INSERT VISUAL NOVEL HERE is a LOWER THAN ONE MIGHT USUALLY RATE SAID GAME/10 game. It has great moments, yes, but overall it isn't all that impressive. IMHO it does not deserve very high a place in the hallmark of VN's. Actually I should've just added Clannad to that meme with a score of zero because I honestly couldn't bother actually playing more than an hour. Romance is needed for a visual novel to be great, but a story simply about love should never be scored a 10. Most stories that have love as the singular theme always tend to rely on the same cliche problems, disasters, or general plotlines and are never unpredictable. In my opinion, being able to guess the story from the beginning with absolute certainty means the story isn't entirely great. Also am I the only one who randomly stalls a game/show/VN for no real reason? I have the time and it interests me, but I'll just... stall something and play another game even though I am not tired or wanting to take a break. Maybe I'm weird?

I'm just screwing with you. C: But despite what has been said I still can't imagine why people would have him as 'least liked protagonist' unless you have a generally small pool of VNs played. I can agree he's an ass and a bit of a gary stue, but his character is still too entertaining for me.

So what I'm getting is that he's bad because he wakes up early? I really don't see the relevance to that statement at all. It's like calling Shirou bad because he has red hair, or Kenichi because he carries a case around. It's just a thing they happen to have/do and I am unsure as to why that was even mentioned.

I like Yuuji as a protagonist to the point where I can't believe people disliking him is anything but some weird meme I'm not privy to. Most interesting MC that I know of, at least, and his flaws are warranted considering how he came to be. While I would never agree I can at least understand the reasoning behind disliking Rance, despite him being best gril for sure. But anyhue, I think Subaru is literally the worst sack of crap ever put in an MC's shoes. Honestly there is nothing redeeming about him at all, though I guess he does get his just desserts (Game ALMOST makes me feel sorry for him).

Alternative hit me pretty hard. Especially when I think I was also rocked when I finished a certain Tsundere's route in Ever17. Not gunna lie I couldn't really motivate myself to do anything after that.

People who don't rate MLA a 10, Clannad a 1.1 (can't rate 1.0 until you're dying because of how VNDB works), and think Yuuji isn't the best protagonist in a visual novel to date are just lacking in taste. ....Actually I think my opinion might be a bit more popular, judging by other replies. Nevermind~ Oh, I got it. I never think about skipping an H-scene, especially when they involve copious amounts of references to mollusks.

While you can do that, the game has much more of an impact when you play the other two. I suggest putting in the time with Extra and Unlimited, it's really worth the time spent. And to be honest, despite it not being too original, it's actually fairly entertaining.

And finally, there is no Extra feature in MLA, which is the only true downside to the VN in my opinion.

Indeed katawa shoujo is one of the best vns for starters along with narcissu and even if you already have read a lot of vns still is an amazing one Kenichi is the best protagonist of any vn I've read so far, give him a chance Prepare some tissues and dont use any guide to pick any girl, just follow your own choices the first time you play it, trust me if you use a guide the first time you will regret, after that you can use one. Obvious spoilers above, don't read if you no spoiler (obviously)

In my honest opinion, Katawa Shoujo is one of the greatest VNs out there, as far as a first VN goes. It was what got me into VNs along with Bible Black. However, I can't really recommend it as anything but a visual novel for one to start with. The routes are good, for the VN's origins, but it is nothing special. I myself really enjoyed Emi and Hanako's routes, so if you haven't decided on which one I'll suggest those two. I think most people found Emi the best heroine to start with, just how it goes usually.

I have no idea what the other one is but I really enjoy Fate/Stay Night. It's in third place in my VNDB, right under MLA and G-sen which I also very much recommend if you haven't played those. But anyway, FSN is really good. I think I enjoy the fighting scenes in it more than any other VN, and the story and characters are all pretty interesting as well. I can't say anything about the other one because I haven't even heard about it. Maybe someone else can say something on it.

Chelsea really was not given enough screentime nor character development to ever warrant sad feelings in my opinion. She was the one they killed off simply to lay down the law, which is that people are going to die and you should watch yourself before you get fucking rekt. Bulat, however, made me very sad. Why must all the bros die? Even our green-headed bro died too. D: -
Man, I hear so much good things about Umineko but I still haven't read it. A lot of my friends rate it a ten, along with Muv Luv Alternative, so I guess since I tend to share the same tastes in characters, VNs, anime, and games, I should listen, but I guess the No Sexual Content Tag on VNDB length keeps putting me off.

My favorites this year were: Both Skyreach and Liar Mask from Akame ga Kill (Also really enjoyed the first ending) Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul Silvery Wind from Madan no ou to Vanadis Darakena from Histugi no Chaika (Probably my favorite) Database from Log Rising 2 (Obviously) Existence from Shingeki no Bahamut eventually grew on me too Let me hear from Parasyte Black Bullet from itself Also the Engaged to the Unidentified OP, but the ED is probably twenty times better. (Mashiro a cute)

Disclaimer: Something about me going through my second replaythrough of Sharin and I remember why exactly I love Kenichi after the whole thing involving his case being opened. Alright, I mentioned something about one of my current VNs..... Am I the only one who just wants to punch Natsumi? She has a few cute moments, sure, but overall, her attitude is very shit and I honestly thought she had some form of mental disability at first. Even after completing the game, I still did not care much for her. I suggest Sachi, as it resonated with me the most as I have more or less the same problem with doing work, and also because Sachi a cute.
