Where are you at right now? I've finished this pretty recently so I'd love to talk about it. I only know of a few other people playing otome (not that I play many myself).
-
I'm actually not sure where I stand. I don't typically actually try things in the "trash" category, so I don't know if I'm one of those that eats this sort of thing up or not. I just know that I like the art-style and that you have stricter standards (in some respects) than I do.
-
Good job. You've convinced me to try Highschool Romance.
-
Right. I did get that impression from a few loose screenshots. I figure biting the bullet on this one is worth it. Would you recommend I watch the anime and then proceed to the manga (eventually) (if necessary), or should I just read the manga? I started that. Stopped at what I figure was the halfway mark, having finished a route. I'm sure Sable's Grimoire will be worth reading. Or is? Last I checked it wasn't complete, but is it now? I was somewhat disappointed by the subtitles of Bunnygirl Senpai when I first tried watching it. I'll want to try again using a different translation (if such a thing exists) and see if my issues are with the translation or the psudophilosophy balderdash. Acient Magus' Bride was unfortunate to me. Many praised it as it aired, but I couldn't care much for the scenery, environments, or music, so I felt like I wasn't quite experiencing it right. I hope that'll be different when I try again. Demonbane may fit my requirements, except the other stuff that would be the reason one would normally play it may well be the reason I'm not interested in it. It looks to me like an action title, and I generally skip action altogether. But I did like Sorcery Jokers! I really ought to play Karakara, for this reason or another. I've been putting it off because I thought it was short and not worthwhile for that reason, but since there's two and I've found I'm really slow at reading VNs these days, it might be worth it. I'll hold off on I Walk Among Zombies until there's more of it. Right now it just looks like a zombie title or a nukige, neither of which I like.

I am looking for VNs, Anime, and/or Manga with a protagonist that isn't lustful. That is, doesn't become embarrassed just by seeing bare legs or things of the sort, and isn't a pervert inside. Kazami Yuuji somehow fits the idea, strangely. Ideally, subverts the typical "walk-in-on-someone-changing" by not making a scene of it, for instance. Generally speaking, this sort of character overlaps with the "super dense" characters. The problem is that those do become 'lustful'/easily flustered when they come to realise things. Not exactly what I'm looking for. Another way to describe it is characters with no sex drive. Two things: It should be in english, and it should have romance.
-
I love it. My experience with it is that through dozens of endings it explores the setting thoroughly.
-
I also finished Heart of the Woods. My immediate thoughts appear to have been " Much real, much magic, much cute, much worth. " To elaborate a bit, I thought the setting began very real, and quite modern. A fair bit into it there was something of a shift, and then it became a fantastic tale. The romance was absolutely stellar on all counts. Things I liked were characters really turning into something different from their initial impressions. Shout-out for Morgan, she is awesome, and she really grew. Still, Tara is best girl. Also, #ThirstyGhost.

Got it. If you just want explicit sex then definitely look elsewhere. If you mean 18+ in regards to the visual novel's themes, though, don't discount Symphonic Rain yet! Or just save it for another time.
-
Symphonic Rain. (As a side note, the fan translation is likely a better version overall than the one that was localised, as both the translation and the art in the new one appear worse.)
-
Disproportionally expensive and morally questionable to Western standards.

Under One Wing (Hitotsuba) Steam store opened
Mr Poltroon replied to littleshogun's topic in Visual Novel Talk
This VN has a single (by the time you get there, obvious) choice at the end which decides which route you enter. All others are almost irrelevant. -
Visual Novels are, as far as I know, the absolute best source of Slice-Of-Life Romance stories with tangible romantic progression. Romance stories via other mediums tend to focus on drama or offer absolutely nothing (or very little) of people who already got together and are dating or married. It's also gotten to the point where I've become very fond of anime art. (But please, if anybody knows stuff that proves my first statement wrong, do point me in the right direction.)

Nice! Thank you for backing it! -
Little Busters!, yeah. Clannad isolates its characters too much from one another most of the time. If it weren't for that, I'd say Clannad.

Happy Birthday, @ittaku.

That's bound to happen. The main reason I like Grisaia is for the comedy, which not everyone likes. Whenever I think back to it I recall that the routes really weren't much fun most of the time. I rather feel like skipping a fair bit of them. But I'm all over the common route.
-
I chose 'All routes should be equally long' under the assumption that they'd pad out shorter ones, not shorten longer ones. If they're about to cut stuff, then they might as well ignore consistency altogether.

Hey there! You may have better luck contacting the official localisers about this on their Support page. It would help them help others, too.

Happy Birthday, @Clephas.

Doki Doki Literature Club Purist Mod (VN fan modification review)
Mr Poltroon commented on Plk_Lesiak's blog entry in EVN Chronicles
Hm. I'm actually glad to hear this. I really might try it, then. That said, I have Steam Prison to get through. This forum's lacking in posts about japanese otome games lately. -
Doki Doki Literature Club Purist Mod (VN fan modification review)
Mr Poltroon commented on Plk_Lesiak's blog entry in EVN Chronicles
Well, this is something I've always wanted. But now that I know it exists, I'm too afraid to go ahead with it, given the tone of the original by the end. I wonder why I have such a bias against fanworks when I make fanworks myself. -
Heart of the Woods Review
Mr Poltroon commented on solidbatman's blog entry in solidbatman's Gaming Blog
Short VN, how scary. But it did seem to be a surprisingly high fidelity VN. I have mild interest, but I also have a general aversion to 'serious things happen', so I'm not jumping on this right away. -
An interesting point of view. Well, no need to worry. You'll never face that problem again with the Majikoi series. The rest of it is kind of bonkers in how it's structured.
