  1. ADLSGHDFIGDF BLASTED DANBOORU gimme a sec I will fix my original post....
  2. I tried to resist the DIABEETUS....but failed!! :x
  3. The spoiler button, when expanded, becomes only a tiny box that doesn't expand to the whole length of the forum post provided. Like so: Does anyone know how to fix this??
  4. This is the first I have heard of the blog going offline! How.....interesting~ I've been away for yoinks (busy prepping for exams etc) so I don't really know what's going on.... but I'm getting its all just as planned with Tay, who CLEARLY seems to know something but remains doggedly silent about the specifics. No doubt he fears to do otherwise will threaten his nefarious schemes for world domination, ultimate intelligence, infinite amounts of pie, and goodness knows what else.... Eh well, I suppose all we can do is wait~
  5. LOOOOOOLLLLLL I do feel speshul~ have a +rep for making me laugh
  6. Wondered where you'd been. Get well soon, looking forward to your return!
  7. I'd eventually watched it after everyone's constant natter about how this had "revolutionised" the Mahou Shoujo genre piqued my interest in it. Everyone makes a big deal about the "twist" in ep3 that comes along, but it wasn't the only thing that it should be known for, I think, on hindsight. Things like Kyuubey's unnaturally constant persuasion, his very creepy unchanging expression, Madoka's reluctance to buy anything he said - there was enough of a build up for me to accept that the creators hadn't just shoved it in there for mere shock value. Am a fan of the ending as well. imo there's also something very special about how unremarkable Madoka's personality is. She is not clever, or intellectual, charismatic, or particularly outstanding in any other way. And yet, consider this: tl;dr: Yeah. Consider myself a fan~
  8. A splendiforous 2013 tp everyone at Fuwanovel! May the new year bring new successes for the VN community and more~ zomg welcome back mate, happy new year to you too~
  9. LOL I've only done the EoSD one though. If you've gotten the PCB one, do upload it because I don't have it myself!
  10. @Aaeru: No big rush to d/l it NOW-now, I'll prolly leave the links active for next week. So that those who want them can get them from here, before they've been properly uploaded to the site! So @everyone else: get 'em while they're hot!
  11. Salut, Aaeru~ Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 700ish MB in total. Let me know of problems! Pls also let me know when you've dl-ed it because I delete it to save space on where I uploaded it soonish....
  12. As much as its fun to push the boundaries and experiment, I'd caution against becoming one of those people who end up experimenting JUST for the sake of experimenting - just because they're trying to make a show of being adventurous, or different. imo any experiment you undertake must promise the possibility of shedding new light on whatever you are experimenting on. It most art that is how best to create something beautiful, wonderful, and perfect. Of course, if you consider your own experiment of how adventurous and different you can be as being beautiful, wonderful and perfect, then that's perhaps another matter altogether .... So someone asked: is audio necessary? Well, check this out~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUJagb7hL0E
  13. I've got the EoSD Touhou VN, this one: http://vndb.org/v3192 Would you guys like me to send you the files? imo it's a brilliant VN - though loses some of its charm during translation because alot of its jokes are only funny in Japanese. That said the translators did a very thorough job of making sure they were all clearly explained, making it an excellent resource to study if you want some insight into traditional Japanese humour.
  14. Hahahha I rmb there was a version in which there was like ONE guy "singing" all the parts for this and it was really good lol! You've made me want to listen to it now~ Now THIS is the reason why I said MADs are difficult to define. I suppose purists would argue that one isn't a MAD because they more typically don't use such smooth transitions from scene-to-scene, and have elaborate embedding. That being said though, NicoVideo has many vids that don't share these features, yet are labelled MADs. Meh, screw the definitions. I say just keep posting your favourite fanvids! I've not watched Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei but you don't need to to recognise that that is one SWEET vid. Def going to check out that anime now!
  15. Do you by that mean: -that there are Russian sites already out there that cater to spreading these Japanese style VNs to a Russian audience? (in which case maybe we should affiliate ourselves with them?) OR -that there is such a thing as "a Russian VN", which is completely different to the VNs that we know of? (in which case please link as I would love to have a look!) I support this idea. Corporate websites represent this by having a small pic of the country's flag captioned by its language. So maybe we might put a little China flag captioned by "中文" (Chinese) on each page, and link it to a Chinese translation of said page? (Or take the lazy way out and link it to a google translate facilityl!)
