Since the mod make the topic trail off I put it back on the rail To be honest I was lost pretty early in this thread. Mainly because I don't know about english market nor fapanese market. But, since the topic is "around the world", I'll talk about french market ^^. The thing is, right now, the vn community in France is growing, and so the number of tl project is increasing. The french are really interested in Japan, though it's mainly because of the manga, there is really a guenuinely interest for Japan as a whole. And even if it's a niche market people will run into VN if they go to Akiba. French people may be less biased toward 18+ content, because of the manga market deeply implanted in France (so there is a certain number of H-manga here in plain sight) I often talk about VN around me, even with non-otaku friend, but I never get the "ewww" reaction. I even made few of them trying without asking them to do so. Well maybe it's me being donkan, or having a special trait or, and it's likely that, they're not bothered by the subject itself. The point is it's possible to get a "real" VN market in France without relying on Steam. Actually, right now, I'm mounting a project which could change the VN market in France. But the main problem is that it's over-shadowed by english. Since most people under 30 here know english, why bother to tl in french? And of course the localization thing ^^" In conclusion I think that if we do "our job" right, France can have a good VN market. (oddly enough I feel like what I just wrote make no sense..... ) And I join Rose, OELVN will become something important in the futur.

Well it's unlikely mainly because there is almost no "full french" team ; meaning we (I'm indeed conserned) blend into an english project. Well mentally-wise I'm not so sure. Even if France is the first country for localized manga, the VN fanbase will not grow up easily due to the difference in media. Morever since we got a lot of manga in french a lot of people don't feel the need to dig in deeper and never discover VN. It also seem there is less and less people who like to read "book" so it's hard to make them like VN. And ofc there is a lot who read VN in english and like people know french are selfish And of course there is the eye of society. Manga and anime are okay but if you're too deep in it people will outcast you, and because of that some people "fear" VN. Yup we're parano xD Lukily the tled one aren't nukige (mostly) so it doesn't have the "porn game" image set in stone. Sadly it seems some tl are not good (ask other french member for this since I didn't find them bad but I'm not a reference in french and I mix language in my head so it's possible I didn't see the flaw ^^") It also seem french people are more and more interested in Japan but even in Japan VN aren't that known x) I started uni last week (of japanese obviously) and I have yet to meet someone who knows what a VN is The trend is to get the licence from the creator too so it doesn't have a lot of project. (speaking for Kawasoft and Kinkan) In the end depending of the action of french VN fanbase it may evolve a little over years but it's likely that if there is a lot of VN localized it'll be an "official" localization. Then again I don't think it'll grow as much as the english fanbase simply because we don't have a french Aaeru or Tay I want to point out that is only my opignon about how it could develop and I don't say I hold the truth so it can be all wrong ^^ I like how I always called myself a "yuri ghost" yet people upgrade me to overlord and even god (from the female friend who made me discover anime, more S than me, learn me to choke people when they spoil you and love yaoi and torture instrument ) ...................... Because of the pic I got from Sensei my friend also call me a lolicon As weird as it may seem people don't judge me when I say I like VN ^^ Maybe because they don't care about me or I defend the VN enough or (and likely) "well he IS weird but funny so screw it" xD Well it's mostly KawaSoft (WEE, KS, Sugar Delight, Narcissu, True Ressemblance, an obscur otome game for all I remember) (they got the right to TL so it's an "official" TL, like Higurashi, which was done by 1 guy who work for the TL of Pokemon's game xD) There is also Sonohana 1, Saya no Uta and Dahlia (a lot of other but short and unsinificent) Partial : Yosuga no Sora (4 routes) TL project for several Type-Moon and Key VN (but slow/dead I think) So we got a fair bit but it's likely if a "boom" of fanTL appear we will get rekt by "official" TL I plan to bring a lot of VN in french (mainly yuri obviouly ) So depending if the french fanbase grow the tl may be more present here ^^ We got a site mainly for VN (esprit-vn.fr) buuuuuuuut it's pretty dead Not a lot a original project in french, but it seem quite a bit of french are working on a project but in english. Mainly because we're aware the project will have better impact in english than in french PS : Dahlia was tled by a group called Kinkan (search their site it has a eng ver ^^) This group is focused on yuri work (they want to do in every media not only VN) They tl when they got the "okay" from the creator and TL in french and english (they use the french tl to tl in english ) personal though : Seeing LN begin to be localized makes me hope/fear that in a few decade VN also got localized and kill the fan work edit : just re-read the post I scorched english really badly and I'm sorry for that but too sleepy to correct it
