I gave up halfway through the survey. Asking you to prioritise a list of things that have no meaning to you, or worse, that you don't even know, makes it impossible to even finish the survey for some of us. That and the question about "all ages and adult" releases is ambiguous as to whether it means making sure there are all ages versions as well, or making sure there are adult versions as well, or whether they are always to be both, or just releasing both when possible titles exist or... anyway it wasn't as clear as it first seemed.

I've never had Jasmine able to do anything at night outside of genie's home.

The wheel of time... he promised a decalogy initially and then at 14 volumes he died. He had said if he beat his cancer he would have kept writing them indefinitely without ending it. I actually made it to 10 hoping I would get out of that quagmire at last and then when it didn't end I was miserable. Thumbs down for that. Another series which was similar was the Wizard's First Rule. The story itself was spellbinding when I started reading it though the writing quality wasn't that great but somehow it didn't bother me. After 7 volumes I got sick and tired of it since the story didn't change and the writing didn't improve. First volume, highly recommended. A much better fantasy novel was Raymond Feist's original Magician. Great novel. No need to read the 50 billion volumes that come after it, although they were all much more original sequels than the previously mentioned series and he "finished" the series with Magician's End after 20 years.

I felt both of them had a bit of a grind to them after a while and even though witch trainer had very few characters and only one location, it was enjoyable to experience Hermione's descent over time. Still PT gold is a much more substantial game than WT and has many more hours of amusement. I certainly had fun and a few laughs.

Overall thoughts on Kanon and each of its routes.
ittaku replied to Yoyo's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Yui Horie is such a perfect Voice Actress that almost any anime she's in goes up a rating or two just by her presence. Glad you noticed how important she was to bringing Ayu to life (coincidentally her voice acting in Love Hina which you mentioned is THE reason I became addicted to anime.) -
Not sure if you guys are aware, but I think VN/Dating sim fans would enjoy the "Witch Trainer" and "Princess Trainer Gold Edition" by Akabur. They're like many of the training games out there with the emphasis on turning pure characters into more or less whores. The first being Hermione from Harry Potter and the second being Princess Jasmine. Free downloads, the artist's work is usually Patreon supported. Get them here: http://akabur.com/ Enjoy

Tons of great shows that deserve S2/3/4+ never get them, whilst other steaming piles of shit get lots of extra seasons. Unfortunately being good is neither a prerequisite nor a guarantee.

You misunderstand. The anime for haganai is an adaptation of the light novel story. Most anime are adaptations of manga, light novels or visual novels. If they continue haganai the anime, they will base it on what happens in the light novels and it turns to shit at the end.

What's bizarre about one punch man is everyone gets hard ons while talking about it, while after the initial grins I had with it I lost interest. The whole idea that he's super overpowered and can't lose a battle yet basically will remain treated like a street beggar just grates on my nerves. It stopped being funny after 3 or 4 episodes for me, but then my taste seems very different to others in that regard. Consider my opinion on it possibly unique in this world.

The difference is oregairu light novels are progressing nicely and will likely be concluded well whereas the haganai series the light novels are finished and the author fucked up the ending beyond all recognition so be glad there are no more haganai anime installments.

It's a delightful show with lots of interesting characters and is set in an agricultural school where you can tell the writers have done their work and researched well the details of the school and some of the lessons. Another thing that we like is the setting in Hokkaido in places that we've been to and the emphasis on awesome raw products from the region for food which we've experienced.

Finished watching silver spoon 1+2 with my wife. She loved it and I enjoyed it quite a lot too. Here's hoping a 3rd and final season isn't too far off.

That's been discussed earlier. Each of those series has a satisfying ending regardless of whether it's the end to the story or not. It's any show where you're left with that overwhelming happy glow feeling that you've watched something special in concert with the sense of satisfaction and slight emptiness that it's over. I angsted over whether I should have included incomplete shows or not, but then there are an infinite number of complete shows, or shows that can't bring themselves to ever finish, that leave you feeling pissed off, jaded, depressed, annoyed etc. which is why I wanted to compile this list and incomplete shows can still do it. What shiki do you mean?

Haven't watched chihaya yet but I'm looking forward to it after all the glowing reviews, but Nodame didn't work for me either thanks to Nodame herself. The relationship happens on a level I just can't sympathise or empathise with detracting from the main reason I watch shows.

