Hi guys, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this visual novel, Ore-tachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai, will possibly ever get a full translation or patch. I've been really interested in this visual novel for a while for some reason it just gave me that feeling like I'd like reading this one, feels very unique. I'd been grateful for any information people got to spare. Thank you! :D

in case you come up with a legit method of transmutating kanji puns and whatsnot into western-ish glyphs, whilst keeping their spirit alive, the chances are good, otherwise better bury every hopes of oretsuba ever seeing an official western release, like ever ever.

Welcome to Fuwanovel. About Oretsuba, there's no known translation project here. Although if talking about possibility, maybe it will got full translation but no in near time (It could be 10 years later) or maybe never. I'd also read that this VN might be hard to translate here, so maybe some translator also discouraged to translate this. Hope my answer here help.

Nobody will ever get near that VN, I'll guarantee that. The group would get a lot of hate and apart from that, as @XReaper said, the translator and editor would have to be gods to change Japanese unique puns to Western puns. Don't expect to have an English patch for that game ever. Apart from that, welcome I guess? :makina:

Ah I see, thanks for your replies guys and thank you for welcoming me :)

Too bad that the likelihood is extremely low though, I got the feeling I would of enjoyed this one but oh well.

Also, don't forget that Navel games are quite strongly linked to Mangagamer. I don't know their current standing with them, seeing as a few titles have been removed off their site, but they still have at least 2 Navel games, meaning the title will be even less attractive to fan translators, simply because of the small chance that Mangagamer lashes out. (I was personally turned off the idea of working on a Sono Hana title for the same reason.) The chance is really small, but it is still an uncomfortable thought, knowing your hard work might end up being for nothing, should something happen.

They have apperantly mentioned having an interest in the title in the past, though the cost of localizing the game was an issue at the time. (This being based of a post on VNDB, so I can't account for its credibility.)

So what you are saying is that if someone actually decides to start a fan translation project, there will be the low chance Mangagamer will decide to start working on it making it a waste of time?

more like send a cease and desist to stop the translation, I highly doubt they will start the translation after that and even if they do it could take years. This is one of those games that you either learn japanese to read it or just give it up.

that possibility is always there, same as coming to every other title. personally i dont think mangagamer would take an offensive stance against a potential fan-tl, forwhy it´s pretty unlikely of them going to touch it themselves, but you never know. and regarding a translation of oretsuba itself, be it fanmade or of official nature, a backlash/hatestorm is pretty much guarantied for lots of different reasons. sure in the end everything is translatable, as a translation is always ones own interpretation of a source - there is and wont ever be 100% accuracy in a literal manner, so a team could try being "creative" and work around its impossible parts by either replacing the kanji puns with little poems, changing the narrative to crude/ cryptic, completely eradicating the titles prose and re-telling it in a lyrical manner, etc etc., but like i said this would be guarantied to result in a backlash community-wise, deemed an impudent works of utmost fanfic...

edit: not to mention oretsuba being a works which defines itself mostly through prose, instead of actual happenings (plot, etc.), so heavy alterations for the sake of localising it could very much result in it becoming worthless from a literary point of view. also keep in mind that even stuff such as fire emblem, where literary accuracy absolutely doesnt matter (excl. plotrelevant scenes), got shitstormed the living fucks out of it upon its release.
