Akimoto Masato Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Is it weird that I play a fuck ton of visual novels off an SSD? They are such small games that I don't need my HDDs for them so I just save my HDD for bigger games Quote

pual Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 (edited) I plan to upgrade to Ryzen, if it performs well. It would replace motherboard, CPU and RAM from i5 build. AMD Ryzen R5 1500 Kingston HyperX 2x8GB DDR4 (from discount, ram prices are ridiculous) AMD R9 285 ASRock AB350 / ASUS Prime B350 PLUS / BIOSTAR RACING B350 GT5 (needs more info) Possible cpu cooler if stock one sucks (no AM4 mount for current one) 2x 3TB Toshiba HDD, Intel 840 240gb , intel 60gb ssd 500W PSU Laptop: HP Pavilion DV2000 series. It's laptop I bought used in 2007 with 14.1" widescreen. Still works for light tasks. Edited February 22, 2017 by pual Akimoto Masato 1 Quote

pual Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 So I ended up with this build: AMD Ryzen 1700 Asus Prime B350+ Asus R9 285 Kingston HyperX 2x8GB I don't have nitpicks about the ryzen performance itself, but sudden restarts do happen 1-3 times per month (sometimes shows MCE on reboot, other times not). At least my ryzen doesn't suffer from segfault problem. Compared to spring 2017 these bugs are less frequent but still happens, I've yet to update motherboard to agesa 1.0.0.6b which should further workaround the (hardware?) bugs. Quote
Okarin Posted October 19, 2017 Posted October 19, 2017 Mine's cheap. I guess I'm never buying an APU again. But works like a charm to play VNs and some low-end games, and no issues worth of mention: CPU - AMD A10 Quad Core 7850K "Kaveri" (released 2014) Motherboard - MSI shit for that socket, not half bad, supposedly. RAM - 8GB Crucial Ballistix 1600 MHz (I guess) GPU - Integrated Radeon R7 (I guess it's a 250, like 1 GB of VRAM) HDD - 1TB Western Digital Caviar Screen - Asus 1080p Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 (edited) A "VR ready" vanity rig I've inherited from my brother (as he got married and moved out without taking most of his stuff): * Intel Core i7-5930k, 6 cores, 3,5GHz * 16GB DDR3-2133 RAM * Geforce GTX 970 4GB * 128 GB SSD + 2 GB HDD * Windows 10 Home Runs all my VNs at consistent 60 FPS (although it's hard to click fast enough to test that correctly).
