Mkilbride Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Eroge or not is fine. There is one, that released recently, about some sex dungeon I read about it, I can't recall the name, but I remember not wanting to read that. It has to have a -good- story, with the elements I mentioned above, one or all of them. Good characters are important, but are worthless without a good story. I've read(in the styles I'm mentioning) G-Senjou no Mao, Saya no Uta, Swan Song, Hanachimasru(However it's spelt) Kikokai the Cyber Slayer, tried Kara no Shojo, but that one may have been even a little bit too much for me, though I hope to try it again some day. Muv Luv series(Alternative counts, I guess), Sekien no Inganock, and trying Sharnoth again now, but it's tough to get into. I've played Chaos;Head, years and years ago. Umineko / Higurashi as well. Also read the Rememember11 / Ever17 ones. Probably some I'm forgetting, but I'm hoping with these, you can get the gist of what I'm asking for. Quote
Narcosis Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 You couldn't stomach Kara no Shoujo but ask for dreary vn's with themes of desperation and mindfuck? Tsk tsk It's like the lightest kind of stuff you can get in that department I'd recommend some titles, but I doubt you'd be able to read them. Silvz 1 Quote
SilverLi Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 In other words you want something intriguing with some good story? if you can't stand Kara no Shoujo you would probably not enjoy euphoria. But that is most likely not up your alley then. I am not that familiar with Cartagra but it is from the creators of Kara no Shojo. Perhaps it is what you want. Someone perhaps could confirm that for me? perhaps Fata Morgana? Quote
SilverLi Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Just now, Zenophilious said: Kara no Shoujo is the sequel to Cartagra. I don't think that's a good idea : P Alright. I checked vndb and it said they only shared characters so I thought it was different games. Thanks! Quote

Mkilbride Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 I'm looking at Fata Morgana and definitely going to give it a try. The art reminds me of this free VNM I read, that involved a mansion and this little girl...wish I could remember the name. I know, I know, Kara no Shojo was too much for me, but I liked Saya no Uta. Just Kara seemed to do it for shock value. Also Euphoria was the one I was thinking of when I thought of the sex dungeon, the story of that one just didn't interest me. Ones like Saya no Uta / Swan Song are my favorites. Quote
Deep Blue Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 this one was a really fucked up vn, really interesting if you can muster all the rape and torture that is going on xD https://vndb.org/v18806 Quote
dfbreezy Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 I'm surprised no one mentioned Rewrite yet. for me that Visual novel left an emotional scar that will never heal. The despair in it is real. the Hopelessness in it is real. Quote

Also the description about some guy wanting a sex slave hardly seems like it's interesting, though I can't say, as I can't read it regardless. Also, Rewrite is key @dfbreezy - I'm looking for good stories. I've read three of Keys stories. One ~ - which was pretty damn good, I thought. Depressing as hell. I then read Kanon...which was ok. THen I tried to read Moon, but couldn't get into it. Then I tried Clannad, did one route and found out it was basically Kanon all over again. Like almost copy + paste. Key seems to stick to a very basic set of characters / themes, they don't really line up with what I'm asking for. Quote
Kabu Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 How are Clannad and Kanon even remotely similar besides being depressing and mostly Slice of Life? Their casts are entirely different, the settings are entirely different, and not to mention their very themes are different. Heck, their protagonists and main heroines (I personally consider Ayu Kanon's main heroine) are like night and day. Also, only playing one route in Clannad is like saying you quit an RPG during the prologue, it's not enough to have really gathered any real information on the game or what it's about. Quote
Ariurotl Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Yeah, with Clannad you just sort of have to endure all the shit to get to After Story, which is worthy of praise (well, about a third of it, at least). Quote
Mkilbride Posted July 28, 2016 Author Posted July 28, 2016 I don't enjoy Keys stories, it's simply as they, don't fit the dark, dreary, hopelessness to me. They feel like pandering. As if Key has no talent beyond telling a specific kind of story. It just feels..hammy, after you've read / watched a few key works. I've already been spoiled about the big reveal of Clannad and shake my head at it, classic Key. Quote
Cidra Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 If you're still looking then go play Danganronpa 1 & 2 if you haven't yet. The games filled with mystery, twist up the wazoooo and gets seriously dark in places. Oh and the hopelessness is mind blowing. Then you and I can chat about the new anime that's playing atm. Quote
sevencamelot Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 What about Yume Miru Kusuri? Well to be honest theres only 3 girls and I only liked the Cat girl route, but it kind of has the theme you're looking for. Quote

Bullying is a real life problem and it's very specific, there were some serious scenes in Aeka's route but I'm sure it can be done more extremely (like Euphoria for example). Aeka's route would be far better without all the porn though... Quote

The whole time I kept wondering is this really some magical girl, or just some crazy as girl. It's kind of dreary in that your never sure and it makes you feel bad for her state of mind. She keeps insisting she wants to go back to her world, but all evidence points to that shes just a normal girl. The protagonist seems to juggle whether to appeal to her dream world or get her help. Okarin Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 Yup, it's the least bad route. Bullying route is simply bad and class rep route I dislike very much. For me the class rep was even crazier than the cat girl. At least the cat girl had an alibi. Quote

Dangaroppa is on my list as well. I'm almost with with Sharnoth right now, but really not enjoying it. It has 10 acts, yes? I'm almost on Act 9 and so far...nothing has happened, storywise. It feels like zero progress since Act 2. Quote

Only if you can't dissociate from what happens in the game. Like there are quite some people who can't (or aren't comfortable with) roleplay truly evil characters. Quote

I'm not against such things, but every review says you have to slog through a bunch of uninteresting, disgusting sex stuff, before you get to the actual meat / good part of the story. I'm not willing to do that. It looks like a game all about shock value, not good characters or stories. Quote
Okarin Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Like our Kurisu nailed it: it's a game for sadists. Those will enjoy the scenes I think. If not, you're in for a lot of boredom, at the best of cases. Quote
Mr Nol Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I don't know if you will like this but, Taimanin Asagi series I guess haha https://vndb.org/v10899 and Towako https://vndb.org/v13015 anything by Lilith soft really. And upcoming manga gamer title Maggot Bait. Quote
