So I just purchased a new laptop, which I assume will have Windows 8 installed by default. This'll be my first time using it, and in the past having seen threads in tech support asking for help with problems dealing with it, I'm not sure whether I should just put 7 on it or not. Anyone using 8 have problems with it?

Edit: Not sure if this is the right place to be asking this, so if it's in the wrong area, my bad.

Windows 8 will run most games perfectly fine as long as you set up locale and everything properly.  If you don't, you'll get errors like on any other OS.  Every game I've played on Windows 8 (~100, both translated and untranslated) has not caused any problems.

And if it does, just install a virtual machine.  Problem solved.

I have always used windows 8 for VNs and never had problems. except that one cursed VN that needs vista or older to run #neverforget

I'm more interested in what will happen when windows 10 is out.

guess when playing fairly new titles, there shouldnt be any issues, but when it comes to older ones....

best thing is to stay safe & have a 2nd pc/laptop nearby with xp installed.

Shouldn't be a problem, really. Not sure about W10, though. We'll see. As long as kernel and libraries stay intact, I'd say the backwards compatibility will be fine as well. I've ran even fairly old visual novels on W8 myself and they all worked like a breeze. The system itself is still shit, though.

The only two I've ever had a problem with were the Muv Luv games and the original Kana~Imouto~ (which worked after I played around with compatibility settings). I was worried when I got my Windows 8 laptop too, but it works perfectly fine.
