Eclipsed Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 It's been a long running joke that I don't read VNs and need to constantly "refuel" and/or have long durations of reading-drought, but apparently over the past 8 months I've read 22 VNs, which averages to something like 1 VN per 11 days. Not bad, for a FT student also working PT. Anyways, last time I was compelled to finish Tokyo Babel and so thoust didiths. Good call, folks I pray I haven't been too spoiled by modern graphics, but it's time to start knocking out some of the older VNs on my backlog that I'm interested in. So... choose. Quote
Darklord Rooke Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Fate was translated horribly, it also rhymes with ‘hate’ which is obviously a sign. Ever 17 is boring and it’ll feel like it’ll drag on ‘forever’. Muv Luv is getting a new translation, so may as well wait. You included the words ‘Neko Para’ in the second option, which is code for ‘the Devil’ so that’s obviously out. Alas, it’s option number 5 by default. Eclipsed and Rose 2 Quote
Dergonu Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Eww! Bad art! All trash. 0/10 games I haven't played any of these myself, because we are apperantly like, equally scrubby. Voting for fate/stay because that's the one of these I'd be the most interested in playing first. 1 minute ago, Rooke said: Fate was translated horribly, it also rhymes with ‘hate’ which is obviously a sign. I did not conisder that! Eclipsed 1 Quote
Deep Blue Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Muv luv needs more love...get it? get it...? Eclipsed, Vorathiel and Dergonu 3 Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 One, two and four will take hours and hours of your life to complete. They're all monstrous. I would exclude Muv Luv given the retranslation it's getting. Umineko will quite literally take a week of consecutive reading with no breaks to make any progress at all. Please sign here to sell your soul (and time) to the devil: I'm currently reading Amnesia;Memories. It's good. Nom Nom Nom Ever17 is also good, but as Rooke stated, it has some 'boring' moments; that is to say, moments where the characters are just hanging around and conversing and slice of life goodness, which I suppose hurts a tight sci-fi story more than they help it. However, I also believe you like slice of life nonsense so I don't see the problem. Fate/Stay: Night is good and terrible. It's got so much content there were whole routes I hated, routes I loved, characters I hated, characters I loved, scenes I hated, scenes I loved. Ultimately, since you seem more tolerant of the darker side of stories than I, I'd recommend it. Eclipsed 1 Quote
Decay Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Don't do Muv Luv now when a version with a much improved translation is coming out next month. (Well, of MLE/MLU) Read Fata Morgana, fool. Eclipsed 1 Quote
Down Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 >oldies >nothing <2000 in the list plz also read umineko it's good extremely fun (and will indeed take enormous amounts of time) Eclipsed 1 Quote

Narcosis Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 None of the vn's you listed are really worth reading vs time investment required to finish them; There are better games out there. If you really want to read older vn's that badly, you should pick something like ToHeart, Yu-no, Sayooshi or perhaps Kakyuusei, if you like gameplay/simulation elements mixed in. Depends on your interests. In worst case, I'd say read Ever17. Eclipsed 1 Quote
Jartse Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Very rarely do people read vns for the graphics! (maybe except nukige readers) Graphics wise all of them aren't so far behind the stuff in 201x (ok maybe umineko is borderline) Given whats rated high on your vndb go forever21 Eclipsed 1 Quote
Decay Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I'd say that Ever17's art is a bit on the crude side, actually. Unmodified, original Umineko is obviously extremely crude. I rather liked the PS3 art, though. Muv Luv's art is mostly okay, except that character design is something else. It is clearly inspired by a certain early era of harem comedy, and the hair is especially silly. Mostly in a bad way. If you do play Umineko, get the most enhanced version possible, that full PS3-to-PC port that russian team is working on. Unfortunately, I think only the first 3 episodes are available for that. Ya, I think that's exactly why I never got around to actually playing Umineko the uh, last time I mentioned it. ~~ Fate/Stay's winning, and I also have my promise with Zeno-kun, sooo Quote
Jade Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Umi love live Neko Para Naku Koro Ni (Umineko) It got 'Umi' and 'Love Live' . What more do you want? Quote
Arcadeotic Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Eh, I don't really fancy any of these I have no prior experience on Muv-Luv and it'd be rather redundant to play it at this point. I absolutely won't vote for Fate under any circumstances Ever17's premise seems nice, but again, no prior experience Umineko is pretty great, but I doubt you have the time, will nor patience for it Amnesia is really delicious, I'll go with it Quote
Fred the Barber Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 You should play F/SN if only so poor Zeno can finally relax. Quote
