  1. Bearing in mind that a show has to either be awesome and uplifting and mostly funny for my wife to enjoy it... Watched season 1 of Natsume. It was okay but nothing special for me so I'm not watching any more seasons and not gonna bother watching it with my wife. Seto No Hanayome was pretty good and silly funny which works for my wife so we watched that one through and she loved it. Bamboo blade was good throughout but not that funny so I won't bother re-watching it with my wife. Usagi Drop is cute but not awesome and it isn't funny enough so it's dropped. Shirobako only seen one episode so far too early to tell Haikyuu was great fun, but it's not complete so I'll wait till S2 is finished and then rewatch it with my wife. Mouretsu pirates is okay but not really that funny so I'll finish it but won't bother with the wife watch. Bokura was fun and at some stage will rewatch with my wife. What I'm planning to watch with her next are: Nichijou, School Rumble and Azumanga Daioh before moving to some of the others I've screened. (BTW my wife has enjoyed Nisekoi so far as well). Screening Girls Und Panzer and Btoom next.
  2. I enjoyed it. You can't change that fact.
  3. I assume you are basing this recommendation on the ending. I haven't watched this series but everything I read about it says it was a gruesome thing to watch through and then has a totally off-the-wall ending. Reviews like this don't make it sound very appealing to watch: http://www.nihonreview.com/anime/school-days-3/ Since I was asking specifically about satisfying endings I guess this fits the criteria (assuming it felt like it was worth the effort to watch to the end to get the ending). Ratings on it seem to be wildly variable, looking like a binomial distribution of people thinking it's either shit or awesome.
  4. Fair enough Oh and as for Madoka... hrm where the fuck did the spoiler tags go in the edit function. Well without spoilers, I still got a warm feeling about it.
  5. Add both, then removed Monster. Thanks.
  6. Doesn't matter for as an anime, Nisekoi standalone is still a very enjoyable experience for those of us who don't want to invest in the manga. Like FTB I'll wait till an inevitable 3rd season comes out to wrap things up, so long as it does wrap things up and there are enough spoilers scattered all over the freaking place on this forum to see that it is wrapping things up. You know who I'm looking at...
  7. This is a tricky request because some of the best romantic endings are unexpected romances in the many that I've listed there in shows that weren't obviously romances in the beginning so revealing that would be a spoiler. Having said that, as a minor spoiler, most of my recommended list in the first post are romances which is often the reason I've enjoyed their endings.
  8. I definitely agree, but I'm looking for series specifically.
  9. Taste issues with those first two I'm afraid. Angel beats no way for me... I didn't consider that ending happy. Clannad I disliked and dropped. But I guess it has a happy ending so I'll add to bottom list. Code Geass I've never watched but you said it wasn't happy.
  10. Sakurasou yes, I'll add that. Guilty crown... I stopped watching since it didn't gel with me.
  11. I'm trying to collate a list of anime series with those sort of ultimately satisfying endings that make you happy to have watched a series right through to the end, and the ending is complete enough that you know that a sequel isn't necessary to feel fulfilled. I'm only interested in shows with HAPPY endings, not kinda positive sombre ones, and no unresolved freaking harems. I want the sort of endings that make you feel a little depressed that the show is over but happy with the conclusion. The shows themselves don't even need to be awesome, but to have a very good ending which makes it better overall. More marks if they brought tears (of joy) to your eyes. Now I realise that people's opinions on what constitutes a satisfying ending will be vastly different from person to person and that's okay, but if you wish to debate the reasons something may not be ultimately satisfying, please put it in spoiler tags. Successful romance is a big plus but not essential. I don't remotely claim to have watched all anime ever so one of my main reasons for doing this is to find other shows to watch - since my bias is towards romances there's likely a lot of action shows I'm missing here. Here's a list off the top of my head. I'll add more as I remember, and I might add other people's to this top post if we start getting some consensus. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have! Here's a link to my completed anime that I can remember. My list is incomplete since I didn't start it when I first started watching anime 20 years ago...: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=Ittaku&categ=3 The first on the list is not listed alphabetically because it's my reference for the greatest anime ever on all levels so gets a special mention. 12. No. They're set in the same universe but are virtually unrelated and To Heart 2 is a standalone story and much better. If you want a teacher route, there's 2 in Amorous Professor Cherry. This game also has an official localisation, whereas To Heart 2 is my personal translation project and while the translation is complete, the editing is still in beta so make sure you get the latest beta patch and accept it will still be a little rough in places.
  13. To heart 2 has two older girl routes: Kousaka Tamaki and Kusugawa Sasara. The former is an imposing older sister character and the latter a sensitive Senpai character.
  14. That's precisely what I don't want to experience, so thanks for the warning. Real life is bad enough, and I'm too old to experience what amounts to aggravated teenage angst all over again as though it's bringing me some kind of enlightenment any more (I felt different 30 years ago). Anime is where I go to escape these days, not to remind me of what I hate about the real world.
  15. I'm not disagreeing with you at all on that. As a journey it was very well executed. My problem is... it's not the sort of journey I enjoy.
  16. This is great, I love how vastly different everyone's tastes are Nice to see what they consider as the best example of what fits their taste.
  17. In response to this thread: where people were raving about Shinsekai Yori, I felt obliged to watch this through. I can see why people were raving about it since the production quality and execution is very good. However I think there's a tendency to overrate shows (in my opinion) that are dark, horrific, nasty, unpleasant, shocking, disturbing... etc. but that just doesn't resonate with me. This show started out dark and just remained dark throughout the whole thing. There wasn't much in the way of emotional journey besides remaining dark from start to end and, I hate to say it, but it was mostly predictable, right up to the conclusion, even if the writing and execution was very good 8/10. Still rates well overall though, but not in my top 5. I certainly wouldn't want to sit through it again.
  18. Stella from Rakudai. Red hair, red eyes, big boobs, twin tails, hair ribbons, stockings, Zettai Ryouiki, very powerful and only barely a Tsundere that is open about her own desires. (Mio from shinmai maou no testament is also a similar character but Stella and Rakudai wins)
  19. Any VN that turns me into one of those superhumans that can have permanent boners on demand and infinite successive ejaculates that put out a litre of semen every time.
  20. Not really. Hentai is just 2D regular porn. It is not surprising that anything that even has a hint that it might sexualise children is considered not worth the risk of such a high profile online service in the west. Just because the author, reviewer, readers and most of Japan don't think this is pedo porn, doesn't mean that the west won't see it as such.
  21. Alright I'll add some more then. My top 5 of the last 5 years. Rakudai no Kishi Madoka Magica Wagnaria 1/2/3 Oregairu 1/2 Nagi no Asukara EDIT: Looks like I better watch shinsekai...
  22. Is there a reason people are specifically listing 5? The question was last 5 years, not top 5... /me shrugs
  23. Last 5 years? Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry AKA Chivalry of a Failed Knight
  24. What's unfortunate is that this shouldn't even be newsworthy. Most people who demand a more literal translation are those who only understand a little Japanese and think that the translation isn't conveying the original meaning because they get hung up on grammar and words and essentially aren't understanding what is being conveyed to native Japanese speakers. The most telling part is that when a translator's native language is English, the more Japanese they know, the more natural sounding English their translation is.
