talk
It depends. Usually I'll choose just one and stick with it. Especially if the adaptation is very close to the original. I also think that it's too boring when you already know the story and you have to watch/read it again. Another reason is to avoid spoilers, if you watch the anime it will have all the major twists in it and there won't be any reason to play the vn. For example I didn't want to watch the Steins;Gate anime because I wanted to read the vn. After finishing the vn I wasn't interested in the anime, it was boring because I already knew what's going on. On the other hand if I don't have the time to read something and the anime is a good alternative I will watch the anime. Kanon 2006 is very close the it's source material and reading it will take a long time so I would prefer to watch the anime instead. Something Little Busters I would prefer to read than watch. So it just depends on personal preference I guess.
