Eclipsed Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 1. New chat is fun. RIP old chat. Rename it "Maef & Friends" 2. Hopefully the BBCode and Edit functions can be implemented! 3. Front page..? If you want, we can remove the rules page, but until the people demand the change and storm the gates, it stays up That's the "I Agree' page that pops up every. single. time. you open the chat in a new page right? ..Guys, time to whip out them pitchforks!@# Quote

OriginalRen Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The chat program is awesome. It was quite nice to sign into it right now and to see a lot of our Japanese VN readers discussing novels they have read in their original language. Nice addition guys. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Nice addition guys. Wouldn't that imply we didn't have one previously? Because we did. And tried to advertise it at every opportunity. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I mean, I'm not saying it was crap, but it was crap. Quote

Nosebleed Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 That's how a basic chat works. What you want is an advanced chat. Images are Hitler, editing is pretty uncommon anyway, sound effects can be disabled, in most chats you just quote someone by using @ like a normal person Timestamps could be useful yes, but the chat does have general timestamps. Meh I don't care about it enough to fight for it, but i think this one is just more effective and easy to use. Private chats are a huge plus too. The other one is more wonky and always requires reloading for random reasons, this one just feels more stable. The kick option is fun too. Quote
Nayleen Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Both implementations suck, but at least the new one is hosted off-site (at Invisionpro's servers) and should be updated way more often. Maybe we'll see some improvements being made to it over time. Quote

Is it even valid to say that a chat is "easy to use" when all you have to do is type and press enter? If you say it looks better or smoother you might have a point, but easy to use is just nonsense. *chat does not have a bunch of features the other one had* *chat is more effective* I'll give you aesthetics, that sound effects are a moot point and private chats. Furthermore I can concede it might feel smoother or something (lol I dunno). But nothing else. General Timestamps < Per Post Timestamps Kicking is fun for lurkers Furthermore, if you have images you have reason to kick more often, which you could do in the other one. Both implementations suck, but at least the new one is hosted off-site (at Invisionpro's servers) and should be updated way more often. Maybe we'll see some improvements being made to it over time. Boo, hiss. Everything sucks! Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The other one doesn't allow kicking, only banning. That itself is a major upgrade because i can do it endlessly Like I said i don't care enough to argue for either i just want a functional chat and the new one is more similar to standard IRC chats which i'm more used to dealing with and doesn't break as far as i've seen. The old Fuwachat would often just stop loading messages and force me to reload the page, this one hasn't done that so far even with a big influx of messages (which is usually what breaks the other one). Tay Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 We're going to have to live with the new one's current lack of features. It does look nice and private conversations are great, but the key feature is that admins can kick everyone out with the click of a button. THIS is the kind of power I've been waiting for. First step: ban teh torrents Second step: ban teh sexualized lolis Third step: ban everything Fourth step: kick everyone out of chat Fifth step: burn the site to the ground Sixth step: enjoy the throne PS: I've contacted invision about Firefox and a few other bugs users have reported. They're no-doubt swamped by the wide swath of destruction left in the wake of IPB4's release, but maybe -- just maybe -- we'll hear back from them. Quote
Flutterz Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I feel compelled to argue that RIP Firefox Users. So basically you're agreeing with Nosebleed that the new one is better? Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 So basically you're agreeing with Nosebleed that the new one is better? I don't particularly care either way. But beyond "it looks better, has private chats, and you can kick people" I can't see how it's better than the other one in any way. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I find it hard to say which one is better because it really depends on personal experience and what you expect from a chat. To me, the old fuwachat just wasn't as fun of an experience because of bugs I agree the new one lacks features in comparison, that much is obvious, but I don't see this lack of features as detrimental since it's not like you can't effectively chat in it. And since you can chat in it without it bugging out or making me reload the page, I've had a more fun time in it. Also the chat window is bigger which is REALLY helpful. And since invision seems to want to update it often, we can always hope for more things to be introduced. Tay 1 Quote
Down Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 The multi-posts bug also affected Chrome for me btw. Quote
Eclipsed Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 New chat's aight. aesthetically more pleasing, can kick ppl instead of ban (although can't delete posts), better update/refresh, whisper, however lacking common text editing features & whatnot. Are there plans to keep both, or to just gank one of them? Quote
Segai Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 One very important feature would be spoiler tags though as we often discuss VNs and as we all know, discussing VNs without any spoilers doesn't work. Considering the nature of the chat application it's probably not possible (difficult) to add this though. As for the img tag, I would love to have it but restricted in size, that way we can have custom emoticons and Lewy doesn't spam up the chat with his giant gifs. Considering this is being hosted elsewhere the performance impact is very minimal right? Can we increase the AFK timer then, a lot of people (including me) often just have it open and lurk while doing other things. Being kicked every 10 minutes is mildly annoying. Quote
Segai Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Trying to join the chat today and this happened: This happens after you click the "I agree" button. Quote
Nosebleed Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Can confirm chat can not be accessed even by staff. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Trying to join the chat today and this happened: This happens after you click the "I agree" button. Did you make sure you agree? So you truly, really agree to the conditions? It might have detected some hesitation in your heart as you pressed the button. Liars will not be tolerated. You are only let it if you truly agree to the conditions. Can confirm it doesn't work. My heart is impure... Quote
Yuuko Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Didn't work just few minutes ago but it seems to be working again. Quote
Zakamutt Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Until timeout is set to at least like ~1 hour the chat is essentially unusuable by me as I really can't be bothered to reload every x minutes. The only way I would use the old one in the first place is with Nay's userscript though, without that the experience is utterly terrible. Quote

Eclipsed Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I'm sure they can change the kick timer to have a more generous duration. If not I officially declare Fuwachat 2.0 a failure. Quote
