I'm glad someone else felt the same way. Can't believe people raved about this show... I gave it up half way through.
-
I added a link to the list of my anime in the top post (I use ANN) just for reference, but unfortunately my list is incomplete since I didn't start it when I first started watching anime 20 years ago. I'm trying to remember and add to it over time. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=#844923&categ=3 I've also added Angel Beats since other people found it satisfying into the others group, even though I didn't find the ending that happy myself... it's more of the sort of positive sombre ending for me which doesn't fill my criteria.
-
Added railgun. I remember enjoying Index as well, but didn't recall having that ultimately satisfied feeling at the end, but it was also a long time ago.

LOLs how can anyone forget to mention Oreimo? RAAAAAGE. Also Negima. I scanlated that fucking manga for almost 200 chapters and our group eventually died unable to finish it off... yet it had the most nothing ending ever thanks to the mangaka being disgusted with his company or something and decided to troll them instead by having an unfinished finish after 300+ chapters. Every anime adaptation of it has been woeful. The first one started out okay and turned to shit by season 2 and every one after that got worse. Only the occasional OVA was any good... hardly doing the series justice but who cares since it never had a real ending.

Finished watching Girls und Panzer myself and have moved it from the others list to my recommended list. Great ending indeed
-
Good choice. That show was a lot of fun but desperately needs a sequel (like so many other good shows).
-
You forgot we could just breed some babel fish.
-
They left out the word "worse" between "words" and "in".

As already stated, there is no such thing as a good machine translator. One of the biggest problems is even calling them machine translators. They are only electronic dictionaries with rudimentary grammar deconstruction to figure out what verb conjugation is being used. It's used as an aid for someone who already understands some Japanese to begin with to aid with unfamiliar vocabulary, kanji, etc. Those who don't know Japanese and try to read/watch/play things in Japanese use text hookers and friends initially thinking this is going to be the godsend. Usually it doesn't take long to realise that what you're looking at doesn't remotely turn into even a tiny semblance of what's written in Japanese. Sorry, but true, good, machine translation is decades if not centuries away since it would need true artificial intelligence - and despite anything you read, we haven't even begun making real progress in that area.

Well that's how taste is. I guess I can add your show to the "others" recommended list, even though I've seen it myself and wouldn't include it in my own list. EDIT: Done. I've changed the category to explain why it's others. I feel similar for example about One Week Friends - a wonderful show and while the ending was pleasing in its own way, I did not feel ultimately satisfied since >spoilers go here< damn still no spoiler tags. I'd still recommend watching both shows, I just wouldn't give them that ultimate tag.

Pretty sure you're right. I've had my eye on him for a while too and he gets more suspicious with every episode. Besides, it's only logical that the murderer needs to be a character we know from somewhere in the story otherwise there's no dramatic tension and resolution if they end up being a character introduced that we've never heard of at the last moment.
-
I didn't mind that series Engaged to the Unidentified, and the end was pretty good but I can't say I'd put the ending in the same category as the ultimately satisfying ones listed here.
-
Woah woah woah don't get me wrong - romance is by far and away my most preferred genre, and I'm pretty sure I've fapped to Chidori myself. I've got these on BD (even though they are lousy upscales). I was just saying it's still a harem, even if it's only barely a background feature (except in the OVA).
-
Don't want to throw in too many spoilers (for the remaining one person on the planet who hasn't watched this masterpiece) but there most definitely was romantic interest in S2 (remember Chidori going to China?). And let's not forget the OVAs for S2+. New season (basically no details yet): http://anilist.co/anime/21451/FullMetalPanic!%28Shinsaku%29

LOL make up your mind. Well yeah they both deserve to be in the top post (but not fumoffu). BTW there's a new season finally scheduled. I'll fap to that.
-
Well they are indeed great shows, but... unresolved harem as per top post (I know it's an action series but it's still a harem). Oh and no way would I call fumoffu's ending ultimately happy or satisfying (though I never knew a hair cut could be so erotic).
-
Ehhhh? I'm not sure where the "happy" line is in your emotional fulfilment spectrum, but that show sounds terribly sad.
-
Thanks very much. Nagi no Asukara is already on the list (A lull in the sea) but I'll add the others. I'd already started gosick so this makes me happy
-
LOL fair enough. I don't mind pointless either... given To Heart 2 is my staple from translating the VN and never goes anywhere in anime but I still love all the TH2 OVAs. But let's try and find more awesome endings for this thread at least.
-
Season 1 sort of had a rather happy ending, but it's nothing like the feeling you get at the end of the other shows I've listed. Season 2... much less so. So if I'm trying to compile a list of shows that give you that warm uplifting happy satisfied feeling, only season 1 might qualify IMO (fwiw I enjoyed first half of S2 as well but felt the melodrama of the second half was mostly pointless).
-
Thanks for the recommendations. I haven't deleted Usagi so if I have time I might return to it. I currently have 35 series on the go so it might be a while before I get to check out your suggestions or go back to usagi... Any fanservice is an instant nono for my wife by the way - at most a bathtub/onsen scene in context but nothing more.
-
Dammit your taste is sounding more and more like mine. SAO went downhill after the 1st half of season 1. Season two was mostly crap. It hurts because that first half of S1 was truly awesome.
-
I can't argue against sao (though I have reservations about sao in general for other reasons). Never watched FZ. Danmachi has the unresolved harem which makes me feel otherwise. Maybe I should split complete from incomplete series... it's just that ultimately satisfying series are rare enough as is.
-
I did think long and hard before adding it by the way. Look carefully in my opening post as it doesn't say a completed series but just a satisfying enough end. It's a matter of having a satisfying enough ending to an existing series. While ideally it's a series that has gone to completion with a satisfying ending, as a standalone anime series, season 1 of Rakudai definitely qualifies in my opinion. If they never get funding for the rest of the story in anime, it doesn't change the fact that season 1 (or the only season, depending on what happens) is ultimately satisfying standalone as is.
-
Thanks. If there's that much controversy over the ending I can hardly recommend it as an ultimately happy ending then. I'll leave it off the list.