  16. Very nice~ Katawa Shoujo and for the second, Fate/Zero with a rather original art style! I know a site that does badges for not-very-expensive....would like to create more, so am always on the lookout for round images as well~ EDIT: Found the badge site: http://www.badgeplanet.co.uk/index.asp Not sure how the shipping costs work out for international though....
  17. The way you put it, it sounds suspiciously like a case of the attitudes that people have towards other "deviant" sexual practices like homosexuality. You're probably right and I guess I shouldn't be surprised - it's not something people understand, and when people don't understand it, any reason to ostracise them will be used. We who are mature enough to tell the difference between fact and fiction tend to hold this truth as self-evident and perhaps to a certain extent it is. But we need to understand why people think like this. Put it this way - we're discussing VNs in a forum about VNs, so it's reasonable to assume that we like VNs and would do the same IRL. I've got a Youtube that showcases piano videos, so it's reasonable to assume I like playing it and that I do it a lot IRL. So if people end up spending loads of time looking at (what looks like) naked children, people tend to jump to conclusions pretty fast.... It's indicative of how fiercely protective society tends to be of its young, which tend to be more vulnerable. It actually does - again, another indicator of how protective society is of its more vulnerable young. That being said I think you raised an excellent point by mentioning mass media influence with big boobs and all. The thing is there are certain periods in life during which people should be thinking more about what new things they're going to learn in school tomorrow as opposed to how big their boobs are. So in a way, it does make sense that crimes against the young would be punished more, since while the 18yo has reached sexual maturity, the 15yo hasn't even started learning about it - so the consequences against her would be even more dire. I also note how here in the UK, a few years back there was a great debate about how the media had over-glamourised super-skinny "size-zero" models, which had encouraged normal, healthy girls to lose unhealthy amounts of weight and become anorexic. There's also been a lot of controversy over how over-idealised Barbie dolls sold to kids could be conveying the same message. So many worries people have to deal with nowadays aside from their normal everyday lives! Studies have actually shown how the age of sexual maturity is actually becoming increasingly early over time (ie, kids are literally, having to "grow up faster"). If I totally had it my way, I'd restrict depictions of sexual activity quite heavily, though I acknowledge this isn't something that can be solved by another set of stupid laws. I think the problem is one with modern society - and highlights it as a very worrying state of affairs!!
  18. On Censorship I think Japan has some laws that make it mandatory - even in works depicting obvious and graphic sexual activity otherwise. Doesn't make sense personally if you ask me - any damage that could be done by looking at porn won't be undone if certain parts aren't visualised... That said, Moekou did explain this law is still in effect only because of the conservative Japanese mindset: On International Laws on Paedophillia I'm unsure if there is anything *international*, but as far as I can recall I don't know of a single country that hasn't already written it into the law somehow. Most commonly this is done by declaring that consent to sexual activity by anyone under 18 cannot be taken as "valid" - hence why anyone who attempts sexual activity with minors has categorically committed a criminal offence, even if the child supposedly "agreed". It could of course be argued that there are some very mature minors that should be allowed to make the decision without fear of repercussions, but this is the exception to the rule. When you consider the damage that could be done by the act to kids who aren't mature enough, it's better to err on the side of caution, hence why I feel this is a sensible law to have. On Lolis in VNs The subject of underage girls comes up so often in in the VN fanbase, and with it the associated term "lolicon", that the question of paedophillia arises alot. However, given the severity of the term "paedophile", I think it's important that people not using it lightly, and understand the differences between the two terms. To be perfectly honest, I think some of Japan's fascination with girls with supposedly underage proportions is cultural. I'm not sure what's the best way to explain this but my friend did one mention: Oriental girls don't look to age as fast as Western girls do. I don't know whether or not there's much actual truth behind that statement, but it's interesting to note how people seem to think Orientals in general more petite, and indeed to some, they have smaller breasts (hence the "pettanko" or flat-chest). And if my years of lurking in other fancircles is anything to go by, some people do like to make as if body proportion auto-equates to loli, or, indeed, IRL underage. Let's be clear on this, it doesn't - Zero no Tsukaima's Louise Valliere doesn't lose a few years of age just 'cos goes so well with her.. I think the same argument also applies to personality. People seem to think only underage girls are the only people who can feel confused, vulnerable and need protection. Again, this is blatantly untrue (and if it isn't consider myself 6 years old). Obviously, in VNs, just making someone appear childlike can accentuate these traits hence why everyone in VNs who are like that just so happens to be "loli". Honestly speaking, most "lolis" imo act WAAAAY older than what they are stated to be - both in terms of raw intelligence and emotional maturity. tl;dr: I think it's important people be clear about what they like. Fiction has ways of accentuating reality - don't confuse them with real life! As long as people bear that in mind, as far as I'm concerned the whole preferences thing becomes as inconsequential as declaring you like people with glasses, underwear of a certain colour, and long dark hair!
