I think the first time I caught myself doing something that was playing Persona 4. I thought it would be cool to go through the year playing the date in game in real life, but since some days just fly past and others go on for awhile I never attempted it though. Playing VNs I definitely do like to quit at the end of a day, since it's usually the perfect spot to remember whats going on, but I also like to try to match up seasons with the ones in real life. Seeing it snowing and reading about how warm my character's tea is, while it's snowing in real life and I'm wrapped in blankets, drinking my own tea just makes me feel extra cozy.

Yeah, it's kinda debatable whether or not games like are actually VNs. As far as the series, I think Book of Shadows felt most like one to me. Wandering around exploring things in these kinds of games can be a lot of fun, but when you're forced to run away from things non stop it can get tiring. Especially when it has nothing to do with the story and is just some random, endlessly respawning spirit. I kinda like how Danganronpa did exploration for a VN type game. You couldn't die or anything, but it still felt suspenseful and let me appreciate the uneasy atmosphere of the school.

I enjoyed Blood Drive, but it definitely was the weakest of the three I played (Sachiko's Birthday game was never available in English back then, so I have no idea how that stacks up). I don't really remember it that well, but gameplay wise those damn wandering ghosts still stand out in my mind. Exploring the school was a way bigger pain in the ass than it needed to be.

I'm glad I read this. I've been playing the Vita versions and wondering if it was a good idea. I don't like missing R18 scenes if it goes well with the story and builds on the relationship of the characters, but H-scenes for the sake of H-scenes can be pretty stupid. I'm hardly ever alone, so it just makes things more awkward too. Especially, if they're ridiculous ones.

Ever17 has been moving kinda slow, so I can't really blame you. Hopefully, something happens soon for me to hook me in. (I've mainly been neglecting it due to Alternative.) I don't actually know much regarding Grisaia no Meikyuu, but judging by the first game it's probably a safe bet. (I still need to finish that too, but unless another route changes my mind, I'd certainly agree on Michiru) It should be interesting to see what other people recommend. The kind of games you're looking for I'm interested in myself.

I see. Thanks . The choices haven't really done anything different so far so I hadn't really considered that. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. Sorry for going dragging things off topic. I should probably talk about this stuff in the "currently reading" thread. When it comes to your recommendations I feel like there's something I'm forgetting. If I think of it I'll let you know though. (I haven't finished it yet, but Ever17 is modern day, sort of sci-fi / technology based, and full of mystery if you think you might want to look into it. It's by the same writer as the Zero Escape series if you liked that.)

That's what I was thinking too, but I'm playing on PS Vita and there's a lot of hidden trophies left. It normally unlocks one at the end of every chapter and even if I keep a spare for beating the game that would mean there was 15 chapters . That seems overly long, but they haven't been giving them for anything else like other games do.

That was all a total surprise to me. I like how it affected him character development wise, but now I'm pretty scared going forward. After that there was something that Kouzuki said that made me extra weary. I don't remember the exact words, but something like "we're going to be entering hell together" or "death will be nice after what we're gonna go through from here on out" or something?... Regardless, after the mostly easygoing stuff from Extra and Unlimited this is quite the ride. Do you actually know how many chapters they have in store for us? I tried a quick internet search but nothing came up and I'm too afraid of spoilers to dig deeper.

I'm actually playing through it myself for the first time too! I'm in chapter 8. This game is way longer than I was expecting! I really didn't expect things to get this gritty either. These last couple chapters really got to me. Last night I decided to take a break and play something else before bed, because the prior night I was having weird depressing dreams from playing it nonstop haha.

You might wanna try it with the PS3 graphics and voice patch. It should make a huge difference in your case. https://github.com/07th-mod/guide/wiki/Higurashi-Part-1---Voice-and-Graphics-Patch#how-to-install-the-patch-manually-for-windows-linux-and-mac (Sorry for the double post)

Kara no Shojo is what I was thinking too. Muv Luv Alternative is really where things might get interesting for you too. I wouldn't skip that if you bothered playing through Extra and Unlimited. I couldn't get into The Silver Case unfortunately. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention since I beat it over a long period of time, but I barely even understood wtf was going on. What stood out the most was a lot of wandering around trying to figure out where to go and a lot of cussing.

Summer always seems so great in VNs and anime, but then I actually go outside and the heat just makes me miserable.

Sony is just kinda doubling down on the violence too. What I've seen of what they're pushing as their biggest game is easily one of the most graphically violent ever made.

Historically, it's true that conservative media and politicians have complained about sexual content and violence, but I haven't really noticed the sexual content complaints from them, since Mass Effect. On the other hand there's tons of people involved in the video game industry talking about how sexist Japan is on an ongoing basis. I find it hard to believe that Sony is going to change their policies for a couple church mom's or conservatives that don't play video games anyway, but when they're getting bad press within the industry itself, maybe. As a PlayStation Vita owner I've been putting up with having the games I like being labeled sexist or creepy and getting bad press for years now. I could give you guys some examples if you like.

This really does look promising. I hope to hear and see more. -
Conservative groups only really seem worried about violence in video games. Which Sony has no problems with. It's more that the video game industry is flooded with SJWs who consider everything sexist, "problematic", "toxic" or some other buzzword. The gaming news outlets (which, coincidentally, are predominantly located in the state where Sony just moved) has been pushing all this stuff for awhile now. Most aren't even bothering to let people know that Sony is doing this, because many of them actually applaud it.

Supipara is never going to get finished is it? I've been waiting to play it, but I don't like dealing with not getting an ending. I wish Minori would have just went the Kickstarter route. I have no idea how the game is, but the opening looks so so good.

Ooh yeah! or how about Welcome to the NHK?

I've bought tons of PS4 and vita games in the last couple years, but after this all started, I'm done. This pisses me off so bad. When there's so many games stranded on their platforms nothing good can come of this. Maybe I'll buy new Utawarerumono games or something used, but I'll be doing my best to see Sony gets nothing from me.

I'd love a Steam-type platform for VNs if it was done right, but can Sol Press really deliver something like that? Now that Steam is allowing 18+ content wouldn't the most likely one be Steam itself? I don't know. It just seems like a lot of work, money, and commitment to attempt something like that.
-
I'm interested to know what led you to believe this in the first place. You came up with it on your own due to your love of VNs or did someone else advertise them this way?

That's a relief at least. I like that he's confident and competent and everything, but I'd like him more if he was just always more of a gentleman. Those protagonists seem kind of rare to me so far, so it would be a nice change of pace.
-
Michiru's route was the only one I've finished so far, so I'm sure I'll get to know him better. It seems like certain characters he's a lot worse to. I really don't like the way he treats Amane. Hopefully in her route that changes.

Kara no Shoujo is now available on Steam!
ciel_yuri replied to Dreamysyu's topic in Visual Novel Talk
That seems weird that they wouldn't just label the drm-free ones drm-free. It's all news to me though so thanks. As far as I know it needs to check a minimum of like once a week or something. Maybe someone else knows the specifics.
