How can I get Mirai Nostalgia translated?
Clephas replied to Vampire Alexander's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
It has been established that paying for a fantranslation is illegal (ie. Sanity's End was sued for taking money to translate VNs without a license). While posting a translation request might get some kind of result, fantranslators in general like to pick and choose what they translate. -

VN of the Month December 2017 - Bakumatsu Jinchuu Houkoku Resshiden Miburo
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Kin'iro Loveriche is a top-quality game, as anyone who has played it can attest to. Its only real slip-ups were having Akane as a heroine instead of a side-character and no Ayaka path (remedied in the fandisc, but still). Miburo is an excellent game by Inre, based in the Bakumatsu era from the point of view of the Shinsengumi. I would say it is more true to history than Last Cavalier (if you ignored the steampunk), but it is also less detailed about the post-Kyoto elements. My biggest complaint about this game is that it uses ladder-style story structure, which I always complain about, lol. -
*The dwarf is suffering from the debuff 'Madness' plus permanent status change, 'Blood of Clephas', it has failed its Will roll, it is hungry, it tries to devour you out of love*
-
*The dwarf is absorbed for a moment, then returns, his eyes orange and glowing, his teeth turned to steel and sharpened to points, a mad grin on his face that somehow combines absolute love and feral hunger together*
-
*the eye merely blinks, your sword dissolving into its component atoms before being absorbed into the endless abyssal cosmos beyond the gate*
-
*a pool of black liquid spreads across the earth around you, thickening, rippling, orange-eyed faces with maniacal smiles occasionally appearing from within, filling the air around you with a chorus of madness... before gathering to create a gate to somewhere... elsewhere, revealing a massive orange eye the size of a star* Welcome to Fuwanovel.

It is considered bad form to fantranslate something that is already slated to be localized. That isn't even mentioning the likely legal actions, however limited, that would be taken by the companies that licensed the games.

VN of the Month October 2017 - Yami to Hikari no Sanctuary
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Yami to Hikari no Sanctuary is part mystery, part fantasy, and part romance. The protagonist is a seemingly normal young man (albeit a country boy) who goes along with his childhood friend to an island school for those who have a talent, an influential family, or who otherwise have the potential to have an effect on the world outside themselves. Despite his apparent normalcy, the protagonist is actually the most abnormal person in the game, as he was trained from birth (literally) for the purpose of killing the inhuman with his bare hands. As the writer describes it, to him, the act of taking a life is just normal, nothing to get emotional or excited about. Baldr Bringer is an abomination. Junjou Karen Freaks is a nice non-human heroine charage of moderate quality. Venus Blood Brave is something of a fusion, as it utilizes the 'monster birth' mechanic, but instead of providing units, it provides power to the fighting units (the heroines). The game is a linear dungeon-crawler with a solid cast of characters, and it is also the prequel to Hypno (albeit by so much time that it is meaningless to contemplate). Kanojo wa Tenshi de Imouto de is a borderline nakige/utsuge that is based in the same setting as Satsukoi. The protagonist is a young man who was contemplating suicide until he was given the chance to train to become an angel. He lives with the current Archangel, who is posing as his little sister. While it is a frequently amusing game, it is a story that is primarily about feels and catharsis. -
Yeah, not happening, especially since Sen no Hatou isn't exactly an easy game to translate in the first place. It isn't bad as something by Masada or Kurashiki, but it is definitely not average difficulty. This is the kind of game where you can spend a half an hour worrying over the translation of a single idiom or phrase, so there is no possibility whatsoever that this got done that fast without relying on MTL or faking it most of the way.