  19. DENPA-VOCALIST JUN-CHAAAAN <333333 xP A formal welcome to Fuwanovel to you, good to have you around! Keep with the covers too, am looking forward to the next one~
  20. Thing is, Japan is (in)famous for its ultra-conservative outlook and intolerance for people who stand out. I was surprised when it was mentioned in another thread how the school also tries to enact this - sometimes with rather draconian consequences! Aaeru's statement on schools being "government re-education camps" I assume was pointed towards Western cultures, but it's quite sad that it seems to apply here as well... So I wouldn't be surprised if schools COULD do that somehow. Even if not with a direct eviction order, it feels like a statement from the school suggesting it will be taken seriously enough such that even if eviction doesn't ensue, something WILL be done about the "problem" in the end. That being said, who gets the last word on what is actually done? I assume the parents would be the default - but what about in cases where the child is left alone, like, y'know with the parents away on some business trip (as always seems to be the case in VNs or anime)? Does anyone who's familiar with the system there know the answer??
  21. Mad Vids are basically fanmade videos inspired by a series (anime or VN). They are more than AMVs (anime music videos), as they often feature elaborate video editing. It's difficult to define it beyond that, so here's an example from Chuunibyou... ...and one from Little Busters~ They're usually (but not invariably) produced by the Japanese fanbase so most can be found on NicoNico, but the best tend to get ported over to YouTube. Share and discuss your favourites here!
  22. Is Romance Necessary in a VN? I actually did a post in that H-Scenes topic that alludes to this (HERE). (Ignore the list of loves there btw; Supah Kawaii Weeaboo's list above is more comprehensive.) Inscrutable philosophical dilemmas aside though, I note that while there are many people who declare that they play a VN for H-Scenes, you won't find anyone who says they play VNs for relationships (of any sort, romantic or otherwise). I think that's an interesting finding - it suggests to me that romantic love isn't something you can force. Everyone here has placed much emphasis on how important it is that they not be forced - and indeed, most times you end up "feeling" for a character, it's never really something you expected per se. It just so happened that it ended up that way! In common parlance, this, I think, it what it means when people say fate brought us together~ But, see, here's the thing. In VNs, it's never a case of true coincidence that people end up together. All VNs have a story, some form of adversity that needs to be solved. Solving this adversity with someone strengthens your bonds with that person - whether you choose to admit it or not! Those who already like each other find the feeling deepened; and those who don't, well, find they don't have a choice BUT to end up working together - and end up the same way anyway. tl;dr: Like most others I am not one who plays VNs actively seeking a relationship of any form. However, if there are any VNs that go against the general pattern that I outlined above, I would be very interested to have a look~ EDIT You don't necessarily need to get involved with a relationship to find happiness, you know~ Well jokes aside I agree with everyone else that considering the amount of character development it'd need, I imagine such a scenario difficult to write well. However, if someone proved up for the challenge, I'd love to take a look!
  23. Erm, is this 40k visitors since the site was set up or per day?
  24. Hey Meru do you think you could show a photo of one of those unboxed? I've always wondered what the inside of a physical VN box set looked like~
  25. @Ryoji: It comes before you get to the good bit of the good end - think it corresponds with Ch 5 in Tay's diagram above. (light spoiler)
