  1. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Dovac was talking about the WAS Kickstarter, which only had a $10,000 base goal. Witch Boy didn't reach its goal and we still haven't heard a word about it since. If anything, I'd expect them to relaunch the Kickstarter at a later date with less competition and a lower goal/more rewards.
  2. I'd recommend sending an email to [email protected] like they suggest on the Steam forums so they can fix it.
  3. The term "unrated" is commonly used to denote a film that is unsuitable for general audiences, and I think that term tends to fit 18+ visual novels.
  4. I mean, if you're not curious enough to access a clearly-labeled FAQ with one click, you were never attempting to be an informed consumer to begin with.
  5. Just for clarification, the page on Denpasoft does inform the consumer of mosaics.
  6. Number of Sekai Project releases that use a fan translation: 3 (Grisaia no Kajitsu, G-senjou no Maou, Planetarian) Number of planned Sekai Project releases that use a fan translation: 0 Hey, your 80% looks more like 5%.
  7. I've seen a good amount of people voice their satisfaction with the no-voice option, so it seems like a pretty good idea on their part.
  8. Many Japanese VN companies started doing that after the RapeLay incident to avoid any unwanted attention.
  9. They've been spelling it as Sacrament Sheep the whole time. The only time they didn't was when they used the Sacramento_Sheep hashtag that the Japanese developers used.
  10. Are we sure that Fruitbat Factory is publishing it and not just localizing it? Look at this quote from the tlwiki post: One of the reasons VisualArt's/Key would move on from Sekai Project is because publishing your own work pays off more than having someone do it for you and take part of the check. Also, with Harmonia's release on Steam, VisualArt's/Key doesn't really need someone to publish their stuff anymore. And has Fruitbat Factory mentioned their involvement with Tomoyo After? I don't see any indication that they're working on that yet, which means it could be self-published by VisualArt's/Key, too. This might sound weird, but I kinda hope they actually do use Kickstarter. I really want physical goods.
  11. Clannad and Grisaia had a similar overlap and they both fared fine. Going by the amount Narcissu has raised so far, there's no reason to believe that this time won't be any different.
  12. They have some Denpasoft only titles coming up so it's far from impossible.
  13. According to dovac on the SP forum, they're working on a site redesign for both their SP page and Denpasoft. He also said that since more titles are coming out on Denpasoft now more staff will be moved toward it. I think people underestimate just how young Sekai Project is as a company. They're still looking for partners so they can set up their own store, for example. (Probably why they're more willing to put stuff on Steam.)
  14. I can personally attest to the "hero complex". When I was younger I was convinced I was an alien living amongst people until the start of an eventual all-out war. I had all kinds of fantasies where I was this unstoppable force and basically saved the planet with my powers alone. I always felt proud because I knew I was better than everyone else around me but no one else was aware. I'm not really sure why I went through this phase myself, maybe it was because of a lack of attention or it was because I wanted to feel special. I guess you could say that I had an actual case of chuunibyou. Even though I am much older now and I don't believe in silly illusions anymore I still desire what having a hero complex gives you. In a way, playing these types of VN allows me to experience someone else living a fantasy, which would be impossible for me. It's kind of interesting how much I haven't really changed. I didn't get to say this yesterday but thanks for this thread. These discussions have been very interesting to mull over.
  15. Agreed, I've learned to accept that my interests don't always align with what the majority of my fellow Americans prefer when it comes to visual mediums such as film. This is why anime has its appeal for me because the inherent nature of anime is that it panders to a niche, and they support it very well. Without the support of fans anime wouldn't exist and that type of support doesn't really exist in America. Hopefully this market grows in the future because I'd love to support it. Unfortunately I have to do the searching by myself because I don't always share the same interests as those around me.
  16. Thanks, I'm sure we do have great works that succeed at creating this chuuni-style that you have proposed. Unfortunately I am ignorant (partly my fault for never searching hard enough) of their existence. I enjoy the visual medium (maybe more than books) and anime has done a great job pandering to my interests, but I have never liked Western movies a whole lot. What you describe makes sense, they are definitely missing something and most audiences aren't looking for what I want so it's understandable. I should take it upon myself to broaden my own horizons because even though these themes are prominent in anime they very likely exist in some form here as well.
  17. If anyone knows where I can find similar material in the West I'd like to hear it, whether it be books/movies/etc. Saying that anime-related media is better than anything over here might sound foolish but maybe it's just because I have such a difficult time finding stories with similar themes in the West. I wish this genre was more common (even though I only just now understand its existence). I know that it probably only targets a specific kind of fetish but I have been fascinated with it since I discovered Japanese media.
  18. Well that's why I'd agreed that they aren't shallow, otherwise I wouldn't have liked them in the first place. After all, some of my favorite games are listed in that list you put together. I don't know why I never realized it before but I finally notice the connection that all those games share and why I enjoy them so much. I get why I like Japanese media so much now, lol.
  19. This explains a lot because I absolutely love these type of games/stories and I'm pretty sure I had a case of chuunibyou when I was younger, as well. I think it's the limitless and over-the-top nature that I find so appealing. And even if it's a little ridiculous and too good to be true I love how the story revolves around the protaganist and through sheer willpower they always end up saving the day somehow. Maybe it's kind of shallow (although I'd disagree) but when compared to other stories it's so less... boring. The whole "awakening to my sleeping powers" might sound kind of dumb but when you're in the moment and experiencing the protaganist's journey it can be quite an adrenaline rush. Anyway, thanks for that list. All the VNs I've played on that list I have enjoyed greatly. I'll make sure to check out the rest.