VN of the Month August 2017 - Blade x Bullet - Kinrin no Soleil
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Blade X Bullet is one of the best games in the Soleil series by Skyfish, though it is significantly more straightforward in its darkness (ALL the main players are either Lawful Evil or Chaotic Evil by nature) than the rest of the series. The main character of the game is the latest incarnation of Loki, who was condemned after Ragnarok to forever wander as a mortal warrior, appearing only in the worst of worst of situations and losing anything he values in the process. It is based in a world where the old gods, made into the cogs and gears that ran the world behind the scenes, become basically undead monsters wreaking havoc across the world. Typical of most Soleil games, people then make artificial Valkyries to fight them... but are too late to prevent the annihilation of civilization. Heimdall (supposedly THAT Heimdall) then invites the surviving Valkyries and their masters to his castle, to decide the future of the world. -
VN of the Month September 2017 - Oni ga Kuru. ~Ane ga Hinshi de Pinchi Desu~
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Yuganda Uso is a seriously weird game. While it is heavy on the sex, it also has a strong plot element, so I hesitate to call it a nukige. The big thing about this game is how twisted the characters - in particular the protagonist - are. Haze Man... think weird Power Rangers type superhero protagonist without the overdone villains to make him look cool, lol. It's a decently fun game, but it isn't really worth writing home about. Omokage Railback is a decent game that could have been great if they hadn't made the protagonist into a non-entity. Sakura Hitohira Koi Moyou is yet another trashy charage that isn't really worth paying any attention to. Oni ga Kuru is the spiritual successor to the 13cm Oni Uta, though it only shares an artist. It has the same concepts, the same type of characters, and a nearly identical atmosphere. If you like semi-tragic incest stories with clingy sisters who don't understand common sense and oni heroines who equally don't understand it, then you'll like this game. -
Amayui Castle Meister is one of the middle-of-the-road quality Eushully games. It isn't trash like Sankai Ou but it isn't on the higher end where Madou Koukaku or Fuukan no Grasesta sits. It is one of the Meister games, so it does have some alchemy elements and shares the same battle system as Kamidori. Ojousama no Hanbun wa Ren'ai de Dekiteimasu is a game I recently gave a review on why it is underrated and why it picks its audience, so I'll refrain from repeating myself. Hanidebi is another kusoge by Eufonie... I don't understand why they bothered after they botched Koiken. Newton was the first game by Laplacian that was actually worth playing. That is not to say it is an 'awesome' game, but it is of decent quality, though even I think that is faint praise, lol.

