I think that alot of people roleplay a VN protagonist, not only the major Otaku's. But it isnt like roleplaying a VN character means they are getting laid IRL lol. I personally roleplay a protagonist, doesnt mean I need to watch 20 minutes of "girls are so soft" "your breasts are soft" "mmmm" "onee chan your penis is so..." oh wait.

Wouldnt this imply that all VN's are porn first and a story second? We arent really talking about Nukige here, and if it is nukige most of us kind of accept that we arent going to get that much of a story and that there will be lots of random sex scenes. No, people are saying that if it doesnt fit in the story and feels like it has been hamfisted in to allow random Otaku to fap to it, why is it in the game. Not that it absolutely has to be important. That being said I personally prefer a h-scene to have some kind of meaning. Lots of VNs are trying to tell a pretty deep and meaningful story, what use is there for a bunch of pointless sex scenes. As an alternative example take the Lord of the Rings trilogy (a very different example I know and impossible given the market that it is being released for), but a bunch of sex scenes randomly popping up in there with little context would just cheapen the story and that is the same regardless of the media type. Eroge style LOTR, Eowyn reverse rap$s Aragorn any one? I do remember googling some images for Mitsuru from Persona 3 back in the day to satisfy my own curiosity, and the fact I thought she was hot. But I wouldnt have wanted sex scenes with her in the game.

I dont think the term VN (as is the subject of the thread) automatically makes a game an eroge. Obviously if you rage about finding a h-scene in an eroge it is kinda stupid. But the discussion is more about if these games need h-scenes or not (and what the aforementioned h-scenes can add to a game, if anything.).

Honestly, this goes against what I thought, I thought sex was less taboo in Japan than where say, I am (UK, not that it is particularly taboo here). But I have never been to Japan so I do not know, I can only base that on how oversexualised a lot of the media they produce is lol. Personally I almost always end up skipping 90% of any hscene, because it eventually just becomes some variation of the "assumed" common sex talk of "do you like that", "yea thats good", "they are so soft", "girls are so soft" (all of which pisses me off) etc etc. I dont really see the need for them most of the time, and for all I know I am missing some interesting lines of dialogue because I skipped. Personally I would like to see some more moving scenes with art like emotional hugs and kisses, and maybe getting closer to sex without necessarily being sex (as long as the story justifies it, otherwise scenes like this just look stupid). I do not think I have yet seen a h-scene that entertained me so much that I wanted to watch it all. I think an h-scene can add something to a story Take Future Diary (anime) for example, whatever you think of the anime and the relationship Whereas for example in Tsujidou-san no Jun'ai road (not that I disliked the VN): Minor Spoiler. There are some places I would quite like to see a h-scene, for example in Clannad I would have liked to see a gentle, intimate and romantic scene between Nagisa and Tomoya, possibly leading to sex. If it was done well, it could add something for sure, if nothing else, increased emotional impact for erm, certain events later on. if they got it wrong (which key often do with h-scenes lol) it would be detrimental to the story. My conclusion therefore is that a well done h-scene can add something to any story (well, unless the story is completely hopeless), but it does not need to go on for 20 minutes of reading time, and they HAVE to make sure they get it right!. As far as I am concerned, trim them down by about 90% of their length and give them some meaningful text. Plus build them up PROPERLY do not just throw them in. Sex occurs spontaneously 90% of the time in VNs, generally with out enough chemistry built up between the couple and no proper context for the scene. Basically if: a male and female are in a relationship (even if only for 1 day lol) + on their own somewhere + one is the protagonist + one is a heroine == sex scene is a comin! That is not how it should be.

No problem. Heh whoever told you that lied, there is indeed an end where you "escape" the mansion early in the game, but, well, It doesnt go or end well. Put it that way. LOL There is a bit of MenxMen, but its all involving Makoto (and I think he has been given breasts at that point), put breasts and a vagina on the artwork for Makoto and you wouldnt know it was a dude. Still wasnt my thing tho so I did skip it. One route I didnt do was Makoto and his moms route, there is probably more in that. WARNING: MAJOR spoiler on the "best" end of Starless below. Only read if you either dont care, or dont intend to play it! RE Euphoria I skipped it for a couple of reasons: 1. I am not a fan of a protagonist being a total bastard, I prefer to be able to see myself in a protagonist and/or empathize with the protagonist in some way atleast, in the case of Starless, if I found myself in the main characters situation (not that I ever would lol) I am not sure what I would have done differently (yes there is a route when he goes a bit evil, but meh, only because he got so fucked up by the whole experience). I may be wrong about euphoria, but from what I can tell the MC is a sadistic bastard and takes pleasure in doing all kinds of shit to the girls against their will, not my cup of tea. If he is a good person but is manipulated or coerced into his actions, I guess I MIGHT give it the time of day. 2. The characters in euphoria (except Aoi) look a bit moe for my tastes, when that type of crap is happening to them I prefer a more mature looking art style for the characters If I am wrong in any way with my assumptions in point 1 maybe I will give it a go as Nemu does sound kinda interesting, but yea, point 2 would still stand.