Added Cardcaptor Sakura

I'm going to be careful to do this whole post without spoilers in case anyone else on earth like me hadn't seen this but anyway I've finally marathoned my way through the whole of Cardcaptor Sakura - the announcement that a new version was being made was the impetus for this. Luckily I was able to put up with the childish side of the whole magic to enjoy it for its characters and overall story, not to mention that ultimately it's a romance which I have the softest spot for. To be honest the reason I started watching it was there was a list of 10 best love confessions on ANN and this show was listed amongst them - though I luckily hadn't spoilt anything for myself by just looking at the titles of the shows rather than the actual characters involved in the confession. While I enjoyed it overall I found the second half to drag a bit compared to the first half but luckily the romance in the second half, which is a much stronger component than the first half, more than made up for it. I was especially surprised to see the topics it tackled in the storyline and now understand what I'd heard about from the original English release - that they could only use just over half the episodes for the thematic material and did lots of other changes. That really would have sucked as an incarnation since it was the bits outside the action that were the best part of the series. Even the subtitled version missed quite a few nuances thanks to dumbing down name order, honorifics etc. but not enough to detract from the story and execution. I found the following page which lists the differences and has lots of spoilers so I avoided it till now, and it's scary: http://frozen-wings.net/ccs/main.php?page=information/differences Anyway I'll be adding it to my ultimately satisfying series list since it meets the criteria there. Now back to a truckload of other backlog shows I have thanks to the recommendations thread I started.

Solution: Play 2 games at the same time. One long wordy VN low on the H content, and one nukige. After reading to the point of getting bored, fire up the nukige and get instant gratification. Though you need a reserve of nukiges to keep doing this since you'll burn it out faster than the long VN... though there's no lack of nukige to choose from.

[need awesome random anime :P]
ittaku replied to <-~[OtakuSenpai]~->'s topic in Anime/Manga Recommendations
If I'm not mistaken you don't have Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood listed there. If you watch one thing only from this recommendation thread, watch that as everyone must watch this masterpiece at least once in their life. -
Hmm.. I know enough Japanese to confidently say - if you knew Japanese, you'd roll your eyes at 99.9% of H scenes in Japanese. What they have in their favour is the audio; one can easily make out what they're saying in Japanese and when I'm translating those scenes I have to listen to try and figure out what they're saying since the written word means very little most of the time on its own. All in all this means that the localisation must go to more effort to make what's written understandable in its own right (as mentioned above). Making it obvious that they're speaking with their mouth full, or with an accent, or they're stuttering, or delirious when they speak is important, but without audio cues, it also has to still be understandable through reading the text alone.

I can't sympathise with this sentiment. As unfortunate as this is, this sentiment reeks of people having a soft spot for the companies that have existed so far. While we owe them an awful lot, it does not mean that this is a sustainable business model in the long term. Assuming the original VN company does a good job of localising it to English, and it becomes successful, they reap all the financial rewards from any English sales and they're more likely to localise all their future titles to English. The only ones that stand to lose from this are the companies that exist solely to localise Japanese material they didn't author in the first place. If the company creating the artwork in the first place gets the most profits from their own creation that's better for the industry at large, as it keeps them in business, and cuts out one middleman. That can only lead to more VNs and more localisation long term. I'm aware of how bad some attempts at localisation have been so far, but that doesn't mean it will always be that way. It's a learning process for them too.

Understood - however understand that one of the major reasons I love the anime is I love the VAs of all 4 main girls. They're just superb which alone makes the anime rate much better for me (I don't mean compared to the manga, just absolutely).

Oregairu for LNs - I'm dying for the rest of this, though I'm reading the LNs anyway, and Nisekoi for manga (yes I know others here hate it after season 1 but I love it) but it goes way too slowly in manga form for me to read it so I'm waiting completely blind on this one.

This is an exercise in futility. Machine translators are there to aid people who already know some Japanese. Knowing no Japanese the machine only serves to spew out meaningless gibberish. Where's that clock picture... someone's bound to post it shortly.

I find the ANN reviews quite reasonable and they do a blow-by-blow on a weekly basis as episodes come out. However my only criticism is they probably spend too much time explaining the story and not enough time critically appraising the shows though that doesn't matter that much since you'll only read those particular weekly reviews if you've seen the episode yourself and want to see what other people make of them. I try to rate each show's episodes as they come out and find the community's overall ratings not that dissimilar to my own. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/episode-review/