VN of the Month July 2017 - Hikari no Umi no Apeiria
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Niizuma Koyomi is one of a very, very few nukige I consider worthy of watching for the quality of the romance/story. While there is a lot of sex in the game, it also is a really high quality romance SOL game with solid heroines. Hikari no Umi no Apeiria is a seriously weird game... it doesn't fit into any greater genre except maybe the mystery/mindfuck sub-genre. It is also full of absurdities. However, if you can enjoy its inherent absurdities, this is a fun VN to read. Fuyu Uso is the conclusion of the Uso series, focusing on the most mysterious and inscrutable of the four heroines. Like all the entries in the four game series, it is a high-quality kinetic novel with a mix of fantasy, plotge, and charage elements. Hatsujou Sprinkle is a medium-quality charage by Whirlpool that is only interesting if you have finished everything better, lol. Mashimaro is just a standard-quality charage, nothing to write home about. Sakura no Mori Dreamers 2 is a great fandisc for people who liked the original game, and it also links up a bit with Honoguraki. Shin Koihime Musou Kakumei Souten no Haou covers Karen's/Cao Cao's rewritten path. Very little of this game was left untouched by the hands of the writers, so it is a huge enhancement of the original path from Shin Koihime Musou. -
VN of the Month April 2017 - Tsuihou Senkyo
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Nine's first entry is good, but - like I've said in the past - this game should have been released with all parts from the beginning. Hatsukoi Syndrome is a melancholic romance based in the same universe and location as Campus's Uso series. It is a pretty good quality kinetic novel. -
VN of the Month March 2017 - Haruru Minamo ni!
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Haruru Minamo ni is a high quality charage with an actual central story. Like all Clochette games, the fetishes tend to lean toward boobs, but I'm sure you are all fine with that, lol. Hataraku Otaku is the second game in Akabei's Hataraku series. Like the first Hataraku Otona, it is a somewhat sex-heavy romance story between adults. Kamiyaba is one of the Yabai series by Hulotte. For some reason, my rating for this one got deleted from vndb, but like all the games in this series, it is moderately amusing harem antics. Otomelo is yet another failure by Ensemble to regain their extremely brief golden days that fails miserably. At best the game can be described as adequate. Suisei Ginka no Istoria is a game I dropped because I didn't like the way they went for shock value so often so early in the game. However, it is immensely popular with its fans, so if you like this kind of thing, you should probably take a look. -
VN of the Month February 2017 - Suisei Ginka
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
Nekonin is pure nukige. Shugaten is a pure kusoge. Suisei Ginka was the last Akatsuki Works game to come out. I am sad. Give me more Akatsuki Works. -
Kin'iro Loveriche -Golden Time- [Edited]
Clephas commented on Clephas's blog entry in Clephas' VN home
I know this is from a while ago, but yeah, Sylvie, Elle's, and Ayaka's VAs are all somewhat off. Ria, Reina and Akane are about the same, but playing them one after the other, it is pretty obvious that the voice director screwed up. -
I love 'psychologically challenged' characters, whether they are heroines, protagonists, or antagonists. That said, I don't mean those cookie-cutter 'villains' and 'serial killer' types when I say this. I mean characters who are twisted up inside and as a result have a completely different outlook on life or appear inconsistent on the surface as a result. Villain and serial killer types, who just cause harm because they want to, just aren't that interesting. Here is a shortlist of good VNs that also have a few psychotic characters that are interesting to me. Ojou-sama wa Gokigen Naname (Yuuzenji Tsurumi)- Antagonist of the story, she is passionately and with utter seriousness in love with money. She will honestly and totally love anyone who gives her money, but that love disappears the moment that they have nothing left to give her. Kikan Bakumatsu Ibun Last Cavalier (Okada Iori)- Iori is the partner heroine of Ryouma. She is the very picture of someone twisted by her job, as she is an assassin for the anti-Shogunate forces who is more than a bit yandere. Her twisted need to be controlled and have sex with the one who tells her to kill is a primary personality trait for her. Devils Devel Concept (all heroines and Sora)- Sora is a young man with a domineering and tyrannical personality and an obsession with transactional interactions with others in the form of 'contracts' (not to mention a psyche that reacts to violence, pain, and inflicting pain with joy). All the heroines are a bit broken in various ways, though each has a different broken point. There are also a lot of other broken characters, lol. Draculius (Jun and Belche)- Jun is normally an easygoing and kind-hearted young man, but he is insanely protective of 'family', to the point of extreme ruthless cruelty if he feels it necessary. Belche is an ancient Irish vampire who bases her entire worldview on her service to a master and just how much she can give to him, while also being a coldly ruthless monster who would willingly kill entire towns if her master asked it of her. Grisaia trilogy (seriously, does anyone need me to point out all the broken characters here?) Comyu (Kagome)- ... anyone who has played this game knows Kagome is crazy, so I don't know any reason why I should continue. Silverio Vendetta (Zephyr and Valzeride)- Zephyr is a cowardly deserter who is normally happy to drink himself into a stupor and engage the services of easy women, but when cornered he becomes a sadistically brutal monster who will happily torment and slaughter those who oppose him using any tool that comes to hand. Valzeride is on the surface the ultimate, perfect patriotic hero. However, his hard-working nature goes beyond the norm, as he is quite literally incapable of not pushing his own limits and enduring the most hellish of experiences solely to be the 'Enemy of Evil' as he terms it. He fundamentally loves destroying evil as the root part of his nature, and he naturally seeks to turn the ruined lives he leaves in his wake into the base for his nation's prosperity. Silverio Trinity (Gilbert and Dainsleif)- Gilbert is a hero-obsessed strategist who always has a scenario ready to get the best result out of any situation. Dainsleif is also obsessed with Valzeride and those like him, desiring nothing more than to be the one to oppose and destroy heroes as a self-styled evil dragon. Dies Irae (Reinhard Heydrich and friends)- That there is something wrong with the psychology of every single person on Reinhardt Heydrich's side, as well as most of Ren's side is a self-evident reality. Tokyo Babel (Setsuna) - Seriously, talk about overweening arrogance hidden in a huge lump of self-pity and self-hatred, lol. Yami to Hikari no Sanctuary (Souji)- With Souji it is mostly a result of his upbringing, but he seems so normal... even as he kills. Yurikago yori Tenshi Made (everyone)- No normies in this game, nothing but psychos. Izuna Zanshinken (lots of people)- Lots of crazies and oddballs in this game. Vermillion Bind of Blood- Toshirou, Ariya and Tri-finger. Figure the rest out yourself, lol. Hapymaher (Maia)- Say what you want about Maia, but she is probably one of the most internally conflicted characters I've seen. The reasons make perfect sense, if you know what to look for. Tohru is a bit crazy too (anyone who has to fight that much with his own desire to dream forever is a bit brain-screwed). Butterfly Seeker- Another game with a lot of messed up people. Psychologic Love Comedy- Craziness everywhere All the Smee Seasons games (Harumade, Natsukumo, etc)- craziness is this series' selling point.

Electro-arms (more like a super-AR game that can be entered and exited at will, more or less) Hikari no Umi no Apeiria Edit: Honestly, it isn't a setup that happens that often in VNs.

Seihou no Prismgear 星逢のプリズムギア [Elysion]
Clephas commented on kivandopulus's blog entry in Vndbreview
I rated this one pretty low, because it just didn't turn out well.
