I'm actually rooting for Baldr Sky to win despite what I said earlier (which was in a joking manner); I feel like its the most overall great game that everyone could enjoy and I still hold a fair amount of favoritism towards it like with the rest. The outcome of it winning is certainly more feasible than that of Akagoei winning that's for sure lol. I'd be just as delighted if any one of the other titles I mentioned in my earlier post won, but as I have a personal inclination to praise those works I also have a sort of personal inclination to the thought that Baldr Sky deserves to win this tournament.

Nothing can happen that will make me quit partaking in these fun and silly discussions so as long as I get the opportunity to drop the names of my favorite reads and not-reads and identify with them. Sigh, but that is the sort of life I want to live. Interesting article, Down.

You're right about that. It's awful that some people (including me) who rate these "ends before the means" works highly decide it's alright to repeat the same lazy expression (I know that I have many times merely told people that "Subahibi is great") to other people or communities and end up overhyping something actually transparent to all of those people with all their differing views/inclinations/preferences/etc. This goes the same for every sort of work in any medium. The "disconnect" here results from the people who do this not actually knowing what these highly rated works are about/entail -- after all they're so highly rated so they should feel like that's a sort of guarantee for something quality by their standards and values.

I won't try to defend all of the aforementioned "generic school setting with a wacky scenario" works I personally adore like Cross+Channel, Subarashiki Hibi, and Sakura no Uta for being great. After all, in none of those works does the author even care about a scenario or a plot and I can't call them great (I and other people just like what they stand for and express that by rating it highly since it's simple to do so) as a result. Instead, those works involve the author being self-aware and communicating that to his environment yada yada; the themes the ideas etc. and the ways in which they are explored are crucial steps to putting forth whatever message the author wants to put forth in whatever form. It's prioritizing the end over the means, and that does not make the work greater than another or whatever.

I look forward to the inevitable bright future where all of these works have been fully translated and officially released into English. I personally want for either Akagoei, Dies Irae, Sakuuta (of course, Sca-ji is my favorite eroge writer FOR PERSONAL REASONS BTW), or a retranslation of Cross+Channel (because it really needs one) to win this, so I voted primarily for those with my utmost spirit. But seriously Akagoei is the greatest masterpiece of our time, I wholeheartedly desire for it to win this tournament. KAITO'S FORCE could have it.

I see... Well, that is certainly great news then. ^^ To be perfectly honest I am a bit conflicted about what that implication entails on a personal level, however, looking at things objectively this is perhaps the opening to another wonderful opportunity being added on top of the pile of already existing ones brought forth from this whole deal, and so I'm also beaming with joy about it. Given how the Subahibi deal is to be this sort of trend-breaking exchange for the sake of treating the works with utmost care in preventing any kind of censorship, what or who matters and benefits here are the collective people in the western eroge communities/fanbases and the people of the Japanese companies, all as people giving and receiving these beautiful works by a creator with a passion. I can say with zeal that this event has been what I've dreamed of when I finished Subarashiki Hibi in Japanese for the first time and called it my favorite Eroge. I will most definitely buy it again in English, and I will go to all of my friends and try to convince them to earnestly buy it as well! Both Subahibi and Sakuuta are probably the types of works I could say are directly composed for human beings to relate to. I guess with that in mind I just can't not recommend either one to practically anyone I meet and befriend. And so I'd like for the both of them to get official releases for that reason.

I have only been reading early into Sakura no Uta so far and I'm already finding more enjoyment in it than I found in Subarashiki Hibi (I might even..). I'm sure you already know this, but Subahibi was the first considerably complete story (at least, thematically) Sca-ji wrote mostly by himself. As with but not because of that circumstance, he currently seems like more of an overtly earnest storyteller than a seasoned or great one. My bias towards Sca-ji lies at the principles he outlined in the latter most part of Subahibi and the philosophical idea he (attempted to) frame using the wonky narrative composition. Both traits of the story I put personal value into because they're certain reminders of something related to my situation and position (and because Subahibi was my sixth eroge xD) yada yada. But that bias doesn't make me love the game, it makes me love the creator as a person. At this point I'm all-accepting of his methods because I'd rather just converse with him, if through any possible medium. Although, I have no idea as to why other people like Subahibi... I feel this has to be said because I do want to look at things from a more "objective" standpoint and move on after making these distinctions. That way I can then say valuable things about his works and him as a person. Seeing your opinion honestly helps me with that.

Confession: Sca-ji is so good that I translated a part of Subahibi (safe, obviously) to show to my parents and siblings. Their reaction to the content was one of surprise because they had me pinned as an otaku who always played hentai games or watched cute girls doing cute things.

RIP my room's lighting, but it's finally here~! Time to ruin my sleep schedule.
