Sekai Project fails to secure nearly finished Baldr Sky fan TL

Seiha reveals that negotiations with Sekai Project for their nearly complete Baldr Sky fan translation have floundered due to gross communication failures. Sekai Project fails to secure nearly finished Baldr Sky fan TL Fuwanovel discussion thread -
Tae Kim, hiragana + katakana memorization, then text hooking VNs and using JParser as a reference for a few years should do the trick. That's more or less equivalent to what I did (I started out with a year of Japanese courses instead of Tae Kim).

The School Days series is one-of-a-kind. The combination of full animation and highly-branching scenario are unique to Overflow (AFAIK), and they don't even make games like this anymore. You could also try Rondo Duo. That's probably the only game made by a different developer, in English, that comes close. For Japanese titles, there's also Sisters and Love x Evolution. That's pretty much it.

None of Ninetail's game are translated. I did review Venus Blood Gaia, so you can get a sense of the story there. Different games in the series have different themes. Hypno, for example, is focused on hypnosis and enslavement, and the protagonist is more ruthless and ambitious.

The Venus Blood series tends to have perverted protagonists. It's possible to integrate such a characteristic into a semi-serious story, but most games will use it as a pivot for comedy. The Venus Blood games instead use it as a pivot for true depravity.

Sekai Project fails to secure nearly finished Baldr Sky fan TL

It could be that JAST stung him one too many times and now he demands full control of the project from start to finish. As for doing his own thing, Aroduc seems to only work on gameplay titles (that I'm aware of). He may actually refuse anything else, and there's a very limited number of gameplay title licenses available at any given time. So maybe he just fan translates in between opportunities to translate for a gameplay VN localization project. -

Well, actually--Aroduc and Seiha fan-translated Duel Savior. It's possible that actually drew GIGA's attention and pissed them off. But in that case, Sekai Project wouldn't have made an offer, they probably would've just DMCA'd him. -

I don't see any good business reason not to use Aroduc's work, if he made a reasonable offer. He's worked with JAST, who are notoriously inept with their project handling, so his expectations can't be THAT high. There's no hint of this in Aroduc's post, but suppose Aroduc had demanded an adult release and Sekai Project refused to guarantee that? That would be the only situation I could reasonably imagine where they'd have no choice but to turn Aroduc down (and maybe stonewall him and hope he changed his mind). -

This. I'll repost what I posted on 4chan when the topic I came up. Requotes for emphasis. Rates aren't something you (usually) lock down at the start of negotiation. Refusing to hand over unfinished work and let someone else finish it could very well be. Sekai Project wanted Aroduc and friends to take the money and walk away. Aroduc gave them the finger: it was THEIR work and THEIR project. That's my working hypothesis at the moment. Fan translators don't care that much about money. They wouldn't be doing what they do if they did. For fan translators, it's all about pride in one's work. The last thing you should ever tell a fan translator is, "Take this wad of cash and hand over your work, no questions asked." People like Aroduc and Moogy will tell you to shove it. It's their baby. -

I'm racking up a record of -22 votes and counting for posting a link nearly identical to this thread's OP in one of the comments. -

I don't think that was the dealbreaker. I think THAT was it. -

That beats the necessary skill for any Nutaku fan: learning Japanese. Not kidding. I rewrote part of the in-game help section for Nutaku's Girls Kingdom, based on the Japanese wiki and my own independent research, because it was wholly inadequate and read like it was translated by an ESL student. You'll notice because it's the part in English. -

Sekai Project has a tendency to deflect responsibility (and attention) by leaving questions unanswered and waiting for fans to lose interest and move onto something else. They haven't earned the benefit of the doubt, so I assume what they announce is exactly what they plan to release, no more and no less. -

Retracted. Upon reflection I acknowledge Audi's replies are actually pretty amusing. -

I'm not. I only post there occasionally when a topic interests me. That's the first thread I've seen where a non-Dovac company spokesperson was downvoted into the negatives multiple times on /r/vns. That a thread filled with company replies has been pushed down to the bottom of the comments (and his responses to questions hidden) is striking, highly unusual, and potentially significant. Anti-SP fervor seems to be on the rise. -

Well no, there's at least two alternate explanations: Nutaku negotiated for exclusive distribution rights Denpasoft saw distribution on Nutaku-only as preferable to distribution on their own store + Nutaku You assume that Denpasoft would always prefer that customers use their store, but maintaining a storefront has a cost. Why do so many indie devs use Steam as their sole distribution outlet? Surely not because Valve negotiated exclusive distribution deals. No, they simply view Steam as the most efficient way to distribute their product. They see no need to have their own store. I currently favor 1), but 2) is by no means unreasonable, especially if Sekai Project had been considering phasing out their storefront. -

Audi went into full Nutaku Protection Mode, which even caught me by surprise. Also, this sounds like a deal negotiated specifically for this title, as he mentioned that other upcoming titles will still see releases on the Denpasoft store. Nutaku may have negotiated for exclusive distribution rights. -
School Days is one of the easier titles for those wary of text games to get into, since it's like an interactive anime.

The first point is patently false. I can't comment on the second point, but they've literally removed characters from Aigis and redrawn faces for Osawari. People use Nutaku because the audience they draw are literally first-time eroge players whose prior experience with erotic games is likely limited to Newgrounds. Anything is a step up from that. This quote by SP literally made me do a double-take though. Really ironic choice of words. -

I need something more than a typo to go on. I'd need evidence that entire phrases are mistranslated on a regular basis to make the argument that Nutaku is utterly incompetent (or lying). There's plenty of that in Girls Kingdom, but Flower Knight Girl is supposed to be "fine". -

Nutaku said they freaking fixed their translation issues in the interview with LewdGamer (starting with Flower Knight Girls). Were they lying through their teeth again?
