  1. yes, that is what we’re concerned about, so the easy solution is to not be bad i don’t know about your actual translation skills but you seem to have a good enough grasp on English that this won’t be an issue on that end (tl note: stormwolf calls it toxic rampant elitism but it’s just having any level of standards or respect for the work)
  2. Art looks nice, writing needs work as a corollary you should have quality of writing both in your story and in your description/marketing/etc
  3. the editing was done by an amaterasu alum so lol f for effort tho There are in fact objective rules to English
  4. Looks like MTL really is inexcusable
  5. Similar because they make the same argument but still different points, all of which beat yours
  6. You missed the replies before this last one lmao
  7. Well, if you insist. A foolish position to hold since, as has been stated, MTL means he is not reading the VN in any form at all. Well, if you ever shed your sloth for long enough to learn anything about learning Japanese, you would find that you do not in fact have to learn an entire language to read a VN in Japanese, disregarding the part where learning whole new languages is cool and fun and makes you smarter and is generally just a good thing. The following point on respect for the work has been addressed. More childish to try to misrepresent someone’s valid and asked-for criticisms as childish outbursts. Valid, but legal matters were never of concern here. A tangent stemming from misinterpretation. The misinterpretation and following lines were addressed. The first two paragraphs have been addressed. As for the last paragraph, it is in fact an existent opinion, and not one I would put past the OP. The entirety of the next reply has been addressed. Can’t believe it’s simple-minded to think people who defend MTL are simple-minded, and to believe they exist when they post on this forum Learning Japanese can be entertainment if you make it so (and this doesn’t mean “just enjoy it lmao”) The following paragraph has been addressed. If you insist, I’ll make sure to join threads you post in from now on. Don’t know why someone has to criticize me for me to criticize other people, but ok kid Considering there was no simplification and we were never in terms of a different topic, I’m pressing X right now, but sure And finally: Now, nothing has been ignored.
  8. Funny that you should say that when you were the first one to insult, and you conveniently ignore how I’ve countered most of your points. But for good measure, I’ll go through another one. Well, first of all, he asked the community how it would go. Second of all, the topic of MTL has been discussed heavily for a long time. In combination, he should have expected exactly this reaction. Had he not said anything, we would’ve let him be, but since he asked for input from the community, he received a response befitting his question.
  9. A fair point, except that MTL is not the only way to experience it in some fashion. No, that’d be saying that MTL’d majikoi isn’t even a VN. A better equivalent would be saying that Windows Millenium Edition isn’t Windows 7 because it is inferior. Would be more dedication and respect to learn Japanese to experience it properly and then buy a Japanese version, no? But you didn’t, you experienced a boneless approximation of it. Your thought processes are already far more than simple enough, it’s fine as is.
  10. But then, you contradict yourself, for how can you respect something if it’s not even the thing you say you’re respecting?
  11. Don’t ignore what I said, a mockery is a mockery if you consider it equivalent to the original, regardless of whether you make it or promote it
  12. How is butchering something and calling the mangled carcass the original a lack of respect lmao it’s basically the same thing seriously, idk why everyone’s so up in arms about this shit, my crayon replica of the mona lisa is pretty much the original, in fact, it’s respect that i would try to replicate it
  13. A fair point, but it is impossible to get the meaning of things with MTL, so therefore MTL is not enough
  14. They're generally bad. Ixrec doesn't really know Japanese that well, and is known to mistranslate a lot, and he and his editors have poor handles on grammar, leading to stilted and awkward translations that lose meaning and nuance from the original text. Translation quality is only subjective at high levels, where it comes down to specific design choices, but discussions on translation quality rarely reach that level. What's very subjective on this forum is translation quality standards. I do hope you realize the irony of saying this in defense of someone who's known to get a lot of stuff wrong in his translations. Just because it's commonplace doesn't make it acceptable.
  15. I’ve been going through every VN on vndb in alphabetical order and reading the first 500 lines of each I’m in the middle of the D’s right now, so I’m at about 5000 VNs at once
  16. Just read a plot summary then lmao What’re you suggesting and what’s it coming before? Reading a dictionary or a thesaurus for big words isn’t “picking up vocabulary” if you can’t use those big words right. Doubt it if you think grammar is a trifle Okay, then I’ll suggest something: actually learn Japanese lmao
  17. Yeah but still better than reading the ixwreck tl
  18. If you’re an English reader, probably KnS cause the Rewrite translation is bad so you should wait for Rewrite+
  19. You don’t even know English, how would you understand Japanese You don’t even understand the basics of language or writing, how would you understand 99.9% of what you read That would be true if gaining the ability to read a poor approximation of something was progress but lmao
  20. I mean if you just need to understand the story, you should just read a wikipedia plot summary or something. VNs are a literary medium (hence visual “novel”), so that means words and how they’re used are important. If you cannot recognize the importance of prose and replicating its effect, then you may as well read plot summaries, because that’s what you get if you strip out the words from a VN.
  21. It's easy to say that when criticism is inherently a negative message at someone, seeing as criticism involves highlighting flaws. Putting aside that it's not clear what you actually meant here, someone who puts out work should be ready for issues to be pointed out, so they shouldn't be expecting only happy praise. I don't see anything wrong with calling someone out for being unable to accept criticism and improve their skills, or making it clear to others that they are such a person, or how that constitutes "acting like a shithead." "Hard to deal with" is a nice way to minimize the fault of the translator, though. "Doing one's best" constitutes improving and growing, not just blindly assuming one's work has no issues and ignoring anyone who speaks to the contrary, or saying that quality doesn't matter because they put in effort.
  22. The shit talk and borderline harassment comes after they refuse to acknowledge issues and establish themselves as the last type, so sorry, but no.