I am not a huge lover of futa, but I dont mind the odd scene, however, when it is futa on man (as does happen with Marika and main character), count me out lol, truth be told I just sat laughing through those scenes, (aswell as the scat, I held skip button while laughing). Heh, nah the route had no romance, I mean Marika had a thing for the main character (I think it was more lust than love tho), but he was basically her plaything. It is why I thought a route with some twisted romance between Marisa and protagonist could be interesting, but there wasnt one. There is a good ero scene with Sachi and Marika at the pool table tho -.-, but you have to go through a lot of unpleasant scenes in that game -.-, not really worth it. The only thing that could be called even close to romantic is protagonist and Mitarai, and that is a bit NTR for my tastes (inevitably with the type of game it is). The game is frustrating though, a true route where you bring down Maria and maybe expose the atrocities of the household would have been good. But nope, its a h-game the bad guys must always win lol.

Starless has romance ? I thought it was just heavy on its sex business/prostitution and the corrupted dark events of the rich family. Heh yea, Maria and Marisa are pretty damn sadistic (so if just seeing sadistic women with no romance interests you u might like it), I actually thought a route with Marisa and the protagonist might be interesting, but they chose the futanari one of the sisters to make a route for... Ofc they did... No point in having romance of any sort on the mind playing Starless =/. Not sure I can really recommend it tho, I am still recovering from playing it lols.

Yo. So I have just started playing this, I think I am half way through chapter 3, there may be some minor spoilers here, but nothing major as I have only played the game for 30 mins or so. Anyway, there are a few things bugging me about it (spoilered incase, but anything I say occurs pretty early on anyway) Are these things explained in some way? or in the case of 1 and 2, is there a bit more going on that is revealed later?

Yea, Duel Savior Miya is kind of Yandere (I think more just obsessive), but you have a long way to go to reach her route, you have to play through every other route to get to hers (except the bonus route), you could cheat it ofc. Personally, due to the circumstances in the game, I do not really consider her Yandere, and I found it a bit disappointing in the end. It didnt fill that Yandere void -.-. Some more Yandere heroines would be nice lol, a VN with a Yuno Gasai equivalent would be good =/

Meaning the true route of Little Busters is equivalent to After Story in terms of, adding almost the length of the original route to the story and providing a more satisfying ending? That is ok with me I guess. True route of LB is Natsume isnt it? You are right with what you say regarding characters, but I do like what you say about interactions, actually lack of interaction between characters is quite a common feature in lots of VNs (well that and lack of actual characters lol). Good music is quite a selling point for me actually, so with what you have said in mind, I guess I will give it a shot at some point. Cheers for your time man!

That is what people seem to say, I watched Clannad , loved it, saw Angel beats recommended, watched it, found it quite "meh". Honestly I didnt get any feels from Angel Beats, I really didnt get why it got so much praise personally. Yea there were some sad moments, but nothing got me in the same way as Clannad, maybe it was the length of Angel Beats, or maybe even the kind of mood I was in when I watched it. Clannad and Angel Beats Spoilers Below: Sounds like quite a lot of time there lol. So I guess the important question is, is the game good and worth that time? Maybe it makes it hard for you to answer that as I didnt like Angel Beats but loved Clannad -.- (which a lot of people seem to think makes no sense). If it helps it was After Story that really made Clannad so good for me, on MAL I think I rated Angel Beats 6 (5.5 if I could), Clannad 8 (7.5 if I could) and Clannad AS 9.

Sorry to bump this again. Did you get the right heroine for Little Busters? I actually see the Mayadere tag for Saya, so are both Sasami and Saya viable for this recommendation? Also do you recommend the game? I do like Clannad, Kanon and Air, I did not like Angel Beats. Does LB compare to them? I thought it looked a bit more kiddy, put me off.

@-soraa If Nao and Hanako had routes I would not have got bored especially Nao, she needed one man. Even Aoi could have been interesting, it seemed to be hinted she kind of loved him as more than his guardian anwyay and until I checked I assumed she would have a route lol). I will get back into it, eventually. To be honest whilst I have read nothing like the amount of VNs most of u guys have read (tho I have watched a reasonable bit of anime and played a fair few JRPGs), I am at the point I think I know what is going to happen and cba to read it (which is probably foolish, but I cant help it), that is kinda why I stopped reading SakuSaku. I am currently playing Noble Works and preferring it tho for sure, even if the premise of it is kind of stupid.

I cannot speak for Akshay, but I didnt think it was garbage. However, I did get bored of it. I am half way or so through Yuri's route (first one I did) and I gotta say, I got bored, and havent played it for about 2 weeks. Not sure I would say she was an enemy tho, just a bit troubled =/ Yea, started playing Princess Evangile, I didnt mind it and will go back to it, but I am not the biggest lover of that moe art style. Prefer the art style of say, Tsujidou-san no Jun'ai Road or Majikoi. From what I saw Mitsuki would fit indeed!
