Takeru becomes a whiny edgelord due mostly to CHOMP and scenes around that time, while Shinji is more a critical examination of the psychological problems that a stereotypical mech anime protagonist would normally have. That being said, you'd probably hate Shinji. and Evangelion by extension.

Clannad is one of the most depressing non-utsuges out there in my opinion. There's a lot of good romance in it, but the Kappei, Kyou, and Tomoyo routes have some hardcore drama stuff in them. It's not as bad as, say, Rewrite, but it's still not "lighthearted". And that's not even starting on After Story... Da Capo is good from what I've heard, but the archetypes are though the roof on that one. Look at the character list, and see if it's bad enough that you don't want to go though it. Based on your list, I'd recommend Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~, but that's about as far from what you're asking for as you can get.

Aselia is pretty good. Umineko is technically on sale, but it's still like $21, since it's a newer release. Aselia's also nice since you pay 10 bucks for a 30+ hour long game.

It has a good story, but it's not worth playing through the translation. I'd wait until the full retranslation patch is released.

This game just gives off all sorts of pandering vibes to me that make me uncomfortable with the people declaring "at least it's better than IMHHW"! I'll wait before passing any more judgement on this game, though I probably won't be picking it up due to the heroines alone-honestly, who designed those characters?

Of course it is. That doesn't change the fact that the all-ages games that are actually successful in Japan are few and far between. You get things like Clannad and Umineko occasionally, sure. But if you sell an all-ages game in Japan and the West by a completely unknown studio with equal publicity in both countries, Steamfriends will probably buy more copies than the Japanese will.

The issue here is that this is a Japanese game made by a Japanese developer, so it'll probably be released in Japan. The Japanese are notorious for never buying anything without ero, so I wouldn't be surprised if it gets an 18+ release. Besides, have you see the art? That's nukige art if I've ever seen it.

Besides, for this particular company, what Fuwa thinks isn't particularly important. What is important is what the Steam userbase thinks, and I'm worried about them. KonoSora was a success, to put it mildly, and I don't much appreciate us getting censored nukige rather than anything actually worthwhile. That being said, if the all-ages version is released on MangaGamer again, I'll probably commit suicide.

According to VNDB, there are 413 VNs with imoutos and 337 with anekis. So while imoutos are more common, (because they're an eroge trope,) onee-sans are definitely not dying out. After all, you need them to balance out the filthy lolicons.

Definitely. If you want an actual opinion on a VN, I'd recommend only using the VNDB scores as a rough outline. Look at the tags, EGS scores, and most importantly, written reviews before deciding "this game is shit" or "this game is the second coming of Jesus Christ".
