Why is it rare for a VNs (or stories as general) protagonist to have these 10 quallities?

The problem I have with protagonist with these defined by these traits is how uninteresting they are. Masaya in Princess Evangile has a lot of these traits and as a result many scenes that should be emotional, intense or at the very least get your blood boiling are missed because he just shrugs it off and more or less says "oh well, shit happens" in the most peaceful way possible.

Actually I take that back, Masaya does get your blood boiling; at how ridiculously passive he is.

As others have mentioned. Having a character with all those traits would come off so perfect, it'd be impossible to connect with him. He'd be a alien.

Completely on the other side of the spectrum you have the blank slate protag. So blank you can't even connect with him as a character, because he's so weak.

Having a great character is having a set of contradictory qualities or basis on something other than pure ideal.

  • Righteous, on his own ideals.
  • Brave, for personal interest.
  • Strong, against struggle, but avoids hardship
  • Straightforward generally, but might fret on things.
  • Responsible & dependable, fucks with you if you depend too much on him.
  • Generally honest, lies because why not.
  • Clever, while being narrow minded.
  • Humble, while being arrogant inside.
  • Caring, for his own interests
  • Kind, because he wants others to accept him.

"Roughly" normal people are like this. We don't act on ideal, we act on whim and personal benefit.

The Perfect Man is a 2005 romantic comedy film directed by Mark Rosman and written by Gina Wendkos. It stars Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear and Chris Noth. Filming of the movie began in May 2004. The film received mostly negative reviews from critics and the film was a box office loss.

Teenager Holly Hamilton (Hilary Duff) is tired of moving every time her single mom Jean (Heather Locklear) is through with her latest mistake of a man. To prevent her mother from making another bad decision, Holly has an idea: create a secret admirer who is the perfect man. But things spin out of control and Holly has to improvise.

a movie about a perfect man cant even pull it off then who can, that answer is no one since the perfect man is boring and cause a lot of trouble.

Welp, everyone already said most of what needed to be said... But I would like to add that it's not the fact that the said protagonist is good or evil, but how balanced he is in the middle. A completely evil character is just as boring and predictable as a perfectly good character. Humans are in their own nature, not angels nor devils, but something in between. Even Hitler had some good qualities, and even the prophets of the Bible committed some mistakes.

That's what makes the human race as interesting as it is. There is a large space between pure good and pure evil, which allows for a lot of variety between mankind.

I would argue classical Greek tragedy has nearly perfect heroes. Oedipus the King is all about a righteous, brave, strong, straightforward, dependable, honest, clever, humble, caring and kind king trying to find the truth. It just turns out the truth is horrible.

That's the keyword - tragedy. There's no place a character like this can go but down. A character like this doesn't develop unless he's deconstructed. When characters don't develop, there's no story.

That's a good point. The only times near perfect characters can be interesting is if they fall from their grace, Hell even Jesus temporarily died. Your bringing up Greek tragedy just reminded me of Aristotle, and I think he said something quite similar. How when glorious characters fall, they must also fall from a grave miscalculation (or fate). Allowing the audience to sympathize, since misfortune or poor judgement is something everyone has experienced before.

Regarding comedies though, they require flawed characters to be interesting :D

To be honest, if a protagonist just fulfills two or three of those they could be considered a good person.  Humility clashes with righteousness most of the time, for one thing.  Righteousness is generally one step away from arrogance, in most cases, lol.  Also, righteous is annoying as hell.  Give me a protagonist who knows what he wants is wrong but proceeds anyway over that type any day.  As is said above, a story without character development isn't really a story at all... its a fable or a myth.
