I am unfortunately unable to join because of scheduling, but man, I must say, I really wished this was a thing five to seven years ago. It would have made my VN reading college life so much more fun. Back then, I searched all over for Western VN fans and found very little. I was born too early (>u<)/~

 

If it is a group that folks can hop on and off of, I might be down for a read during Christmas .

It's been only some days since we decided to read Ayakashibito, yet it should be enough for first impressions of the game. Don't worry, we will have more in-depth discussion in the 21...

So, what are your thoughts on the game so far, people? Any favorite heroine? Did the beginning surprise you?

I'll chime in with my basic impressions, since I already read this and it's still pretty fresh in mind.  I quite liked Ayakashibito, it definitely ranks in my favorite 5 novels, though I'm not sure where it falls exactly in that list.

 

My favorite heroine is Suzu, but my favorite route was probably Kaoru's, since

that's the one where Reina lives and finds love.

Suzu is still my favorite heroine, though Tonya comes in a close second.  I still think the paths are better than the heroines in most cases (lol), but that is a quality common to all the good Propeller games, so I don't find it dissatisfying.

Oh, you chose a game I read a lot of. I can join, then. I really liked the beginning of Ayakashibito, through Kaoru's eyes. I always thought it was a neat touch. Gave a pretty... off? perception of the protagonist, though, but I appreciate seeing through the eyes of a pursuer hot on the trail instead of the pursued. Especially a career woman...! Ichinotani Shuugen is and always will be the best character in my eyes. He had me at first blush...! (... Shuugen is my oasis. Long live good guys in porn games! ...On the other hand, my least favourite character was also a guy... heh.) They also do a pretty good job of showing just what Jinyou go through and developing reasons why humans would possibly discriminate. I was really, really into the prologue, as you watched Shouichi yearn for a better life and slowly build his way to maybe attempting to be normal if he can get away with it.

 

The rest... isn't about the beginning but the rest of the novel. Official apologies, will edit out if needed:

 

 

 

 

The Bad:

Just a couple of bad H-scenes -- that's more or less my only complaint.  In general, there seem to be a bunch of less-than-necessary H-scenes, but I only really care about the completely ridiculous ones that break immersion with the story.  Specifically, I think it would be better without:

1. Suzu "how do i pee" scene

2. Kaoru sex in the middle of raiding the enemy base

I would have loved is the initial tone of the vn continued longer than it did. Sadly, it soon led to a section with felt out of place and dragged in general... "lol this kind of section... well I suppose it is a jvn, so it has to have this retarded bit".

 

Obviously this makes some sense in the story as constructed; I just wish it was written so this shit didn't happen. In the end, I felt that it clashed too hard with the interesting parts of the vn... and that's where I'll stop for now, I guess? w

I liked how it started off with the mysterious escape of the main characters. It adds up to the interest of how the heck did they do that. Also, the idea of them gaining powers from a disease that has unknown origins is very intriguing too, although the reason was revealed very early. I like how the MC sees the world, but I disapprove of his voice. Wtf. He has this nice build, and he's also a Jinyou with a unique power. But his voice. So respectful. So nice. So soft. It's like it was meant to mislead people into believing he was weak.

 

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the MC and his gang clash against Dominion. Fights are the highlight of these kind of novels anyway. Also looking forward to more Ichina scenes.

 

...I think I also got spoiled about Shuugen. Goddamnit.
