  1. There's definitely some overlap, but I don't think it's too big a problem -- it's okay to own two hammers and use them both for different things. A rising tide lifts all ships. Fuwa has a ton of services and features (and new/upcoming features) that aren't found on VNDB and which are a lot different from what you'd find on other sites. (Plus we continue to experiment on new features and bring some innovation to the VN scene, and will continue to do so, so I'd imagine the overlap will decrease with time and everybody will benefit)
  2. No official PMs have been sent out about this program, so if you've received one it's probably from an outside group which is trying to co-opt the idea. It's annoying that anybody would do that, but here we are. I'm more or less going to go down the list. Almost anyone who signed up to be a mentor who fit the qualifications can give it a shot. Lastly -- I posted about it on FB and already we've received several applications. Woot!
  3. Hello everyone (especially new users and new players)! As I announced in the community boards, we're going to try a VN player mentoring program, where experienced VN players can help newer players find, play, and enjoy games. The barrier to entry for the hobby is still pretty high -- there's no shame in that -- and we want to help you out. Let me explain how it works: Step 1. Want a mentor? Sign up! If you'd like some help finding games, or think you'd benefit from having somebody to answer some of your questions, or you just want somebody to nerd-out with about the VN you're playing, then sign up for this program. To do so, Send an email to [fuwanovel @ gmail . com] with the email's subject line being "Mentor Program" Include your internet name and how much experience with VNs you've already had Tell me if you're signed up on the Fuwanovel forums (and if so, what your username is) *Very important* Let me know how you want your mentor to contact you. The best two options are by Fuwanovel forums PMs, or by email. *Very important* tell me what you'd like from the program: help finding/playing games, wanting somebody to be around if you have any questions, or wanting somebody to "nerd-out" with you or have discussions with you about the VN(s) you're playing Step 2. A few player mentors will contact you Once I get your application I'll send you a brief reminder of the program rules (see below) so you know what to expect, and then forward your contact info to a couple of player mentors. Each of them will send you an PM or email (depending on your preferences) introducing themselves, and they'll also give you a link to a special guidebook for people in the VN Mentors Program. Step 3. After the first contact, make of the program what you will After this first email from your mentor, Fuwanovel isn't really involved anymore and you're free to make of the program whatever you'd like. Your player mentors are there to answer questions, give recommendations, and help you find your next game. We don't want to make the program too rigid -- the idea is to connect you with experienced VN players who want to help you out and who aren't going to give you grief while you're learning the landscape. The Rules Both the mentor and mentee have the right to cancel their interaction at any time, and when you sign up to be a mentor/mentee you agree to abide by this. If the other party says they don't want any more communication, you must honor that If you need another mentor/group of mentors, talk to Tay or send an email to the email address listed up above Absolutely no harassment is permitted from either party This program isn't meant to be rigid or a comprehensive, polished product. We're all here for a hobby, and the goal is to connect you to players who can help you get started.
  4. (Sign me up for emotional support once you kick this off!)
  5. We owned a Sega. My neighbor owned a SNES. Sonic was cool, but he was no Megaman. Or Mario. Or Ninja Turtles.
  6. I think if anything you'll see more activity here. We've got patching guides on our radar, and more new users than ever are going to be using this section of the site.
  7. Nay saved the day once again. Thank you! To import your your youtube uploads feed, you'll put the following into the feed importer: https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/base/users/USERNAME/uploads?prettyprint=true&alt=rss&v=2 Replace the all-caps "USERNAME" with your youtube username.
  8. Calling the Knowledgeable: I need help! Something we were just talking about and which I imagine a lot of users are going to want to do with the new blog system, is importing youtube upload feeds into their Fuwa blogs. (You can find a youtube channel's feed by going here and entering your username/usercode which isn't usually very tidy (ex: "UCIIgZL8mXl7vOGWKDGfi-eg")) Here's the problem: the feed that you get doesn't have the channel function required by our RSS feed software. Here's the Kinda Funny feed as an example: https://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/gameovergreggy/uploads Does anybody know if it's possible to get other types of RSS feeds from youtube? Any ideas for solutions?
  9. Due to my schedule I end up playing on portable gaming devices much more often than on a PC or console. I play my 3DS all the time. I'm a proud Vita owner and will defy any lewy who slanders its name. And I've got a little windows tablet for VNs. It's awesome being able to pull out games at a moment's notice, de-stress for five minutes, and then be able to jump back into real life.
  10. (Hid topics) Ok, guys. Quit it. This topic is in the GD board to prevent this kind of derailing. Back on topic, please.
  11. Let's get back to the topic, please
  12. It's got several features which are beyond my expertise which I disabled temporarily, so, yeah, for the moment it's more or less an identical experience to posing formats on the forums. We'll tweak and improve it with time, though, if people enjoy the app : )
  13. Probably a setting I missed. I'll give it a go in a bit. Thanks, Nosebleed.
  14. Possibly. I'm kind of starting to detox from the last 6 days of FuwaMadness, but if you need me, holler. (PS: You should have access to blog app now, along with a couple other users)
