  1. In this game world, I'm pretty sure I would specialize in logic damage, with a few spirit-draining skills (e.g., trolling) for use against opponents that were resistant to logic damage. Most of my damage would be counter-based; my strategy would revolve around taunting or otherwise luring opponents into overextending themselves, then delivering sharp, pinpointed ripostes that punish mistakes while minimally exposing myself. My role in a group would be a counter tank: defending vulnerable positions against throngs of poorly armed foes.
  2. Background After 3 years in the making, JAST USA is finally ready to release Eternal-Will's popular adult visual novel RPG Yumina the Ethereal. This will be the highest profile ecchi RPG to ever be officially released in English. It's highly rated on both VNDB (8.3/10; #5 ranked in untranslated RPGs) and Erogamescape (80/100), and is particularly praised for its strong gameplay melded with moe romantic comedy and sci-fi themes. The game was developed by members of the same team that worked on the popular titles Aselia the Eternal (released) and Seinarukana (also being worked on by JAST). Recommended audience Do you like gameplay with your VNs? Are you a fan of games like Aselia the Eternal, Duel Savior, Kamidori Alchemy Meister, and Sengoku Rance? This may be the game for you! Why you should buy this To support more English releases of excellent gameplay VNs. These tend to be ignored by the fan translation community (in part because of the technical challenges), so supporting official releases is important if you want to see more. Synopsis Free trial JAST has released a playable demo which includes the entire first chapter of the game, including story segments and combat. Release date and availability Yumina the Ethereal is scheduled for release on August 30th, and is available through JAST, J-List, and RightStuf. Official site Gameplay screenshots Free trial (includes the entire first chapter of the game) VNDB User review Feel free to give me recommendations for promoting this game to mainstream RPG fans.
  3. My favorite out of all of these was probably Shiny Days. Although Little Witch Romanesque is a raising sim eroge--as these barely even exist in English, that gives it extra points in my book. If it's anything like Wizard's Climber or Tenkuu no Sinfonia, it should be fun.
  4. Also, JAST declared that School Days HQ is their most successful game ever. It also appears that JAST has decided not to use DRM with their titles, developer permitting. Yumina the Ethereal will be the next in a series of titles released with no DRM at all.
  5. JAST announcements Shiny Days from Overflow My Girlfriend is the President Fandisc from Alcot Steins;Gate from Nitro+ Sweet Home ~H na oneesan wa suki desu ka?~ and Sumeragi Bitch from CODEPINK (Both VNs from CODEPINK are nukige) Lightning Warrior Raidy 3 from Zyx Little Witch Romanesque from Littlewitch http://jastusa.com/blog/2013/07/06/new-games-announced-at-ax/ Also upcoming from JAST: Yumina the Ethereal http://jastusa.com/blog/2013/07/02/yumina-the-ethereal-golden-master/
  6. I'm amused that what caught your eye out of all those announcements was a relatively unknown Lilith title. If you're a Black Lilith fan, their two best titles appear to be Koutetsu no Majo Annerose (http://vndb.org/v3921) and Taimanin Yukikaze (http://vndb.org/v7747). If they got one of those, I'd actually maybe sort of consider buying it. All three of the Lilith titles they announced do have H-OVAs, which was probably the primary reason they were selected.
  7. Welp, this just got license grabbed by JAST USA. Hurray for intellectual tyranny!
  8. I'd assume VNTLS is more up to date, for one. It's TinFoil's baby after all, and I think he has automated tools for collecting some or all of the information.
  9. I purchased most of the English localized titles on my VN list. I "printed" the rest. I'm looking forward to Yumina the Ethereal and the Innocent Grey titles Mangagamer announced last night. I'm interested in pretty much Nitroplus's entire catalogue, but JAST USA is so damn slow that there's no telling when we'll actually see the games in English. Also, for those interested, Mangagamer is patching the voices back into Kara no Shoujo for $5. For those who haven't bought it yet, this is included in the new price. This pretty much fixes the reason most people avoided the game. Show your support if the title interests you!
  10. I've posted my stance on MoeNovel's release on Visual Novel Aer: http://visualnovelaer.fuwanovel.net/2013/07/why-i-wont-be-buying-if-my-heart-had-wings/
  11. Could you give me posting rights then? My username on Wordpress is sanahtlig.
  12. I'm going to need some assistance from site administrators. I think the free-access blog posting feature is broken. I have the post written up and ready to go except for image coding, pretty much.
  13. I have the post written, but I don't know how to post it on Visual Novel Aer.
  14. Against my better judgement, I've decided to actually write this. It'll be up in a bit.
  15. I could consider writing an opinion piece on the If My Heart Had Wings release. Frankly I prefer commenting to writing essays though. Our opinions on the matter do differ, and I can't promise I would be very "nice" to the various factions involved.
  16. Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete I heard this game is pretty good.
  17. I don't protest. I create awareness by giving people the facts and context they need to make educated decisions. I try to carefully distinguish between what is objectively true, potentially valid viewpoints, and my personal opinion. Protesters are merely interested in gathering support for a cause; they're typically not interested in accurately representing opposing viewpoints. Also, while I'm an active figure in the community-wide response to MoeNovel's release, I can hardly claim to be a "leader" of a movement. I'm just a face in the crowd with a slightly louder voice.
  18. I'm tracking this debate across multiple forums, and I maintain a synopsis that summarizes current knowledge on the extent of the content cuts (see the opening post).
  19. Give me a source and I'll consider broadcasting this new data.
  20. Ok, I get the concept now, and this does indeed imply that significant written content was cut. However, I'd also like to point out that many translations split one Japanese line into two English lines (defining a "line" as a "click" prompt in the message window), as it usually takes more "words" to convey a message in a different language from the original (this is well-established). It's therefore quite possible that the amount of cut content exceeds 12%.
  21. For those unfamiliar with VN text dumping, what is a "line"? Would we even expect the number of lines to exactly match between two language releases of the same title (assuming no content was removed)?
  22. I just wanted to point out that this argument is a slippery slope. Suppose MoeNovel was aiming for a Steam release. Would that make their actions any more justified or acceptable?
  23. If the presence of icky ero content was the only issue, MoeNovel would either: 1) Make the content optional (via in-game options or patches), or 2) Release two versions "Opening the community" is a distorted way to think of it. It's quite the opposite. The problem we're dealing with is that mainstream society has instituted blocks against ero content. They've decided such content is unacceptable, and actively discriminate against it. MoeNovel is hacking out content to make it through the hoops that Western mainstream society has erected. This is very saddening. It's not the VN community that's refusing to accept mainstreamers. It's the mainstreamers that are refusing to accept the existing VN community, demanding that VNs be remodeled according to their views of what is morally acceptable. Their acceptance is predicated on our opinions being ignored and disregarded. THAT is the issue: that VNs can only be popularized by carving them up and cutting out the soul of what draws many of us to them, that we must sacrifice to win the approval of the moral majority, that we should purchase the hacked-up localization HAPPILY because otherwise we're not doing our part to support the market. Comparison to console ports does not detract from this point, because the original version still exists in their native language and is accessible to those who want to enjoy it. Choosing to localize an all-ages version is more of a grey area, but at least this doesn't constitute *Westernization*--alternation purely for the purposes of marketing the game in the West.
  24. Kana Little Sister.
  25. Obviously they voiced the lines in Japanese. -_-; MoeNovel is an offshoot of Pulltop after all.
