Visualnovelcharts: A new resource for tracking VN releases
sanahtlig replied to sanahtlig's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Would you like to expand on what elements you'd like to see, or whether other existing English sites highlight new releases more effectively? -
Are there any problems to run Visual Novels on Windows 10?
sanahtlig replied to Einheria's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
>93% of commonly-played VNs work without issue if you're aware of the proper workarounds. Even Duel Savior and Castle Fantasia 2. Most of the remaining 7% are at least partially functional. Windows 10 VN Compatibility List The only VN I've personally come across that doesn't work at all is Gin no Toki no Corona (sequel to Yumina the Ethereal). That one was a true headache to set up in a virtual machine. -
My initial thoughts on Venus Blood Ragnarok, the latest Japanese release in Ninetail's corruption-focused series of erotic SRPGs. [Preview] Venus Blood Ragnarok

How to get Anisotropic upscaling to work on Grisaia no Kajitsu?
sanahtlig replied to jp998's topic in Voluntary Tech Support
The "solution" is to run the game in windowed mode and not try to scale the image in the first place. -
As I recall, you need to use Name Breaker to defeat Evolia (as explained in the scenario, that's the reason only Nozomu can defeat her). Name Breaker reduces the enemy's combat mana regen by 1, so if Evolia started the turn with 2 mana, then uses her healing defense skill to defend (2 mana), she'll start with 1 mana instead of 2 mana on the next turn. If she selects the healing defense skill on her next turn (which she will, if she's still low on HP), then it won't activate due to insufficient mana and the next attack will critical (and likely kill her). Evolia can accrue defense mana over the course of the battle; alternating Name Breaker and Nozomu's Eternal move (-1 mana to target) as necessary, without pushing her to miss a defense skill too early, can help prevent this.

Desperate Answer Needed-Is it safe to travel to Italy?
sanahtlig replied to infel's topic in General Discussion
You're paranoid. Probably should get some help with that. Travel abroad is risky. Many bad things can happen even in the safest of areas: missing your plane, being pickpocketed, losing your luggage, getting lost. Given your anxiety problems it might be best to let someone else manage the trip, someone reliable who's both good at planning and able to improvise when unexpected things happen. -
Original Edited There's also the problem that they're mixing the concepts of "world" and "areas depicted in-game" ("setting in which humans and dragons coexist" vs. "contains 10 cities". That's not even necessarily a language problem; it's a conceptual flaw in the setting. They're incapable of contextualizing the region in which the game takes place in terms of the game world as a whole. In other words: lazy writing.

Potentially false. Pornography use in certain contexts has been implicated for reducing relationship satisfaction / increasing risk of breakup or divorce. One potential explanation is that pornography encourages the development of unrealistic expectations of sexual encounters. Another is that sex drive is often a "glue" that holds romantic relationships together, and pornography enjoyed alone can reduce that drive.

I assume you showed these third parties the original Japanese to solicit this commentary? If not, it's not a commentary on Sakurai's writing style. It's a commentary on Ixrec's translation and editing. That is, your method of critique does not address the question you wanted to answer.

Anyone use Twitter or other social media often?
sanahtlig replied to NowItsAngeTime's topic in Members' Lounge
I use social media to promote my blog. I also occasionally supplement my blogging with retweets and brief commentary on Twitter. -
I like interesting stories that immerse me in an alternative world. The scenario, the succession of interesting scenes, is more important to me than how it's written. Anyone who's played more than a few games with machine translation and enjoyed what they read would have to choose "plot/story", I'd assume?

Going to Japan in a few weeks, need advice
sanahtlig replied to arakura's topic in General Discussion
I'd find a tour group and tag along with them. Going around in a foreign country with no knowledge of the language would be stressful and would require a great deal of planning to get the most out of your time spent. The two of you will probably enjoy yourself more as part of a larger group of people with similar goals as well. -
The wrong way to read Japanese is to read it as a series of kanji pictograms with meanings. That works for a while, but eventually you'll hit a wall. The right way to read is to parse the words and recite them, pronounce them, as you read. If you listen to the voices as you read you'll be polishing your listening and reading skills at the same time. The real dichotomy is not between listening and reading, but between consumption and production. The skills required are very different. I can only fallteringly write and have little or no capability to speak, but I could translate just about anything I come across. There's nothing wrong with determining how you want to use the language and focusing on those aspects.

Dies Irae Steam Confirmed (Prefundia Up Now)
sanahtlig replied to Yuuko's topic in Visual Novel Talk
So there's going to be an 18+ version at no additional cost to backers? Neat. $35 is a good price point too. That pretty much addresses any criticisms I might have had. -

Not sure who the English publisher will be, but it certainly is rare for a Japanese eroge company to do its own console ports. -
Dies Irae Steam Confirmed (Prefundia Up Now)
sanahtlig replied to Yuuko's topic in Visual Novel Talk
They may not have the rights to the Amantes amentes OP. It's also possible that they never had the rights to Amantes amentes to begin with, and it was just a codeword for "Dies Irae without the 18+ content". -
What Decay is looking for is probably a browser plugin like Rikai-kun. Though I'm not sure Decay is actually that interested in the Japanese language to begin with, based on prior comments.

To quote the two synopses: The premises are fundamentally different. One sounds like the stereotypical setup for a nukige. The other sounds like Ah my Goddess and idols shoehorned together. The latter seems to be trying to distance itself from the former, not imitate it.
-
To summarize Decay's message: AGM is likely doing the promotion/marketing/web design for both YumeHaven and MoeNovel. As for the new game, definitely looks like a Sakura Spirit clone. They appear to be trying to beat Winged Cloud at their own game, though we'll see if they price it to reflect that.

The Spanish -> English translation is impressive. I tried it on the Spanish fan translation thread here and the result was better than the English of some non-native speakers I've seen on various boards. It wasn't even particularly difficult to read.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/google-neural-translation-eight-languages,33039.html I tested it for myself and Japanese -> English translation is still not very good, but it's on par with my configured ATLAS which isn't too bad. For the VN I'm currently playing it was understandable. I tried it on a Japanese news site and got mostly gibberish. Spanish -> English could very well have seen a marked improvement, however. Google seems to have focused particularly on Chinese <-> English, so that might have benefited more than Japanese <-> English.

Try one of Eushully's games. I recommend Ikusa Megami Zero. You could also try Baldr Force EXE, which unlike the others in the Baldr series isn't slated to be translated and probably never will be.