  15. That's an awesome question, Ren. I have no idea. Want access to try it out right now?
  16. Hey everybody, I wanted to let you know that the forums blog feature is going live sometime this weekend after I've had a chance to detox from the last six days : P. There are a lot of cool features to enjoy: Once I check in with Tiago for a list of names, all the Ongoing Projects devs will have free posting permissions in two blogs: Dev Board Updates, and Project Recruitment. These are going to be integrated into the Fuwazette feed and should also show up on one of the sidebars at FuwaReviews. The way I'm managing the RSS feeds isn't ideal atm, so look forward to increased optimization soon. The Fuwa Recognition team (project leader will be chosen in next 2 days) will also have a blog which will integrate with the "Cool features/people/projects" feed on the Fuwazette as well as show up in the forums index sidebar. This'll get us a step closer to better recognizing all of the amazing work and effort done by so many here on the site You can start your own blog hosted by us, simply post a link to your blog (which will still show up in the blog list), or have your blog import an RSS feed from your blog elsewhere on the interwebs If you want to start a group blog, you've got two options: start a "personal" blog and add other authors/editors to it, or you can contact an admin with a proposal, and we'll make it for you (group blogs must be done via the ACP if you want them to work correctly, but we'll need to talk about one small issue with the group avatar which may come up as a result). IP Board (Invision) keeps hyping a "Private Clubs" feature which I'm a little skeptical about. Not because I'm against it, but because it's kind of a weird way to use the new app. We can give it a try, in any case, and see how that goes. I'll be doing one or two test cases before opening up this option to the broader community. You can read more about the features here: https://www.invisionpower.com/apps/blog/
  17. Yep, we're redesigning and retooling it right now.
  18. Working on it, but yeah, the test group will probably self-select for planetarian, KS, Narcissu, or other licensed games. Kind of depends on who signs up. I'll keep you posted.
  19. I'll ping the dev.
  20. Uh, uhm, er... Sorry, Rooke, post 41 is an unlucky number in... somewhere... and so i can't accept your application. But anybody else can apply -- just not the guy on, ehm, unlucky post 41.
  21. The volunteers keep coming! Wonderful! I've attached a brief outine of how this trial run is going to work. We won't start it until next week, but I'd like to put it out there in case anybody has any thoughts they'd like to input (plus I think I answered a lot of the questions in there). One question I know I didn't get to asked if part of the mentorship program would require mentors to hawk Fuwanovel products/sites. The answer is pretty simple: part of your job is to give your mentee a little pdf guidebook, and yes, I've included a blurb in there about each Fuwanovel site. So in that sense, yes you do, but I don't think that's unreasonable considering where they're getting the free guidebook : P. Other than attaching that to the first email/posting a link in your first PM, your only obligation in my mind if Fuwa comes up in the conversation is to fairly speak your mind (good, bad, neutral, whatever you might feel about that part of the site). My main priority is to make this a good experience for you and your mentee. Relax, be open, be yourself, and be friendly. Fuwa neither requires nor needs blood oaths : P.
  22. http://kotaku.com/thanks-obama-for-the-anime-photoshops-1686721914 Also announcing that I'm putting this on hold for a week. The Batman-impersonator option clearly won, but as of this morning I have oodles and oodles of new material to sort through (including 17 contacts from the same guy who clearly doesn't understand how IP addresses work) and I should probably focus my time on, y'know, cool new stuff instead of trying to impress Flutterz day in and day out.
  23. That's a great plan. We've got some cool things in the works for keeping people up to date about pc games but also mobile, mac and linux (the oft neglected children : P). Be sure to keep an eye on things to help us know when we've found things that "work" : )
  24. For goodness' sake, the Tay plotlines are going nowhere. Here. Enjoy this 60sec trailer (never coming to a theater near you!): [black screen. Speaking on top of string-heavy, elusive music] Long, long, ago the third age, Aaeru forged 141 torrents. One-hundred-and-thirty-nine of them for the humans, one of them to get lost in the Fuwa admin system, and one to rule them all (#FSN #Sakurabestgirl). The story of Tay -- a tyrant who was clearly hell-bent on ruining everyone's day -- gathering the rings torrents and throwing them into the chasm of mount doom a full recycle bin (< 3 lewy) is well known and boring. But remember... there was another torrent... A lost torrent... [scene opens on the shire, flashes to 2 figures amid temple ruins] Join Flutterz and Marie as they come upon the Forgotten Torrent while searching the ruins of the 2013 general discussion threads. [still in temple, ground begins to rumble] Gasp in horror when you learn The Dark Secret -- Fuwanovel's deep dark secret -- hidden within the torrent. [up-close shot of Flutterz's determined face] Together they will face the unknown, for they know nothing of the path before them, only their destination: the city of Forums, where they must share this secret with others to save the world. [Panoramic shot of four persons and one person dressed up and shuffling on all fours hiking on mountaintops] Experience the intrigue as they team up with a mysterious dark ranger named Batman, an Archer named Kendjin, and their lovable pet, Stray Cat. [scene of a massive battle at the foot of an erupting volcano] Shiver in horror as they face the undead armies of the heartless, vita-less Lich King Lewy [scene atop a castle, Flutterz runs to balcony and begins to scream to the people] Flutterz: "Citizens of Forums! People of Fuwanovel! You have been deceived! You have been lied to." [Flutterz takes a deep breath, camera slowly zooms] "The truth is that Aaeru is a --" [Cut to red screen, white text flashes] "This user has been permanently banned" [Ominous Laughter booms overhead]
  25. (I'm done for now, sorry to have kept changing it on you). Pro tip: Clicking "Forums Apps" will take you to the forums index. This isn't a final layout -- I'm just testing new forum software on several themes.
